Date fixed. Sorry for any confusion.

Posted by: hot_shoe914 Aug 6 2011, 10:48 AM

Thanks admins for highlighting this for me.

Okay folks, if you think you might be planning to attend this year please post here so I can get a general idea of how many to plan for. I know it is short notice but that was beyond my control and I am going to do the best I can with the time I have. Things are in the works and coming together nicely so far. Registration page should be completed soon as will the T-shirt design. There will be many awesome roads to drive and those should be posted once we finalize the schedule. Come join the fun!

Are you going to have your car back together for this one?

I think the admins should make these event threads a "sticky" at the top of the fourm.

Unfortunately our car is still not completely finished with the body work and paint. I need to start a thread to show the progress but it is still on the rotisserie. The paint has been stripped, metal work, engine bay, five lug conversion, new sway bars and rear fender roll almost complete. We are very close to primer but this seems to be the slowest restoration or build thread ever.

I just like hanging out with you guys.

Unfortunately probably not able to come this year but will order a tshirt. Blew a valve out the motor on over reving (per the experts) and not financially able to build a good motor right now, and no time to do it my self until fall. I'm working double shifts probably all the rest of this year. wacko.gif

Looking for a running 1.8 or 2.0 drivable motor cheap right now that can transplant to drive, while gathering the parts for a real rebuild later on. I don't want to spend over $1000 turnkey right now - motor, shipping, install parts, etc -, so it's find a motor time.

If something come along, it's possible I can be there.

I'd loan you one to drive again but may not have one myself if I can't get the motor fixed and back into Christine again.

Bandjoey, I have a 1.8L available for you for $1,000.00 if you come to Birmingham and pull it. The 2.0L is in Rainbow City, AL and some assembly is required but we might be able to make it work for Christine.

Augh, I love Eureka. Don't think there's any way on God's Green Earth I could have Lou ready by October tho. sad.gif Would anyone care if I showed up in the wife's '72 convertible bug? (Obviously I wouldn't be taking part in the 'spirited driving' portion of the program.) Or maybe just bring the wagon and be the 'support vehicle'...

Posted by: rnellums Aug 8 2011, 10:01 AM

I would love to come if I can get the car together and the time off work.

I know there are a lot of teeners in the Oklahoma area. This is a great opportunity to meet a lot of your fellow addicts and enjoy some good roads. I hope you all can make it out, with or without a teener.

Okay people, I know you all are busy and have a million things to do but could really be helpful if you would throw your name on here if you even THINK you might be coming. I need to try and get an estimated head count so I know how many rooms and how much food to plan for. Thanks and hope to see you all there.

Well, I could use a date, or barring that, a range of dates. That'll go a long way toward telling if I have a snowball's chance or no. wink.gif

Sorry man, I will have just returned from RRC. I made WCR this year. That's about 10,000 miles in a 914 in about two weeks time over the course of two events. $ 4.00 a gallon (91 octane), and about 18 mpg if I'm lucky... That's over $ 2,500.00 in fuel alone. I just can't pull off another huge road trip this year. confused24.gif You will just have to post lots of photos for us guys.

Posted by: hot_shoe914 Aug 16 2011, 10:29 PM

Okay folks, the planning commitee is working very hard towards the goal of having registration open this Friday. Has been a little tougher getting things ready on such short notice but there is an awesome group of people doing their best to ensure all attendees have a great time. Make your plans now to attend MUSR 12 this October 13, 14, 15 and 16. The roads and scenery will be unforgetable and the friends you will meet and make will last a life time. DON'T MISS OUT!

Please continue to post here if you even think you might attend so we can get some idea of how many to plan for.

Thanks,
Shoe

And have her miss two days of school? I think I'd be shot for even suggesting that.

School is overrated sometimes anyway. She is probably already smarter than the teacher. Bring her over after school Friday.

I have skiied behind a pontoon but pulled it all over everywhere. Doubt barefooting would be doable. I hope to have my heads back next week and then will hopefully get the motor back together. Mary has bead blasted and painted all my engine tin and it should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. Going to be tight but still hopeful.

