Hi all,
Well I'm in Sunny SoCal and picked up my car yesterday. The parts haven't shown up for the side shifter conversion but I'm fumbling my way around with the car...man it's F'd up (the shifter).

I drove from Marina Del Rey to Pasadena last night and something weird happened.
I turned the heater on before I got off the 110 and about a mile down the road I turned the right turn signal on and "whizzack" the radio went off, the tack dropped to 0, the genny light came on. A couple seconds later the radio comes back and the tack and the gennie light dims a bit. Put my foot on the brake and no tack, radio, lights....

I haven't gone through the car since I got here (Pasadena) but I'm hoping its fuses or the gennie belt (I doubt this one, though).

Does anyone have the correct order for the fuses on the block under the steering wheel?

If so please give size/color starting at driver's left and move right.

I'm not so sure the sizes are correct on this car ('72 with a carb'd 2.0 installed)

Just stop at FLAPS and get fuses. Find a piece of sandpaper somewhere and start cleaning fuse contacts in the box and the fuse ends. Replace fuses as necessary.

i would pry the regulator open. (someone posted napa sells them, but i olny buy there in desperate situations)


pelican won't let me into the 914 diagram. i'll try the 924. the gen should be the 9th moving left to right?

pelican is down. i seach on renn or shop talk. start with an 8 and see if she blows. it should not take may amps to excite the gen.

From Haynes, 1972, USA
1 High beam left
2 High beam right
3 Low beam left
4 Low beam lrifht
5 Parking light, left
6 Parking plate light
7 License plate light
9 Stop, turn and backup lights
10 (Fog lights)
11 Interior light, warning light, buzzer
12 Retractable hedlight motor

Caveates:

No values give for the fuses (I'm looking at the wiring diagram)

8 is missing (dunno what that means)

I'm guessing it's left to right, but the book doesn't actually seem to say. There is a pic that seems to say that the lights are on the left.

From the shop manual -- there are two diagrams for a 72.

The second one has:

8 Fresh air fan,horn, windshield wipers, cigarette lighter.

Dunno why there's two. Still no fuse values.

check the power relay on the relay board (wiggle the feed from the hot side / unfused of #11 on the fuse panel)

i dunno if this will help as its for a 74. Its the only reference i know of other than the manual.

Still, I don't think you had a current "steal" because of oxydized fuse contacts but that you have a faulty connection or relay somewhere.

Now would be a good time to buy a multimeter if you don't already own one... wink.gif

while your at the auto parts, get 4 small hose clamps. where the tail shifter arm comes out of the tranny, slip a hose clamp around the four sides where the shift rod ball fits in. it might get rid of enough slop to make it driveable 'till you get the side shifter in.

Owners’ manual from 73 is the same, all 8amp except #8 & #12, they are both 25amp.

Sean, Sorry to read about a problem so early. There is a fuse on the battery, the PO had a stereo place install the radio, I found it when the radio stopped working, fuse was blown. Replaced, okay.
I thought the side shifter was done??

I dont want to be a DICK.. but where did you have this car worked on ??

Sideshift conversion missing everything should take ..oh about 8 hours to complete.

The I would have driven the car for a week back and forth to the shop BEFORE you showed up to drive it. 2000 miles....LOL

Check your grounds, especially if someones been messin' with your tranny. I had similar problems with a 914 I had until I found that someone had left a ground off.

It's not my mechanic's fault.
I bought the parts from someone else early in April and they simply haven't shown up yet. I guess he(the seller,not my mechanic) said they were shipped via US Mail/Parcel Post. So, I really may never see them!

I'm trying to weigh my options, I can prolly find all the parts in SoCal, but I hate buying shit twice, especially since I know I'm not gonna be doing another side conversion anytime soon after this one.

James' shifter even may work on a sideshifter?
I dunno, I don't really have a time when I HAVE to leave LA.
I'm working in Anaheim W,T & F, hopefully the parts will show up before then and I can
drop the car back off.

It'll work out somehow!

Anyone have ideas?
What kinda parts do you SoCal guys have around?

Will James' shifter work well my car?
Can I get one in Time?

(starting to sound like the end of a bad '60s serial isn't it?)

I had the same problem last summer,headbang.gif gauges and indicator lights not functioning properly, going wild when I stepped on the brake pedal. Corrosion and worn through contact point on F9. (1974 car)
