Howard's DA MAN!! I look forward to seeing everyone there and having the best 914 gathering in the world. Maybe this time we will get national news coverage? Someone has to recognize these little cars. I will have mine done for sure and ready for show, shine and drive. Maybe even race a little. If I do race, I will be trailering the car up there. Its still a 30 some year old car and things can break. This is going to great!

We will definitely be there, Who are the people in charge of the event this year? We want to make some donations to the raffle.

Well, I guess I've gotta be there. No excuses this year. I already told Slits I'd buy him a beer, so I pretty much have to be there. Plenty of advanced notice, so I should be able to have enough saved by then. Now, the question is, do I drive or fly? And if I drive, do I dare bring the teener? How many other western Canadians are gonna go? Maybe we could convoy down. Strength on numbers and all.

Posted by: mike_the_man Aug 3 2004, 05:13 PM

Ventura, CA...birthplace of ME smile.gif....what a special place, LOL

time to start planning......only 9 months for me to change my mind on what I am doing to my car, hahahahaha

Posted by: Ctrout Aug 3 2004, 06:02 PM

I don't know if I'll be able to make it because my job has a bad habit of ruining my plans from time to time. In 2001-2002 they sent me out of country for 12 months and I wasn't able to bring the wife and kids. THAT SUCKED! Anyway, if I could make it, maybe we folk from the North could arrange a couple pick-up points to meet and convoy down. I'm very near to Boise, Idaho so that would work or perhaps Eugene, Oregon or Salt Lake City, Utah depending on the route people are taking. I hope my car will be ready for an extended trip by then. Also remember that much of the West has 75mph expressway speed limits so be sure the car is up to sustained high speed driving. Mapquest shows Salt Lake as the best meetin place for me to catch a convoy from Regina, SK.

Posted by: Andyrew Aug 3 2004, 06:19 PM

Looks like a really nice place!!

As long as the cost stays down, then I think we'll be good!

How long I get to be there depends on how much school I can miss biggrin.gif

I will be there with bells on . If I can be of any help Howard Let me know. maybe I can get 914#2 ready by then. Vernura is a nice place and Apirl will have nice weather at the beach. Hwy 150 from Ojai to Carpintera is a blast to drive thru some nice country. Looking forward to the event.

I don't want to get too specific about the various events and venue since this is far in advance and much could be subject to change. But here are some basics that should not.

'Track' event wil be full day 914club rental of 'Streets' course at Willow Springs Monday, 5/2. R&T uses it for their comparison testing, so look at some of their issues for notes and pictures. The track is very technical. Not high speed, but more the kind of situations you would run into in spirited street driving. No timing, no wheel to wheel racing, and passing only in very limited places. Cars started 20 seconds apart. There is only one spot on main straight where you may exceed freeway speeds, and then not by much. Kinda like a fast AutoX w/o the damn orange thingies.

Track day will be Monday, there will be no extra charge for attending, and strongly advise all who can show up. A fun event, not a race.

Bikes: Track rules won't allow bikes and cars on the track at the same time. Because of the tight turns it is not well suited to you cafe racers, but if we get enough people interested (say 10) we can have a separate run group for bikes.

Here's a picture of the track. We will not run the northern loop as it has a high speed banked turn where you can hurt yourself. Visit the Willow Springs site for more info.

Hotel. Cost will be $60 to $90 per night rooms to suites. Will try to have Hotel comp a couple of suites for hospitality rooms that could also be used as no charge crash pads for starving students and such. Bring a sleeping bag.

As stated before, the main venue will be Friday night thru Sunday afternoon. There will be activities for early arrivals Thursdayand Friday, and of course the track on Monday. One entry fee will cover all but extra meals, accomodations and special events Thursday and Friday.

Track tour. Before you all kick my ass on this...

Sorry for the big size. This was the first time out on a track in almost 35 years, and first time trying to make a movie. Suzi was still silver at that time, prior to getting nailed in the parking lot. http://www.thehowardagency.com/willow3.wmv

Posted by: ppickerell Aug 4 2004, 08:03 PM

We (wife and I) should be able to make it. I am reasonably certain that my car will be running by then.......If not I'm bringing the Boxster! I bought a laser marking machine which comes in in October. I am willing to laser etch some kind of plaque out of stainless steel or brushed aluminum for participants as my contribution. Design your logo yet?

