914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Anyone need vinyl graphics
Posted by: Van Nov 23 2011, 11:26 AM
I recently bought a vinyl cutter to do some work on my track car and some other projects. Do people in the 914 community need anything?
I've made up a porsche logo that's about 16" tall by 13" wide. Looks nice in the garage or on... well, just about anything!
Here are some pictures of what I've done:

Can you make a VW circle about 20 inches in diameter?
What is the widest you can go?
Zach

How do these stick? Is there adhesive?
Posted by: Vacca Rabite Nov 23 2011, 12:19 PM
Oh, good question. I'd be putting this on a wall.

One big ass Porsche Logo and One or two Big ass VW logo...I am in.

My cutter can take 24" material, but some of what I have is 15" wide. What color are you looking for Zach, for the VW logo?
The way these decals work, the vinyl has an adhesive back and is on a release liner in a big roll. The cutter is like a computerized xacto knife that cuts out the shape I want (I have to send it a vector file from Adobe Illustrator). Then I have to peel off the vinyl I don't want, leaving the final design intact on the release liner. Then I take a large piece of masking tape and apply it overtop.
To put the decal on your car, or the wall, or any reasonably smooth surface, you peel the masking tape off and the vinyl pieces are stuck to that. You put it on your surface, rub the vinyl down well (and wait a little while if you've used soapy water to ensure no air bubbles), then peel off the masking tape, leaving the vinyl behind.
For the graphics on my orange 944, I just layered the colors. The Jagermeister deer is first a yellow circle, then a brown circle with the sunburst cutout and then a white layer of the deer and the cross.

Here's a video showing how I install a windshield banner (or, in this case a 944 hatch banner):
16" Porsche logo and 14" VW logo - $15 each Priority mail shipping - $6 (unless you buy a whole lot!) If you buy more than 1, take a $5 discount.
If you want somethething larger or smaller - contact me first to make sure I can do that size and/or have the material
Colors - I currently have: black, white, red, yellow, gray, metallic silver, brown and orange
I can order almost any color, but there will be an extra charge we'll have to work out.
Here's what a VW logo would look like:
p.s. for the VW logo, I can do that in reverse, too, depending on what you're putting it on... e.g. the white area could be a color and the black area would be whatever you put it on.
Posted by: r_towle Nov 23 2011, 01:53 PM
I would like one of each...a large porsche logo and a large VW logo.
B&W on the porsche logo Blue and white on the VW logo....ala vw.
PM me how you want to be paid.
Rich

THAT IS WHAT I WANT! Maybe a 1970s Jeep logo too.
The space I want it is 21 inches wide, and outside but sheltered.

I'm looking for a couple black decals version of the 914-6 badge found on the back of the car. Are you able to create a couple?
Also like the "Porsche" helmet visor. Can you also create one of those and if so how much?

How about a Lotus Logo!

A 914-6 badge like this?
For the helmet visor, it's the right curve for a Bell M4... yours might be a little different. Price is $10 - that's for either white Porsche on a black ribbon, or vice versa (just let me know which you want).

Sure - I found Adobe Illustrator artwork for a Lotus logo.
I also have logos for Alfa Romeo, BMW, Jaguar, Corvette, Mustang, Bugatti and Ferrari.

Do you do large lengths? I'm doing a VW pickup (caddy) and want some sort of mild body graphics... a subtle ghoasted tan on tan starsky & hatch strip, I think that would work with the lines. Yeah I know how subtle can that be!?

Original Positive side stripes?

If you gave me pretty detailed measurments, and picked out the right color, I'm sure I can do it. I can only cut 23" wide, so we might have to do it in sections.

I also made some smaller Porsche shields - they are 5" tall. Only $5 each!
And the 914-6 logo is two for $5. Just cut the "-6" off and you have the 914 logo. It's exactly the same size as the metal badge on the back of the car.

I know we are a small club and this is small potatoes, but I'd edit this thread a bit, a couple of said companies are rabid about infringement lately.

A long shot, but thought I'd ask anyway. We're thinking about the follow paintscheme for Chumpcar next Summer. I have no idea where to get vinyl relatively cheap. Obviously we'd have to paint the base in one color or the other, but the striping would require vinyl to be cut. What do you guys think? Team Falken Around?

A graphic job like that is probably a "vehicle wrap" where they print on a large sheet of vinyl and then wrap/shrink-wrap the whole thing. If you're doing chump car, you're probably best off just masking that (with 3 different thicknesses of tape) and painting on the pattern. Even a hundred bucks for graphics will throw your budget off.

Hey Van, I had a couple of questions. I was looking for some negative stripes for the lower sides like Picture #3 in the 3 example post.
I notice that your vinyl is glossy,do you have it in satin of flat?
Is the vinyl UV stable? what was the brand name.?
Are you able to cut them in one long piece?
Thanks, your stuff looks very cool. Steve

I can do matte black or matte white for an extra charge.

I use Oracal 751 vinyl - the colors are rated for 7 year outside exposure and the black and white are rated for 8 years.
Are you able to cut them in one long piece?
Technically I can cut as long as a roll - which is 30 feet. Realistically, 6 or 7 feet is about all I want to deal with - longer than that, and it's unwieldy!
Thanks, your stuff looks very cool. Steve

If you have vector files (like Adobe Illustrator) I can do them easily. If you have just the JPGs, I'll have to charge you for my time to redraw them.

Sometimes it can be an automatic conversion in a high-contrast image, but sometimes it has to be redrawn.
