914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Another idea for the rear suspension

Posted by: bam914 Jul 5 2011, 07:56 PM

I have finally finished all of my side work and can get back on the transformation of the ITB 914 to EP. I started the rear suspension over a year ago and I am finally finishing it up. It is a little different then what others have done.

Interesting.

Do you think the heim joint can swing far enough to not limit the travel?
I assume you have tested this and I have no idea, just makes me wonder why you put it horizontal instead of vertical?

But, I would never attempt what you are doing.

It has 10" of travel measured at the hub, which is way more movement then I need. I mounted them that way to make it easier to just the roll center. I can move the heims up or down together or move one up and the other down. The box on the end allows me to adjust camber and toe without effecting the rollcenter. Here are the reducers I used for the rod ends.

What's suppose to be the difference with this set up?

Wouldn't those tubes be in the road of the engine?

Full adjustment of the rear roll center and camber adjustment without effecting it. Some have cut the trailing arm in half and twisted the arm to help lower the roll center. In my setup you don't have to do that.

I mocked it up with the engine in the car.

makes sense and now that you explain it...cool.

That is very cool Blake.

You should be able to get really good rear suspension setup even with it radically lowered. That should keep the toe in from changing under breaking and acceleration as well.

did you end up raising the pivot point when you made this setup?

Yes I did raise it up.
