914World.com _ 914World Garage _ "914 GURL" Hats Anyone?
Posted by: GTeener Aug 13 2004, 10:36 AM
I'm looking into having a "914 GURL" hat done for myself, but got to thinking...(dangerous, I know) if others of you might be interested, perhaps the production costs would come down.
I'm envisioning an easy-fit , low profile style baseball hat, in kahki or light gray.
Let me know how many people are interested so I can get a more proper price quote.
Guys, great gift for the daughters, girlfriends and wives
Thanks!

Aww, Gwen. You should make it a gurly pink.

I ordered myself a club hat too. You can never have enough hats in sunny California
Posted by: GTeener Aug 13 2004, 10:56 AM
Does that mean I can add you to the count, Jen?
We could do a girlie pink hat, but the artwork won't stand out very well.
I'm thinking black text looks better though.

Hmmm...
Now there's an idea...

Excellent Mer!
Just trying to get an idea (for pricing) first of how many hats to order.
The artwork I'm tending towrads is the 2nd image I posted (with black lettering), unless the shocking pink example is more popular.
Hat style I'm looking for is the low-profile, easy-fit kind, like the kahki 914club hats.

I think that you should just use the profile of the car in your picture and remove the face inside it. I would get one for my wife if it looked like that.

Speaking for my girlfriend...
Kahki or black (esp. black) will go with anything (clothing-wise)
No face, detracts from the image.
Bold lettering, definitely.
Speaking for me...
No hot pink. Flourescents fade over time and then look crappy.
Speaking for both of us...
Why "gurl"?
Why not just simply "girl"?
Or how about "grrl"?

I'll take one for my daughter. My wife and other daughter do not much care about the 914 (sigh...). Whatever design/colors you, or the majority, decide will be fine. Personally I like it without the face.

I don't know if there's enough demand (and orders) to warrant a second color.
It would look nice in black, but the problem with that is the tires and the top of the car would blend in with the hat.

OK guys. Now we need a "914 guy" hat to match the wife's. Since yellow Porsches are faster this is what we do. kaki hat yellow car same design change the words to "914 guy"
So now I need one of each.

you're telling me! Brian and I each have a blue and khaki one. Plus this third run of orange hats, I'm getting one for myself, and one for my uncle (who knows nothing about 914s, but really likes the previous two Zephyr hats). And now it looks like I'm getting another khaki one, with pink embroidering. We have one of those hat racks that go over the top of the door, and between Brian's baseball and my 914 obsessions, it's exploding... I really should draw the line at the fourth 914 hat...

that's not including my blue 914 hat, which is semi-permanantly looped around the shift knob of the teener. This prevents the crazy haired that would normally occur should the top be off. Plus it keeps the sun out of my eyes, since I'm usually too short for the visor to do me any good.

The white would get dirty so quickly that it would end up looking like khaki anyway. This saves a step.

In defense of my design.
I was trying to be cool with the "gurl" spelling. A bit arbitrary I guess. I concede that there are other cool/funny ways to spell it.
I'll give this limited edition hat a try and if it is well received and relatively easy to manage, I'll consider doing a new design variation next year.
But the first release will look like this:

Black would look cool, but the design would have to change a little.
Since I've never orchestrated something like this before I'm going to keep it as simple as possible. One design. One hat color.
Maybe next year, a new design variation, on a different color of hat....

Especially us gurlz with long hair in convertibles. Keeps the hair contained (out of the face & eyes) plus offers some sun protection
Hats are also easier to wear regularly than t-shirts -- for gurlz anyway...

If you can find the original artist, send 'em my way if he's got a problem with what I'm doing.
The design I'm using is a personally edited variant of the original, which I've only seen on the web posted in one place as part of misc. 914 stuff. Would it make a difference if I redrew it myself, because I am capable.
I'm not trying to make a profit in this venture, if that's what you're worried about, just make something fun and a little unique for us female enthusiasts.
Posted by: Pam Aug 16 2004, 03:09 PM
Not 'worried' about anything, GTeener. Just making sure you knew if you didn't originate the design or make material changes to it someone could cause problems for you down the road.
I'm not on the order list - not much for 'special' things for females......so I don't care one way or the other - just trying to give you a heads up.

