I am looking at the Bursch headers for $399.
Any good?

Racer's group has some for $500ish and up.

I'm listening... idea.gif

The money factor is a concern, however I understand most good systems ( headers and mufflers ) run about a grand.

heheh. great encouragement coach! rolleyes.gif

is he going with a small six?

Posted by: nebreitling Aug 15 2004, 11:57 PM

yeah -- what happened to being the Tony Robbins of 914's?

seems like the 4's are quicker at the AX. but they don't have that gorgeous sound...

Posted by: Brad Roberts Aug 16 2004, 12:04 AM

I have made all the mistakes.. why let other people make the same mistakes ??

I have been down the small 6 route... sold the car. It was anemic and almost a complete waste of time/resources. I should have continued to save and save for the 3.0. I didnt listen to my elders at the time either...

Drive or ride in a well prepared carbed 3.0... there will be no question when you get out of the car. I have 4-5 factory 2.0/2.2 9146 guy's wanting 3.0/3.2's for their cars. Bag/tag the stocker and install a real daily driver engine.

My motor is still a mystery cc wise. Someday I'll know something and will tell all.

If I put it in my car, I want it right.

Why don't we just pull a head and measure things? Quick and easy.

didn't see your smiley so i don't know if you're kidding ...

pulling a head in a 911 is neither quick nor especially easy - assuming you want also to put it back together ... for instance - most people who haven't done one yet don't have the 46mm crowsfoot wrench in their box ...

Could you give a little hint. What is the engine code ?? Does it start with 901, 911 or 930 ??

Are details available on the web for the European Racing Headers ? I have a small six too, and it could use new headers too.

The type # is by the rib of the oil sender....it will read 901/XX, 911/XX or 930/XX.....

I have used Bursch and the European ones.....Bursch rusted pretty quickly.

Since they are basically worthless, I am going to set up a website where you guys can fill out a form and have those early sixes hauled off free of charge. Who's first?

Posted by: michel richard Aug 16 2004, 11:29 AM

Sorry guys, I misstyped, should not have said "I have a small 6 too".

I should have said I have a lightweight free-revving 6.

Fits the 914's personnality perfectly; has seen the north side of 7400 without misshap. ( 2.2 E with MFI)

The howl is what it's all about.

Michel

p.s I will pay shipping on all those free 2.0, 2.2 and 2.4 engines.

That's fine, as long as they are shipped to my house. It was my idea - I'll give you the 2nd engine that comes in. Deal? What do you think about these web addresses:

www.screamingsix.com

How do those sound ?

Michel

Posted by: J P Stein Aug 16 2004, 11:59 AM

I have a set of Bursch on my car. Blast off the shit paint that comes on em' and repaint with Hi temp.....I use stove paint. Re do them every 2-3 years, no rust. Been on there for 6-7 years. They work.

Brad: Was that the "see how cheep I can build a sixer" car .....the one that smoked like a cheep cigar? laugh.gif

Posted by: d914 Aug 16 2004, 12:00 PM

Plan too, get them jet coated, but I need to use the car this weekend so out they go as they are. Mine is the car that got hit on the trailer. Bent my header.

By the way, Any body good with a welder???? Cheap, very cheap set of headers for a 6..... Pay shipping. Jetcoated and bent.

Posted by: michel richard Aug 16 2004, 12:11 PM

Greg,

I would take those headers. I'm pretty handy with a welder.

How bad is the bend ?

Michel

Posted by: J P Stein Aug 16 2004, 12:13 PM

Trekkor: That's the serial number. Look about 4 inches to the right....facing the fan....on the top of the case, just behind the chain housing. A number 901/xx or 911/xx. It DOES matter.

From your pic, that appears to be an aluminum case....and that's gud. Are the cyls aluminum?....or rusty?

There are a bunch of things that can be learned without taking off a head....you don't wanna go there. Valve lift will get ya a good run at the cam type.

Type number will tell what case is there, thus the mods that are possible.....or wise.

Mostly, whether or 245 hp is likely or total "family legend"(aka: bullshit)

Posted by: d914 Aug 16 2004, 12:33 PM

These shorty (mid tranny) 1 5/8. Bent on the driver side:
- 1st primary twisted just below the flange
- 1st and second primaries bent at the 90
degree bend

Greg, thanks for the pics.

I'm running MFI and I need to build a heater box around one of the pipes to get heat to my pump thermostat.

Your headers look great but I'm not sure I could build a box around all those curves.

So I'll pass. Once again, thanks for the pics.

Michel

Posted by: James Adams Aug 16 2004, 01:07 PM

Greg, I'll take them if no one else has dibs yet.

Its funny I have seen the rear shot for months, but when I saw the bottom/engine I recognized the car. Those were great headers.

Here's my European Racing headers from George. They're 1 3/4" dia for my 3.6. I had them sent directly from George to jethot for coating in silver. They look sweet........

Bursh the last 4 conversions, yep the paint bakes off the first couple of drives so just shoot some decent paint on them. Good fit, good price. wink.gif

Posted by: carr914 Aug 19 2004, 03:46 PM

I've got Kerry Hunter's 914-6 headers with megaphones. I always had good look with his 914-4 headers and his 914-6 headers are much nicer and reasonably priced.
