good article, nothing new, really, but a nicely compiled summary that i hope will be interesting and informative to the folks here who are new to the automotive scene and may not be familiar with some of the marketing schemes that date back 50 or 60 years...

i liked this quote, from an "infomercial" I have seen several times: "The ads show
... a testimonial from a woman who
supposedly drove from Santa Barbara to L.A., almost 5 hours,
with no engine oil."

Santa Barbara is but 96 mi from LA - you do the math on her average speed on that coastal (cool) run...
