Did the 914 ever come stock with the houndstooth interior?

If so, please post some pics and I am nore interested in door panels, dash treatment etc.

I've got the Catalogs on my Home Computer that says Yes - not sure if it was just Seats or more

There were 11 916 that came with houndstooth complete interiors.

That is Totally Incorrect.

2 916s came with Paisley Interiors, I think the rest came with Leather.

MY'71 had houndsteeth as an option, IIRC

Posted by: r_towle Jun 24 2011, 11:17 AM

what did the door panels look like?
Dash?

I saw a set of seats at Hershey one year...and then again T.C. posted a set on here.
I really like that dark tan/houndstooth combo....
Its very vintage and fitting.

The Houndstooth Seats that I have shown here before are my Factory Recaros that are going in my GT

Posted by: r_towle Jun 24 2011, 11:40 AM

I know....but I can make them look like that from stock seats..
Post that pic again please.....

IIRC the Houndstooth in the USA was only available in 75-76 MYs AFAIK, and the bottom pic in TC's last post is a member here who had his reupholstered to original IIRC (hopefully he'll chime in).

Another of it showing a big bumper 75 or 76 ....

Same as TC's for reference ....

The Houndstooth, Plaid & Corduroy for all MYs was only for seat inserts, the door panels being either basketweave or smooth textured (71 & ??), and the dashes all the same vinyl covered (except the 2 914-8's & all 916s with leather).

You can see all the interior choices by MY at Jeff Bowlsby's website here -

Very cool look is all I have to say. I wish my Koenig seats were houndstooth instead of sueded fabric.

I have houndstooth. Not original, but I like it! Here's a crappy picture of it...

I've had my '71 (built 9/70) since new and it came with houndstooth seats. No recent pix, but you can see the driver's side seat in this picture.

So I know they were available then, just not very common.Attached Image

Not sure how well this pattern matches the factory stuff.

I have a 73 with factory houndstooth. Pretty sure it came that way.
Also just sold a set of houndstooth we did up for the fixed seat set up today.

Will be doing up a few more sets, can easily do more if you want some.

I might need a set. smile.gif

Just brought in enough to do up a few sets of these. If anyone is interested they'll be the same price as the vinyl in black and white. Brought in red and yellow. If you let me know while were in production cost will be the same.

My impression is that alternate interior choices were far more likely in Europe than in the US.
Over there, people often ordered their cars.
When ordering an allotment of cars here, a sales manager is not likely
to take chances......
Guards red is the perfect example.

That orange is awesome!!! Hmmmm That makes me think about some stuff...

Posted by: Mikey914 Feb 14 2018, 06:36 PM

Do you want me to do up some orange for ya?

Posted by: type2man Feb 14 2018, 07:00 PM

Here's a shot of my 74's interior. It's not real houndstooth but it looks the part. I think the material was used in 1970's Camaros. Nonetheless it looks good enough...

The guy who did my interior is willing to do it on other 914's. The carpet is brown cut loop and was $600 and the seat with material included was $800... He does excellent work

Posted by: Mike Fitton Feb 14 2018, 07:58 PM

$800 for just the seat inserts?

Yes, with orange vinyl/leather smile.gif

This interior really looks sharp.
And the "Camaro" houndstooth is the cat's meow.
Nice!

this might be one of my favorite interiors ever! I really like the brown vinyl backpad and seat trim and the color of the hounds tooth inserts blends perfectly with the carpet- If I had had this choice when redoing the interior of my car I would have gone that direction- I went black and charcoal rather than the original tan as there was not a good tan at the time, your guy did a great job for sure!

$800 for both entire seats reupholstered with new material.

Nah, Ill just grab a couple yards if I go that route, unless your going to grab a roll of it then next time I grab an order Ill get a yard from you. The orange gives me some interior design options I hadnt thought about. But Ive got to make the design classic modern, so I need to sketch it out.

Looking in the background of my "photographic memory" laugh.gif I might have access to orange GM print houndstooth. In the pic was yellow and red, and I recall more rolls getting dusty. My cost $22/yd + driving and I can buy in 1/4 yards if desired.
