914World.com _ 914World Garage _ rebuilding front end using another front clip

Posted by: dlestep Aug 7 2011, 08:09 PM

Today, I talked with my son, "Evilgenius13" on 914world. He owns a '74 914,
which came with driver's side front end damage.
He has drilled out spot welds and removed the damaged metal. The driver's side
was cutback to the wall in front of the fuel tank and the passenger side most
frontal section. The clip was reduced to an "L" shape, I believe.
He has extensive experience working VW type IIIs and VW Buses, but from
the phone conversation, I think he is having difficulty with the forward and lower
front section and the headlamp box area.
He has finished most of it, but he doesn't like the outcome.

Is there someone in or around the San Diego area that could hook-up and help him get the front section let in ?

He hasn't touched the 914 since wrestling with it a couple of weeks ago.
He really wants to get that completed so he can get his '74 going.
He's too far away for me to be there. I would appreciate any help in this.

He can peruse the link in my sig. It's passenger side damage and not as extensive as his. IMHO headlight buckets are a PITA. I did the passenger side bucket twice before I was happy with it. Still have the drives side bucket to do. The key for me was making a jig to get stuff straight.
