Okay so maybe I'll get it right this time by putting it in this forum.

I am trying to organize a group buy for a set of flares from Auto Atlanta.

The price will be $750.00 and a minimum of thirty Buyers will be required to implement the buy. AA will begin production when I have funds equivalent to twenty Buyers submitted and the last ten funds in-process. Production will take a couple of weeks.

AA will also offer the GRP Flared Rockers for an extra $100.00.

Please respond as quickly as you can with your commitment and I will begin to set up an account. I guess that I will accept checks and I also have paypal if you want to do that (with a transaction fee included).

I ask that all of those that were interested in jeeperjohn56's thread to please reconfirm with me in this thread.

I'll work my hardest for everyone to make this a quick and successful group buy.

The flares are not for my six; it is stock bodied and will remain that way. I am buying the flares for my 2nd 914....down the road, which will be a flared more radical street car.

I would imagine AA wouldn't mind as long as it were its own group buy and we had 30 plus buyers. Otherwise the intent was to offer it as an incentive with the Flares. Not really fair to camp on to the ones that are spending more and getting the Flares. Lets see how many end up wanting Flares also.

I will collect the money and be responsible for issuing a cashiers check or cash transfer to AA from a separate account that I have with BofA. i also have an account with Wells Fargo if anyone has problems with BofA.

I ahve run golf leagues for companies in the past and have had the experience of collecting and managing the funds.

AA will not be able to hold and track the participants.

Lets give the thread a few more days and then I will provide information on where to send the funds.

If previous group buy organizers have a different experience please tell me.

We had a deadline for the money to be sent. I had members send me money orders made out to AA. I didn't want to place large amounts of money under my name from people who didn't know me. The money was sent to AA one we reached our numbers and production started immediately. I placed ads in all the 914 sites but world got the most views by far. We had buyers from Spain, France, Germany and Japan. I had a great time talking to many people who participated in the flare buy. I think it is a bit premature for another big buy but wish you all the best. mark

I already have a set of factory flares, but would be in for a set of flared fiberglass rocker panels. I understand your position regarding these, so I will stand by to see if you meet your quota for steel flares and can offer the rockers to others. Thank you.

And thanks to you and everyone else who has tried to arrange various group buys. It is a big effort to provide a service to the World and it is appreciated.

No, they were $550 and George did say he would never offer them that low again. That was also 2 years ago. But the past is the past and the current price of $750 is great! I might buy a set for a future build.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but there was additional s&h charge of $75. So the total for your group by was $625.

Is s&h included in this group by of $750? If $750 is the total, then I'm in for a set.

s&h was a flat $50 to the lower 48

In a another couple years we'll wish we could get them at $750. I've seen factory sets selling for $3K+

Thanks for sharing the history of the previous buy Mark.

Wasn't the previous group buy for a larger number also? Like 50 ? We have a lower number for the buy and George did say that he would not go any lower regardless of group size due to his commitments to the other companies that sell his flares.

Yes, it was tiered pricing but I ignored the lower numbers and only advertised the 40+ price. If you could get some foreign speaking guys to post on the different sites in france, germany, japan, ect. it might help. We sold 10+ sets overseas last time. I would also hit the club site, pelican and the 914 group on yahoo. 750 is a really good price! There isn't a lower priced alternative.

They are better quality than the factory original flares at 1/4 the price. How is that *not* a good deal?

I bought a set in the first original group buy. Included them in the sale of the blue 914 (Dumba$$!!) Not sure if I'll use them right away, but the prices are too good to pass up. Include me in the group buy with rockers (as long as I can pay after the first of the year!)

Did George quote a shipping cost per set? A complete total would be nice to know.

Shipping Costs

$90 for the Flares.

$28 for the Rockers.

The first ten buyers of the Rockers will also get free shipping on any additional parts purchased at that time as they will be packed in the Rocker box.

We're at about 15 Buyers if I count 'em right.

Come on you guys that are right on the edge. I know its Christmas and money is tight, plus we're supposed to think about other first.

We'll wait for you or ask your better half for Flares as a xmas present.

