914World.com _ 914World Garage _ '70 foot rest

Posted by: 914Mels Sep 11 2011, 08:56 PM

So I'm cleaning the garage and find the passenger side foot rest for our '70. It's in great shape but I'm wondering what the strap clips to on the car? There is only one strap. It is unused judging from the wear on the carpet, I know I've never used it in the 33 years we've owned the car. Any pictures? Thanks, Mike

It hooks to a tie that's screwed to the foot well.

strap on foot rest is suppose to have a clip that attaches to a D-ring which I believe is attached on the right side tunnel.

I believe the D-ring is attached to one of the screws that hold the right-side speaker pod on.

Yep Dave is correct. That is how it was with my 70.

This is how it's done. I can take a pic this evening if you'd like.

I've been looking for someone dry.gif to have an extra D-ring lying around for several years now.

It's usually the the first thing to go missing when one takes the right side speaker off for any reason.

Any one have a D-ring they aren't going to use???????

The statement about the D ring and the speaker screw is correct. . it was a woven strap about 1/2 inch wide with a chrome D ring, , , On my 914'6 six, the strap is about an inch long, and is attached at the lower speaker / longitudinal screw. A perfect replacement would be a small dog collar end. . my strap looks to be a dark gray but could have been black when new. .

What does the end that connects to the speaker screw look like? A grommet maybe?

Here's some shots of the connection.

take a look. The 2 pieces become one and you can see the hole to attach to the speaker pod. The metal loop is where you hook the tether too which your footrest should have.

Thanks for the pictures, The original owner put speakers with bigger magnets in, thus the enclosures wouldn't lay flat and gapped out a half inch. I'm sure the strap went in the trash with the speaker screw. I see from the pictures, you have a different strap than mine. My strap is made of the fuzy looking carpet material. Ours has a build date of 1/70. Any idea when this changed?

Thank You for the photos of the D-ring. I hope mine is still there. ( :

Thanks for all the pictures, seeing as the footrest isn't worth as much as a new old stock bumper and I can't retire by selling it, I need to start looking for a D ring. Mike