Excellent question!
I don't have an exact schedule yet, but I'm hoping I'll have the hats the begining of October.
I'm waiting for the 2nd sample hat to come. Then if I like it, I'll give the vendor the go and I think it's supposed to take 7-10 days for the order to ship to me.
Once I get the hats I'll start processing the orders according to payments received.
As of right now, I have 52 hats "reserved" based on expressed interest, and I ordered a total of 72.
I'm presuming there are people out there that may be waiting to see the real thing before committing, plus new people to the forum, so I ordered a few extras.
The holidays are right around the corner too

I want it to be closer to the artwork I sent. Little details that bug me but probably few would notice. What can I say I'm picky...
Tweeks like:
- The bumper colors to be reversed
- More black around the tires (missing sidewalls)
- There' s some pink overstiching over the back tire that I don't like.

Thanks to all of you have have begun sending your payments in.
Just wanted to give you all an update.
I wasn't happy with the 2nd sample I got last week and am awaiting a correction. This time I've been promissed a picture of the stitch file sans hat, which should be quicker.
Hoping to see it this week.
I'm feeling 98% confident they'll get it right this time, which means that I can give my vendor the OK and have the hats to me within 5-7 days.
If you ordered a hat and haven't paid yet, please do so soon. We're getting really close.
Thanks ya'll

Nope...
Maybe next hat endeavor I won't restrict my design to "gurls" only
I need to finish selling the 914 GURL hats first!
I could look into having my avitar design made into an embroidered iron-on patch maybe...
Would that be of interest to anyone? It would allow for more flexible application (shirts, bags, hats, towels, pants, cloth upholstery, etc...)

Your avatars are very creative and I have liked all of the ones I have seen.
You should go ahead and promote them, even though you do not have all of the 914 gurl hats sold. Heck, get out of control and do a bunch at once.
I do like the idea of the patches. Good way to start out. Then you would be able to see what people use them on and get marketing ideas from there. (shirts, tanks, totes, ties, panties , ect.)

LOL
When I was a kid I always wanted a purple Porsche.
I'm afeerd that purple would not be my 1st choice for product marketing though. I'm more apt to stick to traditional 914 colors. Red is on the top of my list. Orange probably 2nd (to match the cone), White 3rd.

OK ya'll,
As of this morning, the hat shipment is still scheduled to ship to me from the factory tomorrow. It will take 5-7 days to get to me, so
October 13 is still the ETA to me.
I have discussed the possibility of having a few hats drop shipped for FFC (per request by some of you).
I need to know TODAY how many hats fall in to this category...
...
AND is there one trustworthy person in the FFC area willing to accept the drop shipment and distribute the orders for me. Let me know
ASAP and include a shipping address.

seems like if you can turn them right around on the 14th they'll still have a full 7-day week to get where they're going. if you were thinking of Priority (not Express...) Mail that should be plenty of time even for coast-to-coast. USPS has actually been running pretty smoothly lately ...
so - if you can get it to me not later than Oct 21, send it directly. i think of the FFC people, we're the farthest East, so if you can get it here in time, it should work for others -- except maybe the people who are leaving on Thursday...

Yes, I was already planning to send them Priority Post.
I won't be able to turn everyone's hats around on the 14th, I do have a "real" job.
How many hats are intended for FFC?

OK FFC people:
Garold Shaffer
Chris DeRango
William Lutman
Rich Herzog
Dave Monk
I'm sending your 9 hats to Sean, since I'm fairly confident he'll also be dealing with the club hats then too.
Hope all yer GURLs like 'em
Crap!!!!
Why can't anything go smoothly!
Apparently the factory shipped the hats to me a day earlier than expected by the vendor.
No factory drop shipping happening. I should get the factory shipment on the 12th or 13th...
Would you FFC people prefer I send your hats individually or to Sean?

Don't sweat it, Gwen. Getting them early is a GOOD thing. If it'd be easier for you to ship them to Sean, I'm sure the FFC attendees won't mind..

i think they should go to someplace where they can be received on Friday or Saturday - i don't know Sean's plans for certain but i expect he'd be in Columbus rather than Indy those days...
maybe they can go to the site of the "work on a 914 day" event (Doug?) or to the HQ hotel ...

If you are sending others to Sean, send my to Sean. If you are sending everybody else's individually, just send mine here. What ever is easiest for you.
Same for me.
