914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 78mm or 74mm crank recommendation

Posted by: Valy Sep 28 2011, 11:43 AM

Can anyone recommend a specific crank for a 78mm or 74mm stroke? I'm looking for users that have actually experienced assembling one or the other.

So far I've see that http://www.scatvw.com/master/type_iv/,http://dprmachine.com/Html%20Files/cranks_type_4a.htm have a nice offerings (I think Jake resells the later one).

Also I would, what should I expect in terms of clearance with the case and camshaft? Should I get a reduced cycle camshaft?

Thanks

I've used a couple of DPR 78mm cranks. Cracked one. Quality is pretty good, but you still need to have the balance checked and measure everything. It's not easy to get one that is perfect.

I've used a reduced base circle cam. Most of the clearancing is on the case and rods.

Thanks Matt!

I can't believe this is the only opinion I can get on this forum. Nobody else built a stroked engine over here by himself? confused24.gif

Come on, spread some wisdom in here!