What is that for??? Will there be a swap meet too???

That is for whom ever makes the biggest screw up during the event. Like planning the routes and leading the drive and getting everybody lost.

For those of you wanting shirts I need your order in no later than October 3rd. Long sleeve are also available for $2.00 extra and I might even be able to get hoodies. I will have to check on a price for those.

Also, rooms are only being held for 2 more days. After that they will be released to be available to the general public. This is a very busy weekend and rooms will disappear quickly. You can still get the price for MUSR attendees if they have a room available.

With all that being said, let's get those registrations in and have some fun!

Bama 914 here. You folks suck. I am soooooo mad I can not make it. I even asked my daughter if we could change her wedding date! I will not tell you what her answer was. By the way - my 914 won 2nd place in the Barbers Motor Sports Concourse at the vintage show this past summer. Her and me have come a long way and I will miss the brother/siterhood of this event. I WANT A SHIRT! Can I get just a shirt? Best of best to all you for keeping on a tradition of a fine auto. I WILL be there next year.

I wonder if the trees will cooperate and turn for us this year. I just hooked up my heater circuit so I have a defrost "function" now that the nights are cooler! Now I know what some of you (that have no heat exchangers) are thinking... What's the matter with the towel in the passenger seat?

Answer: 5-point harness. Can't reach the windshield. Trying gives me a tongue cramp, and no. I won't tie it onto the end of a stick. That's just something else to build brackets for. smash.gif

Just a knock to the top for October 3rd.

icon_bump.gif

Speaking of "knock" - my car seems to have developed a knock this weekend.

This could be an interesting 5 hour drive to MUSR.........

You still have time to fix it. Christine still isn't road worthy either.

I just spent all day Saturday replacing fuel lines only to find I had a leaky master cylinder. Swaped with a slightly used 19mm and went for a 6 hour drive. Now to fix that fluctuating idle issue...

I've noticed that each time Ken lights up a Camel, the camera goes foggy. A sign from the beyond? smoke.gif

If we bring our own radio, what walkie talkie let's talk channel (s) do we need on the radio ? Are they universal?

Most are universal. I have Cobras and motorola. I am glad you mentioned this Bill. If anyone wants to bring radios, walkie talkies, if makes it easier to keep everyone informed and nobody gets lost when they get hung at a redlight, even though I didn't see any redlights out there.

Breaker 1 4..

I'm guessing it'll be like last year, 2-way radios may or may not be useful due to line of sight and such, but if you got 'em, bring 'em. FRS/GMRS 2-way radios made by Motorola, Cobra, Midland, etc.

Probably the main advantage of having one is gaining the ability to hear Ken swearing and cursing upon breakdowns and/or getting lost.. poke.gif

It seems one of the sponsors 'donated' something to the MUSR event and then charged the organizer for the shipping. I just think that's wrong. dry.gif So, I sent an extra mug to be either given away at the event or given to the organizer who got ripped off by the sponsor. Have a great time you guys and thanks for all your hard work organizing this! biggrin.gif

Pulled the package, replaced the seal and the o-ring, put it back in, warmed it up headbang.gif headbang.gif Damed oil leak is still there. Ordered a new flywheel. MUSR 12 gets a special hardware kit assembled. biggrin.gif

You get:
1969-1972 door hardware + door hinge bolts + new unmolested chrome window cranks drooley.gif + buffers

I will have about 4-5 kits in Replica and 4-5 in Stainless kits of this combo.
You lucky dogs. shades.gif
It will be around $150 per kit

About half of all the door hardware from Porsche is NLA and the cranks are NLA. I'll take cash, cash, and cash ...and definitely not your kids. laugh.gif

I will also have that kit plain jane with just the hardware in Replica and Stainless. About 5-6 kits each.
Late 73-76 will come in one flavor only with the option of Replica or Stainless topping.
Engine Dress Kits will be in Replica and Stainless.
Lock kits in Replica and Stainless around 5-10 kits each. (not a high priority in assembling)

Posted by: Kansas 914 Oct 9 2011, 06:32 PM

My route to MUSR - in case anyone is on the same path - but it is unlikely...

