I loaned the Red Car to sww914 while he's waiting for parts for his boat, and he & and older "gentleman" tried to mate fenders.
Steve is taking care of everything, but he's having a hard time finding an early chrome bumper (the one on the car is one of the ones done by bdstone not too long ago), so if anyone has one, please let me know. Otherwise we'll send mine out to be straightened & re-chromed.
I'm doing my best not to get upset over it, accidents happen, and there's not too much we can do about them. The up-side, is that some of the rust is going to be dealt with (Steve is going above & beyond on that, which is most appreciated), and since they're going to have to do some painting anyway, if I can afford it, I'll get the other rust bubbles dealt with at the same time.
Steve said he's going to take some pics, so maybe he'll post them here.
That sucks but...you have a great attitude and karma will come your way with something special for you. Dont know what it is, but it will be great.
Is there something in the water? There seems to be some kind of attack on 914's lately. Watch out for the other guy fellas!
oh shit. I feel your pain. I have another front bumper that has great chrome but it is a little bent (not the one one my cadaver- its not bent much but chrome is bad under one of the bumperettes). Karma clearly dictates that it is yours for shipping if you want it.
Sorry, Mark.
I'm glad that I'm in a position to make it right for you.
I'll post pictures tomorrow, it's not as bad as Jeep vs 914.
Mine's up on Jack Stands for the next 30 - 60 days so it's safe
It always hurts to hear one get crunched
I just had to go out and look in the garage and check on mine. It's OK so far. Sorry about the car Mark.
Too many drivers distracted with cell phones and texting and Navi's telling them to turn left now. Too many people stressed out over the holidays. These small cars are just under the radar. Should almost have a flag stuck on the bumper like a recumbent bike...
Could someone start a poll of known 914's that got totalled, burned or were scrapped this month? My gosh, must be at least 10 that we know of this month alone. I know this one can be fixed but what the heck is going on?

Driving for 30 years, racing for 12, first crash. Sucks.

Its Because you have Sea Legs
Ooch ! Hope there is good insurance
euro lense/housing, early chrome bumper, early bumper top, body work, paint......
I'm still surprised this car hasn't sold. Wish I had the cash for it, those paint matching mahle wheels look great. This car will only get better after the repairs
No thanks, I think I'll just walk for now.
Stutter strut.
More pics.
OK, got most everything worked out but just had a setback on the bumper. We are in need of a VVVVVVery good early, STRAIGHT, no hole front chrome bumper or a reasonably priced STRAIGHT early chrome bumper that can be re-chromed. If you have one you can send pics to hwgunner at msn dot com. Thanks
It looks like I'll be needing a corner.
Hey Mark,
Check this build thread. I repaired Sandy's car that was worse than that one. I saved the fender. Notice the photo of the ratchet strap going over the top of the right fender pulling back up right. It was layed over sticking out like yours and the end ahead of the park light was peeled open like a sardine can. Show your repair guy the link and he should be able to figure out what I did. Sandys was crushed on both sides and I saved both fenders.