Posted by: drew365 Aug 4 2004, 09:16 PM

Nice video Howard, where were all the other cars when you shot it. Now the out of towners can practice at night. A fast car can top 120 on the straight so I'm going to stay out of your way when your on the freeway. biggrin.gif

Wow, I gotta get me a twin plug 6! Can't get Suzi past 80's on the straight, not that I ever try to drive that fast on the FWY wink.gif That was at the Shelby club open track. Not too many cars and they were starting us 30 seconds apart. I'll try to dig up some more.

Andyrew, actually it's a pretty straight line all the way to Modesto from there, so go for it. Will give you skid pad for 20 minute burnout demo, but do bring the trailer if you want to take it home driving.gif

Patrick, that sounds really elegant. Thank you.

Timing is everything.

Last night, I was speaking on the telephone with another 914Club member. Part of our conversation was about the WCC, in particular WCC 2005. My wife overheard my end of the conversation. When I got off the phone she asked, "What about going to California?" I told her about the WCC and said that I was considering going next year. She just rolled her eyes and said, "Whatever". For those of you not married, this is very far from having approval.

Today, we went out and bought her a new car. Now, this wasn't an overt bribe. We had been planning on this for a little while. But, it did help to grease the skids. On our way back from the dealership, I more earnestly stated "I think that I'm going to go to California at the end of April". She was much more receptive to the suggestion. She said, "Tell me about this WCC thing". I was in the middle of my explanation when we arrived home.

There, waiting for me, was my copy of Excellence that came in the mail today. While I finished my explanation, I flipped it open to page 147. My wife said, "You should go". Then, I turned the page. She saw the picture of Brad's ass. bootyshake.gif Now, she is considering attending as well. w00t.gif

End result, I'm in!.

Posted by: skline Aug 9 2004, 10:53 PM

I most likely will go up but it wont be in the Chalon, It still isnt ready for the road yet. I have been swamped the last few weeks and just have not done anything to it. Elliot Cannon came by on Sunday to pick up that adapter and made a comment on how the garage looked all cleaned up and organized. That was quite a battle in itself. When is the GAF again?

A Ventura event, I'll have to try to make it, if not just for the weekend. I have no idea what my schedule will be in April/May, but I'll try to make as much of it as I can. Hwy 150 is a nice drive, but it s being patrolled pretty heavily now days. Hwy 33 north of Ojai (Between Ojai and hwy 166) is a great drive though -- plenty curvy, nice views, and not patrolled, which makes it one of my favorite drives.

For any one coming from the North via I-5 I would recommend taking 166 to 33 to 101 to get to Ventura. It's a fun drive and will take about an hour off the drive. If you get off I-5 at old river rd. it will save even more time. If any one wants to carpool (let me ride shotgun) or caravan from Chico to Ojai let me know. Hope to see lots of you there.

I didn't bring a camera, but lots of pix taken. Watch for posts.

MAJOR issues with Casa Sirena. Screwed up reservations, dirty rooms, lousy service. They have refurbed about half the rooms, and I made a point to tell them to put all 914 types in the redone ones. They forgot, and after looking at the second crappy room, Mr. and Mrs. BigKat83 went to Motel 6. They 'lost' Slits' reservation....

Lunch was a social success with about 30 attending and food was pretty good, but it took them an almost an hour to serve us. That's 30; would hate to see them try 130. Expecting call from manager manana. If no major ass kissing, we're going elsewhere.

GAF was nice if you like that sort of thing. So many beautiful cars in one place was overwhelming. Too bad most of them never get driven, but it is neat how they get armorall in the tire grooves. Think there was a seminar on that and truly sorry I missed it.

Unless you were hanging around MikeZ's POS collection with the 914 group, you might think that Porsche owners are not allowed to smile or laugh. Thanks for the chuckles. That's what will make WCC 2005 a winner.

I'll go take my meds now.

Casa is out. They are not willing to make any concessions on rates nor guarantee we would get the 'refurbished' rooms. Hampton Suites is current leader and I'm going there today, although several others look good. I'm trying to keep the rate under $90 per night and still get a nice place. Obviously we can do much better with a $125 budget, but afraid that won't sell. Still lots of time, no worries.

Don't worry slits, the event is still on.

I'm sure you'll do the right thing Howard. You are right about the price thing. A jump to $125 would make a lot of people balk (I'm one of them wink.gif ).

