any quick way to clean up a dirty tranny so it looks decent attached to a new motor?

I found some jelly stuff at the hardware store that cleans up alu but I am afraid it will degrade the seals, etc. (is the case alu or mag)?

thanks,
dr

It's magnesium. Don't use that aluminum cleaner!

The finish is a magnesium "pickle"- kinda like anodizing aluminum.

Clean that "pickle" off and it will oxidize badly.

I cleaned mine with brake cleaner to remove grease, dirt, etc. Then I sprayed THE EXTERIOR with self etching zinc based primer and a quick shot of silver paint.

Be sure you tape off the point where the ground strap attaches to the tranny case and the inner bellhousing area where it touches the engine.

Dont wanna screw with the engine ground!