I'll be working on determining better shipping rates to various parts of the country (and Europe) next week.

OK, newbie question here: If you install the flares, do you then need the rockers for proper fitment? If so, put me down for the rockers as well.

My opinion - You fit the flares to the car, weld, bodywork and then you fit the rockers to the car and modify as needed. The flares become part of the fenders. The rockers are a large trim piece. There are other opinions and lots of install threads to review.

I bought the AA steel flairs from the first group buy. Venice Beach Auto Body aka Beach Boys Racing installed mine. I thought they did a great job.

The flared rockers do not. The raised letters are on the ABS rocker covers. They could likely be modified to fit over the top of flared rockers, but it would not be easy.

We are almost there gang!!!! I will double check my list but I think that we are one buyer away. There maybe a few that are still on the fence that I have on the list but I will ask for firm commitment when I think we've cleared 30.

I also discussed holding it open until the middle of the month to amke sure we would have enough and to give everyone a chance to get out from Xmas and the holidays.

I need to get some shipping cost estimates to various parts of the country and to a couple of spots in Europe and we will be good to go.

We can hope that one of the previous Group Buy Coordinators had this happen and chime in. Either way I will discuss this with AA on Monday and lets see what they say. I don't think that it will be a problem.

IIRC, I think international money orders are cheap. We had buyers from Japan, Spain, Germany and France. I'm pretty sure that was the easiest and cheapest way to pay. Sent to me but made out to AA.

Yeah, the money Orders were about $8.00, unfortunately they don't offer them anymore, as of a couple of years ago. I'm in either way, but if I can save the extra $, that would be good!

Niklas it looks like FedEx is about $350.00 to get to europe if the box is not oversize. I'm trying to get the size from AA. Otherwise it will have to go some other air freight carrier which I will lok at next week. I have another guy from England that wants to join in.

33 on the Flares!!! Now I need to establish some shipping and handling costs to various regions of the USA and a cost to Europe so that I can collect fair, and enough S&H, from each individual to include in your money order to AA. Members were balking at a $90 charge to each (except Foreign Ship) if they were closer.

Trying to make it so that everyone has a good experience with this buy. I'll do a little more work with AA and George if I have to.

Its tough.

Yes i guess Shipping is an issue to consider, but I would rather have good packaging and no damage then skimp or complain about the shipping costs. Glad we are close.

I still have a few foreign shipment costs that I have to resolve and I can start to request the payments and addresses.

The foreign shipments help to make up the 30 buyers so we are right on the border of having enough.

He said two weeks to run the flares.

As I have said in earlier emails previous Group Buy organizers have said that Money Orders made out to Auto Atlanta and sent to me worked best> I need to guarentee AA that I have a minimum of thirty participants and the first twenty paid before they will start to run the production. Understnad that ther is no way to control this if some people sumit credit cards and some submit money orders, etc....

Help me to keep it simple and organized. I would like the shipping info from all asap so I can determine s&h fees for each based where they are going. I still have to work this out with George so who wanted a standard fee to cover everyone.

I want to make sure all is fair and reasonable so that AA can ship these as accurately and as safe as possible.

can the issue described below be corrected in the next production run?

GT flare mysteries:
im about to get into a flare install and the one thing that i rarely see is the solution for the bottom where that 45 deg angle is. I just cant leave that mis-matched geometry in there. it makes the rocker gap funky. the bottom of current stampings are rounded and don't match the shape of the body.

I see that even teh 911 flare has that flat section that blends to the bottom edge
what happened to our 914 flares? why dont they have that in teh stamping?

How are you switching to 5 lug setup? Adapters? Drilling rotors? It also depends on the offset of the rims. More info would help. I like the phone dials with the flares.

Yup 5 lug set up 15x7 on rear 15x6 on front and going with the metal flares and small trunk spoiler 916 front end-getting a 911sc 3.0 from an 81 with only 70k on it nice engine upgraded chain tensioners well looked after etc+ some header from gt racing Car has no rust and a pristine interior.

George really wants us all to do Money Orders to me which I will collect, record and send to him as a bundle to get him started. Keeps it real simple. He says that Credit Cards and Paypal will require 3% more for charges.

