914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Engine won't start??

Posted by: Steve May 28 2004, 07:27 PM

My car died at lunch today.
The only thing that happened was the volt meter went to zero when I tried to engage the starter.
When I turned the key back the voltmeter would go back to 12V.
I didn't hear a click and the starter would not turn over.
Has this happened to anyone before?
Could it be the starter solenoid?
I tried to start it multiple times and I got the same symptom.
For the hell of it I disconnected the battery using the quick disconnect knob and reconnected it.
The motor started right up.
I have a 3.2 in my car with stock dme with no alarm or anything else that would disconnect the starter.

Any ideas??
Thanks in advance for your help.

It does sound like the starter was not getting enough juice.
I will take the disconnect apart tomorrow and look for corrosion, pits etc...
I hope its that simple and cheap.
Since I put this 3.2 in my car 4 years ago this is the first time that I had anything go wrong.
Its been a priceless daily driver.

thanks,

Steve

Do all your grounds, both battery posts , where the ground bolts to the body, ground strap (on top of the trans to the trunk floor) and the quick disconnect.

I've seen dirty grounds do some freaky shite.

I had one of those brass quick disconnects with the green knob.....

Same deal, no start, clean it..they corrode between the two pieces of brass just enough to do what you said.

should be a yearly cleaning event.
