Will a 7" rim, handle 215 Falken Azenis tires for street & track?
yup, 7" and 215's would work well.
of course, it won't fit under a stock-fendered 914. you'll have to run 7" and 205's for that.
or you could pull your fenders a bit if you don't have paint.
Should be no problem. Porsche put 225's on 7's on the early 928 and I think the rears on SC's are 7's with 225's.
Depends on the backspacing of the wheel. Needs to be 5" on a 7" wheel.
Paul
Nathan,
You are SURE the 215's won't fit? I have been told that with right spacing 8" will fit.
I thought I was being conservative with 7"
No, I'm not sure. other people who know more will chime in.
i think paul (URY) is running 215's -- aren't you paul?
however, general consensus is that a 7" rim w/ 205's is pushing it on stock fenders. most often people roll their rear fender lips to accomodate the 205's (same problem 5.5-7")
now, if you don't mind doing some pulling (as opposed to just rolling), then go for the 215's. you may have some front rub at full lock. however, a good sticky 205 should have enough grip for most applications.
225's will fit on 7's 245's will fit on 8's and 275's will fit on 9's...
Thats my rule of thumb...
Now fittment into the fenders is a WHOLE nother idea..
I understand that 205 will fit most applications, but I have 2.8-6 engine, around 245hp. I need as much tire as I can get, but do not want to flare. Fender lips are roller.
If there is anyone that has tried/uses this combo, please let me know.
You have 245hp..
You NEED to flare the fenders!!! Or else it could be a scary drive....
I'm determined to create a hot, purposefull looking 914, without doing the obvious flared wheel wells.
Who said anything about obvious?
John kelly....
hammer about an inch out extra. and boom, get 225's in the back.
Lots of work, but it will get the look you want.
Just something to think about..
With just a little roll from a baseball bat I was able to get 225 - 50's to fit.
They are on 7 x 15 Fuchs.
John,
you interested in selling any of those extra 7inch fuchs race wheels seperate from the car?
retrotech, run a search.. lots of threads about this.
My personal experience on 2 different cars that I DO run 225's on...
was that 6's and 205's are a safe bet...
7's work for some and not for others with a 205 tire....
225's need new paint and heavy massaging...
but I've said this before, so try it out and see.
brant
I have 16x7 with 205 and they barely fit the rears stock fender
I hate to here that. I have put 17 x 7" with 205's, and they look like they will fit.
Retrotech, I have instaled 7x16's with 205/45's and they fit although I had to roll the fender lip on one side. Every car is different. The key is the width of the tire, but 205 is the limit without pulling the fenders quite a bit. Yours may fit. Give it a try.
