Here is another historic pic, after I bought it from Dan with a blown engine 2.2-6 and converted it back to a 1.8-4, and selling it to my friend Mike who converted it back to a Six as $$ became available.

Great pictures, I love the cookie cutters...I REALLY wish someone made some that had the look, but muffled, like a cookie cutter exhaust tips for an M&K or something.
I had to do a double take seeing 914-6ST in the heading, I thought it was a new build in the style of the 911 ST.

This is the coolest thread EVER!
Thanks for posting all the great pictures T.C. It's really brining back some memories.
I originally bought this car in 1997 or 1998? As a stock FI 2.0. and over the next few years:
Painted it.
5 Lugged it.
2.2 MFI sixed it.
Sold it to Micheal M. to save it from a divorce.
Bought it back from Micheal M. a year later
Flared it (Painted again).
Gernaded the engine.
Jeff bought it, put 4cyl back in, sold it.
Mike R. converted back to a 2.5 six
I bought it back from Mike
Gave engine back to Jeff with Solex cams, JE P/C's and other engine upgrades made.
Added flag mirrors and 87' 911 front "stuff" tossed the old 911T "stuff"
Steel roof with sunroof added
Sold to T.C.
T.C. sold to Utah guy?
Utah guy sold to Costas in NV
T.C. bought it back!
So T.C. has bought this car twice and I've bought it three times. It's that friggen cool of a 914.

This is an interesting concept,as I have been toying with the idea of converting my six into a steel roof car.I like the idea of an enclosed /6,ala 916, and would love to see how the factory built them.
Do any of the faithful out there have pictures or specs on the factory process?

The ST is kicking my Ass right now as the Fucher won't start - the Starter will not engage.
Battery is Fine, The Fuel Pump is working, I cleaned all the connectors going to the Starter, there is a Hot Start Relay that I disconnected, etc. I guess I have to change out the Starter
I am going to put a different Engine, Carbs, Tranny in, a few weeks so I may just let her sit

Since I plan on keeping this car long-term, eventually I will put Steel Flares on it. Right now the paint is burned off the roof ( from when Dan did the Steel-Top), but is OK on the rest of the car. So I will be painting the Top & Sail Panels a Satin Black

Dang Rain has prevented me from getting a car into the driveway ( I can work on 1 inside & 1 outside, but not either when both are inside.
I put one Sparco on the kitchen floor & sat in it - Very Nice ! I'm 6', 190.
It would be tight on someone that has a 38" Belt & Bigger
Posted by: campbellcj Sep 26 2011, 06:16 PM
LOL...I observed that my race seat as well as my driving suit are quite a bit comfier since I lost 25lbs.
Our cars are a challenge for the larger folks - I had an instructor almost get stuck in my car a few months ago trying to maneuver into the seat with his HANS and helmet on. He was about 6'6" and 250+. It was pretty comical but he finally got "on" the seat.

Posted by: AZ914 Sep 27 2011, 09:44 PM
Nice TC! The Recaros look like what I need. I've got really long legs and it seems that the aftermarket seats have too much of a rake to them so they sit too far forward (like the picture of your Sparcos). I sat in some GTS Nurburgrings and had my knee jambed between the stick and steering wheel.

Until you absolutely Need To, keep them OEM.
When I got mine, they had come of the Strenger GT and had been done in what I can call Airline Seat Material

What finish did you choose?
How much for the set?
How long is the real lead time now?
I am on the fence with those wheels...the lead time keeps stopping me from pulling the trigger...seems he makes a run, sells them, then collects money for the next run...so I need to time when I buy.
I recell they are cheaper than getting a set redone...
Also not sure if I should go for the RSR finish or the Polished finish...
Can I just hose off the RSR finish?
I am not a fan of polishing wheels every few months....rather just spray them with a cleaner and hose them off...

I bought the RSR "Frosted" Finish And I only bought the Rears (17x9), as I wanted to check the quality and I can get a little rake to the car running 17"s in the rear & 16"s in the Front. I can always buy the Front Rotas
They charged me $643 for the Pair shipped
He told me that I would be in the group of the wheels that came in a couple of weeks ago, but I must have missed the cut-off. He only charged me $100 Deposit to get in on the next batch due in in about 3 weeks. So $100 gets you in for the next run.
I used to like Polished Wheels, but they are a Pain. The Frosted RSR finish to me looks just "Right"

Are the Rota wheels considered track-worthy? They sure sound more economical than other options. I may be going to 17's and with other options >$3K/set (without rubber), two or three sets would be a huge outlay.

Well, I took the Carpet & DynaMat off the Back Wall as the Glue was letting go on the carpet - Use Contact Cement not Spray Adhesive.
The Rubber Pad & Dynamat must have weighed 50-60 lbs
I then put a few strips of DynaMat back on and Contact Cement'd the Perlon Carpet back up
Then I started taking out the Original Shifter

Can you comment on the location of your fuel gauge? Is this a location used on any of the GT cars? Did you install it in this location? If so, is it difficult to cut that hole in the dash? Need to find a place for my fuel gauge as I'm not using a center console.

They take the Factory Center Caps - I'm gonna run them Naked
Posted by: Vysoc Dec 10 2011, 05:36 PM
TC,
So you will be running 7 x 16" up front and 9 x 17" in the rear?
Is this a standard practice to run different sizes front to back? (I know the width is different, 16" to 17"). I did look at some other applications today, the new Mustangs actually offer the same scenario in a 2012 car.
Is there any downside, safety or stability wise, as the price of the Rotas is extremely attractive and being able to put a 255 in the rear wheel well will certainly fill the space provided by the flares.
Love my new seats!!!
Vysoc
Posted by: carr914 Dec 10 2011, 06:27 PM
Pete, Glad you like the seats, I knew you would - it was a hell of a deal
The Rotas for the Front would have been 17x7.5 - I really wanted to see how nice they were. That said, I will be going with 16x7s in the front as I have 3 Sets.
When I had my other Blue Car I ran 16s in the Rear & 15s in the front - I liked the rake
