The New Jersey Bumblebee that was on Ebay is now in my driveway. My wife and I made a seven hour round trip last Saturday to look at this car. I was unable get the seller to end the auction early but ultimately the two bidders backed out and the auction was ended early to avoid selling the car for the opening bid. We came to an agreement later that night and I went down to Jersey today with a friend and drove it back.
The auction description was very honest, maybe even too critical. The car has very little rust aside from the battery tray, the original steel rockers have yellow under the black. It starts, runs and drives good once warm. The trunks are near mint. The spare wheel looks new with the original tire on it. The paint (what paint?) really does suck and the gold on the bumpers is awful. Included with the records is a 5 page handwritten summary that goes back to '78 when the car had 22K. It documents all maintance, repairs and periods of storage over the last 26 years and 46K miles.
The plan is to take the car all apart after the ECR for some restoration work over the winter. Not a concours class resto, but good enough that the averagejoe couldn't tell. I expect the radio, tire size and a few mechanicals will get updating but otherwise all original including the factory paint scheme. By next spring it should be back on the road and ready for some New England twisties.
Lets see it and then the progress on it. Its only fair.
Way to go Ed! Sounds like you found a well cared for teener. So what number does that bring the fleet up to?
A very warm welcome to the LE Club. Let us know the various numbers when you get a chance.

Congratulations Ed,
I bought my Bumblebee in May, and it's been a blast working on it. Thanks to this site, there is an answer to any problem that arises. Mine runs great, and it's biggest problem is the paint. That will come in time. I know you will enjoy working on your car. Best of luck.
Cool!
So that's #3 to the 914 stable?
Keep us posted of the resto progress
cheers,
Jeroen
I think Ed's totally addicted now!