Thursday
9:00AM - Depart Andover, Kansas - backroad driving all the way
Noon - Arrive Miami, OK - lunch with some friends
1:30PM - Depart Miami, OK
3:30PM (or so) - Arrive Eureka Springs

Posted by: BigDBass Oct 10 2011, 09:16 AM

Rough plan for couple of us:

Ross (heading from Lafayette IN) and I (heading from Chicago) are leaving Wed evening, meeting around Springfield, then layover just past St.Louis in Eureka Missouri. Finishing up Thursday AM to Eureka Springs.

Anyone else heading through St. Louis area?

ring offset and pinion depth is all that's left! Then madly install and shakedown on the way to the MUSR! Ok, two 911's in between. One's easy, one's not. Life is good!

Anyone have any parts that they need that I could bring with me to MUSR? (they have to fit inside one of the trunks...)

I need the rubber side cover for the rear of my transmission and a shift rod that doesn't have the cone screw hole stripped out.

What rubber cover do you need? The one that covers the shift console?

The one that goes on the side of the tranny that covers where the shift rod attaches.

Posted by: jt914-6 Oct 10 2011, 04:16 PM

ALL the covers I've seen are PLASTIC..... poke.gif shades.gif

Posted by: rnellums Oct 10 2011, 04:37 PM

I have a plastic one, but it has been cut such that removal of the shift rod is not necessary for installation. It worked fine though.

Pm sent. I included the name of the guy there I spoke to about shipping. He asked that his name be included so he can sign for items and keep them sorted for us.
Will it be one box? I'd like to give him a heads up on package count total.

I pulled the bumper, opened the trunk, took the latching mechanism off and cleaned/lubed it, put it all back together and back in business.
Of course, now it is raining so guess I'll wait til tomorrow to fill up.

If I read right, we have 28 humans and 16 cars signed up. Woo Hoo.

Not the largest MUSR I've attended, but not the smallest either.

I too have room for some parts if needed.
I will also be traveling with jack, stands, tools, a few extra parts, and my box of gaskets.

My barn find LE ran good for nearly 1000 miles and then threw a rod or something. Yeah, was making some noise so there was warning.
Current engine is "history unknown" but it seems to run strong. Has an exhaust leak that I cannot get rid of and the muffler is kinda crappy. Crossing my fingers in hopes it makes the MUSR trip. rolleyes.gif

Already used that one up earlier this year during my roadtrip to IN from Denver. Broke down just outside of badlands in SD, towed it just to Mitchell.

Steve- Unfortunately for you I sent my engine and associated hardware to BandJoey earlier this summer in hopes that he might be able to make MUSR. I'm afraid you are out of luck on the tin as far as I am concerned.

Raining right now in Dallas. I still need to get the 914 off the trailer and adjust the valves. Ran like crap at the autocross last weekend. Slight backfire at idle, rough idle and lacked normal power. Also Robyn is running a 105.1 temperature right now. She does want me to take her to the the doctor so I'm giving her asprin and taking her temp every hour, hope it isn't the flu. Things are iffy but I'm pushing ahead to get everything ready for the trip tomorrow.

If Robyn is an adult, you need to get her to a clinic or an ER right away. Children can run fevers that high but it is still dangerous. Seizures are common at that high a temperature.

Posted by: Thoward914 Oct 12 2011, 11:42 AM

I got Robyn to take some acetaminophen earlier and currently her fever is down to 101.2. No chill at the moment and she went back to bed and is asleep. Will check her temperature in another hour. Rain has stop here in Dallas. Head out back to adjust the 914's valves.

