914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Need 911 Front Torsion Bars

Where can I get a decent price and not wait 3 weeks for them?

Try your luck with a want ad. Or you could call GPR...

Are you racing this car?

Posted by: markb Aug 28 2011, 10:13 PM

Have you called us to see what we have on the shelf?

Rich Bontempi at High Performance House (Redwood City, CA) may have some as well.

22mm front T-bars are mighty stiff for a 914...unless you're going racing.

Yup. It'll see some street time but I'm building a road race car with minimal to no street comforts.

I have 225# rear springs and will be in the market for a 23mm bar when funds allow.

Nope. I will today.

For a data point:
My 21mm T-bars were balanced by 275 lb rear springs, 22mm (effective) AR bar set half hard. No concessions to streetability.

Mine's a track car in the same ilk.

Front
23mm torsion bars
22mm Tarrett bar
Bilstein sport inserts in Bilstein struts

Rear
200# springs
yellow adj Koni's
no AR bar

Elephant poly-bronze in the back and about to be in the front when I get a day free to install them.

Now that I built the last tranaxle with a clutch-type LSD I'll have to add a rear AR bar or "up" the rear springs to fight a wee bit of understeer.

I don't care if it's a bit stiff... so am I. I use it almost daily as well and damn the tire wear. We have a lot of real twisties in Arkansas. beerchug.gif

AX. My front end weighed in at about 700 lbs, about 1000 in back.

I've driven a 914 track race car on an AX course. He could get away with stiff suspenders on a billard smooth track but was undriveable at speed out in the parking lot.
IIRC his rear springs were in the 600 lb range on a 1900 lb car.

I have a set of torsion bars that I got from an 82 sc but I couldn't find any markings to indicate what they are!

If you know how to tell what they are I will take a closer look for you!

$40 plus shipping.

They'll most likely be 18.8mm. Just measure the outside diameter (not at the splines). I have a set of them I got with the 911 front end.

I emailed GPR. None on the shelf. They'll let me know tomorrow if their supplier has them.

I will check them tomorrow and let you know the outside mesurment!

Sorry, mine are 19mm! sad.gif

I have set of 23 mm torsion bars 911 .

Posted by: jcd914 Aug 30 2011, 06:51 PM

I know some here warn about too stiff but not all of us.

Set mine up 20 yrs ago and I loved it.
911 T frt struts & brakes
Polygraphite suspension bushings fr & rr (hard ones)
22mm front T-bars (914)
180 lb rear springs (cut and shortened)
19mm front anti roll bar (heim jointed drop links)
Koni yellow sport gas shocks frt & rr.

Daily driver, auto-x and occasional road trip.
Very balanced car.
Was always near the top of my auto-x class (not saying much since it was a 1.7L)