So guys I'm ready!!! I have s&h charges that I will send out tonite to all which will need to be added to the $750 Flares and/or the $100 Rockers. Do not try to add or subtract items without notifying me as the charges were based on what you said you wanted, Flares, or Flares+Rockers, or Rockers only.

This may be a silly question....but I would think that a cashier's check/bank draft made out to AA would also be okay? I think that MO only go up to $600 ... so this might save multiple MOs.

I don't think that Cashiers Checks will be liked by AA as payment can be stopped by the originator. At least from what I read. Not that anyone would ever do that. I was just going by what previous group buy organizers had done.

Now that we have approx 37 flare sets sold that means alot of you guys are gonna know how to set up rims etc spacers/ Adapter etc.
I am gonna need some advice and direction with spacers and rims etc for the flares.
So any info is appreciated ,I purchased phone dials 15x7 for rear and 15x6 for front I am told by a man in the know that" "You will have to go wider than 6" in front regardles of spacers use etc...someone help Im on my own up here and than
this man who owns a few 914 /6 I believ there arre less than 15 914 survivors in the area.
He suggested fuchs and I love fuchs but I thought phone dials would look cool too.
ANy way the Chassis stiffener is going in tomorrow so within the next week or so the 911sc engine is in so this is an agressive schedule I want to keep -oh an before I forget I have been hearing that the starter from the 1.7 will last like a politicians promise anybody know what and where the good starters are-Please advise-Phil

That makes 19 flares buyers paid up. One more and I can have George fire up the die and press to start making the flares. Guys with Rockers only will then be shipped their orders too.

I have sent PM's to all that commited so it would be nice to hear from each that payments are being sent. Thanks to those that have responded that payments will be made. I'll give it till Wednesday and I'll publish a list on this thread of those who have not been in contact with me or responded.

We need everyone to pay up to make a few past thirty as a couple from Europe have dropped out. I have 14 more that have to pay up. Two payments are in transit and three have commited to next week. Need nine left to contact me asap.

This question is not group buy related it is flare related.
I cant contact the people in the know but I'm putting phone dials on and on rear I have a choice of 16 x 8 early or late offset.
The late offset pushes rim 52 mm to the outside giving a deeper look to the phone dial .
The early offset pushes rim to the inside, I hope by choosing late offset I'm not screwing up and with adapter I hope it fits right with the flares.

I believe I am correct in my understanding. If you want a deeper look the earlier lower offset is the wheel you want. That means the mount surface of the wheel is closer to the center of the wheel, pushing the wheel toward the outside of the car. The later offset is higher moving the mounting surface further from center and pushing the wheel toward the inside more.

Sorry about multiple posts - I apparently ride the short bus with you know who when it comes to posting pics.

The only thing I wish is that AA would have packed these nicer. They had a bunch of paper in the box but all the flares were together and the paper was wadded up on top of them. When I repacked them for storage I wrapped each flare and still had enough paper for a bottom box liner and top liner. Box is all sealed up and they should be safe until they are needed.

Of course it would not be proper to install these on my six.... would it?

OH - Sorry about the messy garage, just upgraded an aquarium in my home office and I have stuff all over the garage until the old aquarium goes.

Well Rich yours are going out to you end of next week or??? Not real sure yet as the Money Order you sent me was made out to me when I requested them to be made out to AA. I caught it yesterday when I was getting ready to ship the final set of MO's. So I have to go and get a MO or cashiers check and send it out tomorrow or Monday. AA knows that you have an order waiting so its not their issue at this time.

Others have had their Mo's in for a period of time waiting for us to reach the 30 buyer threshold so please be a little more patient as I take care of this.

I do not believe that AA has your email addresses. I have provided them with a detailed spreadsheet of you name, address and what you bought. We have had only one shipment issue and that was to Europe. We cleared that one up pretty easily.

So if you are receiving a Fedex notification then it may be a scam. On the prior page on this thread I explained that AA made some shipments and are waiting for the next batch to come in for shipments. They should ship next week around the same time as all of the Flares.

