Why not buy one of the seals that two 914club members are selling? Just curious.

Posted by: Aaron Cox Jul 30 2004, 06:41 PM

hmmmm...
maybe because no-one knows theyre for sale (not listed in the resources section) and dont know who is selling them bootyshake.gif

Big whoopity-doo - who cares about that seal. There's lots of reproductions out there. I think both Camp914 and Sam Gore sell them. Lots on ebay too.

I thought they had finally come up with a good quality repo front targa seal. That would be news.

What's this with the squeek. Mine dosn't do it. Is it a common problem? Mine does look like crap though> blink.gif

No matter how good they make them, they'll never match a Sammy Seal. smilie_pokal.gif

My Sammy seal worked great and was only $40 if I recall correctly.

I also didn't have to wonder if AA would ever ship it.

I got free parts from AutoAtlanta the other day. Instead of leaving stuff off the order, there was a set of 911 front pads and a rear caliper rebuild kit in the box. To be honest, I emailed, but they never requested the parts back. I do think they have a problem when you order from someone other than George, or they have a packing problem.

Which front seal?

I bought from Sam, good seal still squeaks. It's because all the other fastener stuff on the top is worn

I just installed a new OEM seal yesterday (bought a car a while back that had ALL oem seals in never-opened bags in the trunk). The original seal has flocking (spray-on felt like inside a glove box) on the seal to stop the sqeaks.

If I did not have that new seal already, I would have definitely gone with a sammy or kerry? seal.

The top can also squeak on the rubber blocks that are part of the rear latch.

Try rubbing glycerin (from the drugstore) on the seals to lubricate and stop the squeak.

I just sent Sammy an e-mail. If he still has them for $40, I am all over that! boldblue.gif

Posted by: skline Jul 31 2004, 08:20 AM

I bought two of them from Sammy, one for my yellow car and one for my Chalon. I have not installed the one on the chalon yet but the one on the yellow car was great.

And for the east coasters, Kerrys914 (Kerry Herr in PA) sells them too. That's who I bought mine from.

AA was the only vendor I was able to get .25 bearings from...Mahle no less. Not cheap but they hooked me up in 3 days..

I've done a few Sammy seals and been happy with them.

The squeeks are from the rear targa latches. Dry rubber, eek eek.

You can make your own seal!

As I have been restoring my car, one of the issues has been getting good trim so I have started noticing certain things. The rubber sits on top of the trim. The trim has a coating (I believe bright dip anodize). Many of the trim pieces I have looked at have the coating rubbed clear through even with a factory "fuzz coated" gasket that slides much easier. Something to consider. I opted for an OEM seal with the soft coating to protect the nice trim I found. It's really not just a squeek issue but a friction issue as well....If that's not a concern, go with the cheaper versions and save some $$....

Thomas ordering directly from George himself makes NO difference. I have had G. screw up orders twice. I'll get one from Sammy or wait until GPR carries it

AA - Never forget....Never again
