Hi all,
I finally managed to free the ball joint from hell, and I was finally able to get my strut out. After getting the strut out, I was able to pound out the roll pin that is supposed to hold the shock insert in. This is a Bilstein strut, so it isn't supposed to have a big nut on the top. So, I figured that the shock would just slide out, but it ain't moving! What the hell!?! So, am I missing something? Who's done this before, and can give me some direction. Damn 30 year old siezed up parts! I can supply pics, if it would help.
spray some bp blaster down the strut tube. try taping on the rod or the insert body to vibrate the penetrating fluid all around . don't the bils have some sort of retaining cap? show a picture of the top as it now.

I'll grab a few pictures after work. I'd heard that there wasn't a gland nut or retaining nut on the top of the Bilstein struts. There is some sort of a cap on the top, but it doesn't look like its threaded, and it doesn't seem to want to move. Hopefully a few pics will help.
