Hi all,

I would like to have advice on the best way to proceed in removing the torsion bars that let the rear trunk open. I will install shocks ...

thanx

If you are not concerned about saving the bars or ever reinstalling them...

then lay a thick rag onto the body where the bar ends are going to land when the tension is released.. (they will make a small dent in the metal, so if that bothers you..maybe put some cardboard or styrofoam or something to cushion the blow)....

then take a cut off wheel and cut the bar in the center to releave the tension... the end will flop over onto your rag, and then you can just remove them with no tension...

If you want to save them and not cut them, people use the box side of a wrench or make a tool to hold the end and gently unwind it after removing the hold down....

there is a ton of tension at work here...
be careful.....
they could cut a finger off if they suddenly came loose with your hand in there....