Correcto Mundo Boss! You get what you pay for. It's not like we all stayed together in San Jose. So maybe we can offer two options. One Jet Set and one Riff-Raff. The Pruneyard was nice and from what I understand it was quite the getaway spot some years ago. Fortunately I was there for the cars and the people and didn't really spend much time there and I expect the same situation for '05. Since most of the participants (including the SoCal) will need lodging, why not offer two options? Bringing the family? Take the nicer accomodations. Don't care either way? Choose option #2.

You're looking good Howard! smilie_pokal.gif

If I was really good with searching on the computer, I'd post a pic of the 914 with a tent built into the back and suggest we all camp on the beach. But I'll just have to be content to chuckle at myself.

Posted by: rhodyguy Sep 17 2004, 10:55 AM

i spent a night in yereka in a crap hole for not much less than the pruneyard. i spent the night in weed, at a generic holiday inn express, with a bed that i looked under the mattress for a sheet of plywood, for the same $$ as the pruneyard. imho the pruneyard was pretty nice digs for the cost. after a full day of driving comfort counts.

OK, after exhaustive research, here is the latest. Host hotel will be The Hampton Inn and Suites in Camarillo. The rooms are $89 (and up if you want a suite) and a real breakfast buffet is included. Close to PCH and Mulholland roads. But it's across the street from a major outlet mall, so be advised.
http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/hotels/index.jhtml;jsessionid=US3OW0LYO0UZOCSGBIVM22QKIYFC3UUC?ctyhocn=OXNHSHX Call 805/389-9898 and mention 914world.com to get this rate.

Less expensive ($60 ish) accomodations available across street at Days Inn. Includes continental breakfast.
http://www.daysinn.com/DaysInn/control/Booking/property_info?propertyId=05797&brandInfo=DI Best deal is to book on line.

Advise all who are even thinking of attending to reserve a room asap. You can cancel as late as March 15 with no penalty, and the more the merrier when it comes to haggling with hotel management for freebies. Really looking forward to seeing all of you. OK, most of you beerchug.gif

I like the idea of the two places. Hampton Inn has been involved in touring events especially the Route 66 event placing historic route 66 signs at diffferent locations. They covered and have on their web site 66 days of traveling from Santa Monica to Chicago. Very interesting and informative. Any business that will do that has my vote and I will stay there.

My wife and I are planning on being there and enjoying the best group of "car nuts" around.

I called the Hampton and to get the rate she told me I need a rate code she did not understand 914 club. Is the rate under something else or did I just get some one who did not undrestand what I was asking? headbang.gif

The sales person should be in on Monday. I'll give her a call..

I'm located nearby, in Simi Valley. I'm wondering if we need a PA of some sort for announcements/music. Since I run a DJ service, I think I might be able to put something together for us... either for entertainment or announcements.

If you're interested, please e-mail me directly: carlos@afterhours-entertainment.com

Carlos

Spoke to them today and magic code is 914club. Don't know what happened... First day we booked large number of rooms is 4/29/05, so tell them that if they can't find it.

Which place will it be; and , is there a group rate ? Will make reservation ASAP

Posted by: Howard Nov 1 2004, 10:36 PM

Hampton is host hotel, Days Inn for overflow and less expensive. But hang in there for a day or so, as plans still a bit loose. Will kill this thread and post a new one with the final details soon.

It's official: I've set WCC '05 for the official debut of my car.

Things are moving along nicely and I see no reason that deadline would not be met.

Looking forward to it already. driving.gif aktion035.gif mueba.gif boldblue.gif

I am thinking the WCC05 will be the debut of my car as well. So many little things that need to be done. Time will tell.

Oh Yeah. I'm ready. boldblue.gif All I gotta do is fill up the gas tank and I'm good to go. Driving my new 6 I should be able to make a lot better time (plus have a helluvalot more fun) than towing the race car. I expect Chris914n6 will be ready to join our pair of flared black teeners.
Look out WCC 2005. Here we come.

I'm starting to make some plans myself, weather can be iffy in the rocky's that time of year, but i'm game. I'm sure that some other Denver people (Gint, Scott, Brant ect) will be thinking about it as well, so if a caravan gets planned, count me in.
Ferg.

If the gang goes through Flagstaff I may be up for joining in. I don't know if I'll be going straight from Flagstaff or if I'll be going to Phoenix first and then to Southern CA. It's still too early to tell.

If the wife's got a job by then and I'm still employed, I'm there. If not, well... maybe. The car more than likely won't be ready, but that never stopped me before.

Jeeeeeez!!!! I am so envious of you V8 Guys!! Please come to WCC so I can show my wife how imortant it is. biggrin.gif