Should be done with this in the next couple of weeks.

Just got done speaking to Fedex, the rep informed me that there has been a rash of these spam mailings going out. Also that the attachment is most likely a virus.
As far as AA having your email all I see as possible is that, a prior order or paypal contact may be stored with them. No matter though. I am not even ready to have these installed yet.

Did you read the posts? I said that next shipments would be going out this week and probably time with Rockers shipment if you bought those also. One of us in California has already received their rockers also. So guys should start reporting the receipt of these also.

You were late getting your payment out to me because of some issues and then when I received it, it was made out to me causing me to have to cash it, clear it and take out another Cashiers check from me to AA. AA has confirmed receipt and I am sure your flares and rockers will be on there way to you this week.

I feel bad for guys like TC who sent their payment in very early and were not in the first "draw" of shipments. I would gladly have had him receive mine as I am in no real big hurry to put mine on.

A few guys, Phil Plummer and a guy from 914Club still have to contact AA with some shipment info so that their shipments can be completed.

Otherwise that's it. AA's list checks out with mine and all shipments have happened or will happen this week. Mia at AA really wants to get this done.

The last unrelated order I placed with AA I had to go in and ask if my order was ready as they were late and the problem was they simply never called to let me know it was done..

Tried that this time just to see and got a rude response from behind the counter. The guy actually told me that no one has gotten there flares yet. Unfortunately George was not there, he has always been nice and helpful.

The side surfaces are great, the tops and edges have a few wrinkles and waves... but the welds etc. were going to need work anyway, once fitting begins. From what I've read, the factory flares are not perfect either. It's a case of "some assembly required"...

I'm happy with mine, and looking forward to getting them on. (next year, maybe... Collecting parts for a five lug conversion... )

However the one I dealt with at AA was good but often would not return my inquiries on parts although I ordered an additional $560+ plus in parts over and above the flares the guy would not respond at times for over a week to my requests to add parts to my order and thus an additional 650 went to patrick motor sports and another 200 or so went to pelican

Do a search for AA and you will see that is George's business model, to ignore and not care. I got in on a group buy for flares a few years ago and all went well. I have recently been burned and will never purchase anything from them again even though they are in my back yard. I'm happy for all involved in this group buy that all went well.

AA says that they are waiting for their manufacturer to finish up the order. Be aware that they are also making a stock order for AA. Those six that have received theirs already had them shipped from AA stock.

AA anticipates receiving them in about two weeks and will quickly turn them around upon receipt.

I'll keep everyone informed if the situation changes.

I got my set and even thought they are not a perfect fit on my car with out some fitting they are the same length to fit my car. The set that I got from Getty had one shorter by 1.5 inches when you put then next to each other.

Overall I am very happy with the job from AA on them.

The box from AA with what I assume are my rockers arrived this weekend. I say assume because I haven't open the box yet. I'll do that tonight and see how they look.

They look good except the bottom edge seems to be chipped up a bit and a little irregular. That edge probably won't be visible once on the car but is that typical for these FG rockers? Looks like they would be fairly easy to fix if I did want to clean them up prior to installation. Not a complaint, just curious.

Actually, that seems pretty reasonable to me to do all teh body work. I assume that's not including paint.

$3K seems high but what is the condition of the original panels? Are they being finished to match the existing color? Still I would think $2,500 is more in the ballpark.

It depends on where you go, how "expert" is the installer and what your expectations are of the finished product. It never hurts to get a 2nd or 3rd quote.

Sorry guys I would not expect that anyone would be doing a group buy on the flares for at least another couple of years if at all again. It's a big effort and will take another large group for George to make a big run of flares.
Your best bet might be find someone that participated in the last buy that has decided not install them.
I've a set of GRP flares that i am thinking of selling. I have a set of five flares, that's right, five. Have an extra rear one for some weird reason. Might be talked into parting with these since I have a steel set.

I've contacted the moderator about this problem that I've run into several times before and I've never gotten a response back from the moderator. This is pretty frustrating and that is why I am posting this now. Hopefully a moderator will get back to me and explain what the issue is.
