914World.com _ 914World Garage _ distributor driveshaft pictures

Posted by: dimmer Jul 7 2004, 09:10 AM

A few months ago someone posted pictures of the distributor driveshaft. Does anyone remember them.
15 years ago I rebuilt my motor and ever since that posting I could not remember if I ever replaced the washer that goes on the ledge. This weekend i pulled the distributor shaft and no washer.
Does anyone know if it needed on all cars? I read in the Haynes that some cars had them.
Mine is a stock 74 1.8
thanks

Here's a picture of the dizzy shaft in a case I'm working on. I think it's there to protect the thrust surface of the case. I would think it's a good thing to have. There are 3 little depressions machined into the washer for oiling I suspect.

Yes, it is a requirement... You are lucky that the dizzy stayed fully engaged and did not slip its drive!

I have seen cases chewed up terribly from not running them.
