Hi all,
I need a new engine comp. sound pad. I found this one @ PP. Are there other options??? (other than leaving it out completely.)
Thanx, Gary

Bought what looks like the same one form this guy and received it last week. Haven't installed, but looks like a perfect fit. Price is right @ $37.50 including US shipping.

Leave it out...it is a good way to absorb moisture and begin the rusting process.

First make sure your rear window is sealing, then put insulation on the inside!

Where can you get a sound/heat pad for the passenger compartment? I ripped out that 15lbs pad that came in it stock.

From experiments done in other cars (not a 914), adding sound insulation on the "noisy" side is often more effective than adding it on the "quiet" side.

IMHO, if you're getting so much moisture into the engine bay that you're really worried about how much will be absorbed by a sound pad, you're going to have rust problems, anyway. Paint the firewall properly so the metal is sealed and put a sound absorbing pad on the engine side. It will make a much bigger difference than putting the same weight sound pad on the inside.

My car is an early '70 model and never came with a pad. But I don't understand why you would need one...I drive my car to work daily and have never thought it was too loud. It even has a Bursch exhaust.

I POR15'ed the whole engine compartment so I'm not concerned with moisture trapped in the pad. When I removed the old pad it was thrashed and heavy. I just bought a new pad off EvilBay for $30.- it only weighs 2Lbs. I also bought new engine bay seals from pp - but they didn't include the front seal. That suckz. So now I need to get creative... HomeDepot here I come.
ohmy.gif I gotta get my engine back in - I'm havin' teener withdrawals. driving.gif

I think Zois has the contact for the guy who cuts 'em.

I agree with the don't put it back in crowd.

I took mine out , damn thing musta weighed 25-30 lbs. Nothing but a moisture trap.

I am going to lay a nice thick bed of chipguard down and then paint over that. This is very similar to the coating they put inside of regular car doors to minimize sound transfer. I've done on a couple of car now with very good results.

Good luck

The guy that sells on ebay and PP makes them...really light. I took a stock one and had a pattern cut and sent it to the maker.....he sells the raw material ....enuf for a pair for about 30 bucks....his cut ones have nice bound edges.

I'm sure he will be at Ventura Autofest....goes under the ebay name of appbiz...he also does carpet kits.