And it was really nice to meet everyone else that I knew from the board but had never seen in person. Thanks Biker Bob and Mike (Country Mountain Inn) for putting up with us for three nights. Mike turned out alright once WE all quit throwing cigerette butts down in the parking lot...LOL

Steve was leaving Memphis this AM for home. Donald drove from Little Rock to Memphis running 102 fever. I'm doubting he will remember much of that stretch of I40.

Hope everyone makes/made it home safe and without incident. Enough of those at the event?

And a special shout out to Brad for being the resident mechanic and making sure every teener stayed of the road too!!

Thanks to all who attended. It was great meeting everyone. This was our first Ramble but Ann agrees with me it won't be our last. Sorry we were unable to spend more time with the group. The next Ramble we won't be working. Looking foward to MUSR 13.

A special thanks to a couple of members. First Don for stepping up and making MUSR 12 happen. Don did an outstanding job under difficult circumstances and is to be commended.

In addition to Brad helping Don get Christy up and going. He also helped me sort out my shift linkage. I was missing one of the knuckle bushings and the other was almost gone. A condition that would have probably left me stranded on the Friday run. Thanks again Brad.

Last but not least Curt Curtis who spent part of his Thursday nigt helping me replace the knuckle bushings.

The best to everyoun and keep driving thoes 914's.

Yep - however the cooler/wetter weather is moving in today - so we timed it perfectly!

Anyone lose a car key? Does not look like a 914 key. I found it in the mailbox this morning. Could it be yours if so I'll send it along ASAP.

I made it home a couple hours ago. Took a nap for a bit smile.gif

Googlemapped it and the distance for me was around 700+ miles each way blink.gif
Would I do it again? Absolutely! cheer.gif
Even though I live in the Smokies where there are TONS of awesome roads, the best part of MUSR was driving with other teeners.

Glad everyone had a great time. Fever is down from the upside of 103 to the 101 range. Feel like crap and going back to bed. Oh yeah, did finally eat for the first time since lunch yesterday. Thanks Steve for playing nurse maid last night and a BIG thanks to Ken and Steve for making sure I arrived home safely. Don't really remember much but woke up in my bed this morning. MUSR12 was a huge success!

Thanks to all! Paula and I had a great weekend and a great drive home, we didn't put the top on until Springfield IL. Gene and Cheri (SILVR914) drove with us for a trouble free trip.

Special thanks to Donald, Dan and all that helped arrange this event. You would not realize how much effort is required to put on an event like this unless you did it yourself! Fun, friends and 914's was the theme and it was a total success!

Looking forward to MUSR 13, count on me for support. Brad

Donna and I enjoyed seeing everyone this year and look forward to driving our car next year. We hope to have another Birmingham 914 with us next year with Jimmy Grantham driving. Jimmy just finished restoring his original 914-6 pictured below.

Acetone, simple green and many scrub brush episodes and it's not completely gone.
Gene was right... it's permanent.

Of course, this MUSR was worth it!!!!!! beerchug.gif

I believe everyone is accounted for except the TX crew....Robyn, Travis and A. I know they don't frequent the board a lot though...

I hope they made it - Avery's drive was going to be an interesting one with his clutch cable issue.

Great pictures. I did paypal I think it was $22 for a long sleeve shirt to be mailed. If it was too late, you can reverse the payment, send a check, or cash in a padded envelope along with world series tickets

Thanks Bill

Thanks to Donald, Bob, Ken, Steve, Ron, Dan, Travis, Robin and everyone who worked so hard to make this MUSR a success and such a fun event for everyone including spouses. Donna really enjoyed the location with all there was to do in the Eureka area.

Video I put together of the MUSR12 Friday drive: sweepers, long stretches, elevation changes and twisties. Highlights of the 200+ mile drive on the roads around Eureka Springs with a group of 914s. About 5 minutes long. driving.gif

Thanks for sharing the videos, guys!

I watched one with my daughters. They recognized my car. Then my 5 year old said "Daddy, your green car looks slow." I withheld my tears and said "Yeah, Shoe said I was slow this year too."
