Doooode, I feel your pain. They look soo bad, I know I am going to have nightmares tonight. Ask the seller for you cash back.

Let me see what I've got in my stash. Those are late model single pipe - I do have a couple and will check the condition of the clamshells. Mine aren't stainless that I am aware of - are you sure those are?

Magnet....

Posted by: ejm Aug 9 2004, 05:26 PM

I don't think they ever made the '75-76 HE's in stainless.

I believe they did. There is a guy with a set of stainless HE's that I saw here in Bakersfield who loves them (Iam trying like HELL to get him to join us).

Posted by: Brad Roberts Aug 9 2004, 06:30 PM

Those are stock 75-76 HE's.. not stainless. The clean up like stainless... but they are not.

Plain old stock factory HEs. You've been, shall we say, misled ............................ Might wanna have Guido speak with the seller. One of the prime features of SS heat ecchangers is the SS heat shrouding over the exhaust pipes themselves, and this ain't it. Good luck, The Cap'n

i was gonna buy those!...but then i quit my job and had no money..so i didnt....phew...sorry man....we all get hosed sometimes

Posted by: soloracer Aug 9 2004, 08:47 PM

Where in Canada did you purchase those? Perhaps someone here knows the seller.

Posted by: rdauenhauer Aug 9 2004, 10:12 PM

Silly Q: but why screw around with the Late OE F'ed up ex-plumbing ? Why not simply chuck it in lue of a nice set of 73-74 2.0 exchangers (stock or SS) and the obligitory bursch or bannana?

Posted by: Brad Roberts Aug 9 2004, 10:26 PM

He didnt know what he was buying.

No I meant was there a reason (emmissions) to not abandon the cat setup?

Posted by: SLITS Aug 10 2004, 08:27 AM

agree.gif California - '75 is supposed to be "exempt" now, but '76 is not.

Posted by: rhodyguy Aug 10 2004, 08:27 AM

WOW ohmy.gif . i don't think i would be able to contain myself if i opened the box and saw those. i bet shipping wasn't cheap nor the wait to recieve them short. that is the worst. i think the seller knew EXACTLY what he was unloading. did you ask for pictures before you purchased?

I did get a few pics before I bought them and even sent them to another member for verification. They looked alot better in the sellers pics. than in real life. ar15.gif

Hi, I have a spare 75 914 parts car in my attic. Think the engine is a 1.8. Where are you? I'm in San Diego, Ca. I have the exhaust, looks in pretty fair shape, will try to attach a couple of pictures. Anyway, if you're close, come pick them up, I'll charge you a cup of coffee at the coffee house down the street.

Yo, Don--smaller pics, please!!!!

Posted by: DonTraver Aug 10 2004, 10:36 AM

Here's one more shot of them. They look kind of ruff in the pictures, but I've cleaned up worse, haven't noticed any spots of rust going thru. The spare car was a fire car, guy bought it didn't check fuel line for age. Here in San Diego, there's a company, RW Little that does Powder Coating, Flame Spraying, I've used them for years on my Harley & Porsche's always excellent work and on time. Take Care, Don

My problem is that I didn't really need them. The ones I have are fine, I was just trying to upgrade to SS. chair.gif

Posted by: DonTraver Aug 10 2004, 10:45 AM

LOL, I just bought this camera, I have no idea on how to reduce the size of the pics. But you have to admit, great detail. Anyway, send me a email if you want them. I've got other parts for a 914-4 I don't need. Talk to you later, oh yeah, here's a pic you might like.

That purdy....you have to reduce your photos in a photoshop type program before posting.

Was the HE purchase off Ebay or the classifieds section of the board? Have you contacted the sellar? Mabey he didn't know what they were either and thought they were SS. Talk to him. They might make it right.

Posted by: Headrage Aug 10 2004, 11:03 AM

I bought them from a guy who posted on pelicans site. Paid through paypal so I might have some recourse. I'll give him a chance to fix it.

I'm guessing that you can access your attic other than with the pull-down ladder. biggrin.gif

That's funny. Someone gave me a free pair of HEs and they turned out to be 1.7L SSIs. They had so much baked on crud on them that I thought they were just regular steel until I cleaned them up.

Posted by: Dr Evil Aug 11 2004, 04:58 PM

Don,
where in San Diego do you live? Just send me your address and leave that engine outside for me to "look at." wink.gif I am rebuilding a 2.7 right now..../6 yeah!

Posted by: Headrage Aug 14 2004, 08:35 AM

boldblue.gif Gotta full refund for the HE's I bought! Now I feel bad about all the nasty thoughts I had. sad.gif

Posted by: SLITS Aug 14 2004, 09:08 AM

Great clap56.gif I have found that most eBayers are just honest folk - well, with the exception of the deadbeats ar15.gif but ya kinda expect that these days.

Posted by: GWN7 Aug 14 2004, 10:05 AM

This was a private sale from the bird board.......glad it was resolved. beerchug.gif
