If the accumulator has to dump its load to maintain pressure, where does that extra 2 or 3 quarts of oil go in the system?
Does it get puked out of the breathers if there is too much? I'm sure its better than losing oil pressure but it wouldn't be good to oil down the track either.
My breather tank is only 1 qt.
thanks,
dr
It gets recovered when the oil pressure gets up to par.....
BTW....I have one that never got used on Frankensteen....kind of useless now that it has a dry sumped sixer.
Anyone interested?
At high revs, the oil in the sump goes into the heads... If the oil pressure drops to less than what is in the accusump, the accusump dumps and keeps the pressure up until the sump picks up oil again and rechearges the system and the accusump....
The oil doesn't all leave the Accusump canister. As soon as the pressure in the system is as high as the pressure in the Accusump, it all equalizes and no more oil leaves the Accusump. If the pressure falls because you've starved the oil pump from a high G-loads, not much oil will be required to bring up the pressure again. If the pressure falls because the oil pump has stopped, then you'll get an enginefull of oil, but still with no pressure. You'll just get a few more seconds warning to shut off. If the pressure has fallen because there's a new hole for the oil to leave the engine, it will happily leave the Accusump, too.