Mine got tagged two years ago by a idiot woman talking on a cellphone and backing up during the holidays. The SUV just smashed the turn signal metal but it still cost $2500 to straighten it out without using bondo.
Yours looks a lot worse but should be able to pull it all out if they try.
The body shop is saying they're going to have to cut out the bent & weld in new. I'm going to go up there today & look at it.
Unfortunately, after looking at the damage, I think this is now a parts car. This really sucks.
Thats really sad news.
These cars really cannot take too much of a hit without bending in all of the wrong places.
After further conversation, they're saying they can pull it out & make it like it never happened. We'll have to see. I'm cautiously optimistic.
That'll buff right out!
Update:
The body & paint came out very nice. Unfortunately, they burned up the Pertronix when they were trying to get the turn signals wired up again. Since they are body guys, and not mechanics, and since the $$ was coming out of their own pocket, it took awhile before they got on it. They had a mech friend look at it last week, and his verdict was they burned up the dizzy. I think he meant they fried the Pertronix again. The body shop owner was going to double-check on that & get back to me.
On the bad side, Steve (sww914) has disappeared. Won't return phone messages, nor emails for the last couple of weeks. It looks like I'm going to be stuck with the remainder of the bill. Very unfortunately, this really bothers me. My faith in my fellow man has taken a serious downturn. I'm hoping the body shop will let me make payments, so I can get the car back & put it back up for sale.
The saga continues......
That Sucks
Another reason nobody drives my cars except for me
Amen to not letting anyone drive your teener. My 28 year old twins have never driven my teener and my wife doesn't drive it either! I am selfish!
The body shop still owes me for the pertronix too.
Call me.
jonathan
FUCH! ... Hate when shit like that happens ...
... hoping there's a plausible explanation and everything all turns out OK.
Sad but if it is true the hard part might be getting him served. Go Small Claims, 10K maximum in CA. Go get the judgment and have it recorded against him. Should be good for 10 years. Send copies to the credit reporting agencies.....
If the 914 people could bail out BR I think this is easy peasy. Steve's a decent person , total lifestyle change, Unfortunate circumstances,
on and on ????
I would donate, maybe getting soft , not sure ?
Of course he has disapeared ...it was a 3 hour tour !!
Mark is Ok too
In a small claims case, the plaintiff is required to serve the defendant with a notice to appear.
Why don't you post a comment on that blog he's got in his sig line. Looks like he posted a few days ago...
Sorry for your misfortune.
Thanks guys. I'm hoping this might get him to contact me again.
I have parts posted for sale in the classifieds if you want to help out. If you need something not listed, PM or email me. I still have a bunch of stuff.
Just checked out www.landfallvoyages.com ... looks like he had enough $ to buy three 190-watt solar panels and bunch of a batteries so's he could make some ice cream
Why not sign up and post your car for sale there? I'm sure it'll get his attention
Nah, his wife is very nice, and his son Eli is a very cool kid.
I was just kidding
I know.
Latest update:
I was told by the body shop that they had a mechanic friend look at the car to see why it wouldn't run. The mechanic told them the dizzy had a broken ground wire, and the coil wasn't putting out enough. I stopped by & pulled the dizzy & had Cap'n Krusty do a rebuild, and stopped by GPR (conveniently across the street) and got a new Pertronix coil to go with the new Pertronix module in the dizzy. Installed both of them yesterday. Turned the key to prime the fuel pump and..... no buzz from the fuel pump. I installed a brand new one a month or so before loaning out the car. Checked all the fuses, shuffled the relays, no joy. Time to replace the fuel pump next week & see if I can't get it to run. I HATE THIS!!!!
When it rains, it pours. I am sorry you are having so much grief especially since you tried to help someone out. Hang in there.
I'm not quite to the end of my rope, but I can see it from where I am.
Ordering a fuel pump for a Kia Rio as we speek!!
Cool! Thanks!
I'm still trying to be kinda nice, in the hopes that his conscience will kick in.
Might want to test for power at the pump before throwing any more money at it.
The Cap'n
I'm in SLO and have a big ol' Creepy Van if you wanna use it in conjunction with a UHaul trailer. The 3/4-ton Chevy Conversion Van sits during the day, so you're welcome to borrow it to tow your teener to the Capn's place. PM me if this will help...
AAA is my friend. But thanks for the offer.
Heard from Steve last week, and now back to no communication, so I think he was blowing smoke again. I got a call from Jonathan at GPR today offering to loan me the $$ to get the car out of the shop. I think I'll take him up on it, and have the car flatbedded to my house, so I can fix what the shop has broken, and get it back up for sale. I'm so burned out on this whole mess.
Mark, So sorry to hear all of this! It sucks!!
I received an email this morning from a friend who found this thread and said it sounded like you guys were threatening to take down our website. That is just sad.
I would ask you all to consider a few things.
Mark did me a huge favor by loaning me his car.
If I were going to screw him I would have done it BEFORE I handed him $3000.00 CASH!
There is no internet available to me out in the middle of the ocean.
I tried to mail him a second check. Unfortunately I had to depend on somebody else to mail it for me because we were in Dana Point and I couldn't get to the post office before we left there, the post office is more than a mile from the harbor and the only dinghy parking was a 1 hour tow away zone. I literally didn't have time, the harbor cops there are insane.
Look at a map and tell me where in the fuck we could have possibly had internet when we were 300 miles south of the border in Mexico. WHERE?
So, I thought that I had it handled before we set off away from civilization, much as I thought that I had it handled before we left the SLO area.
Why don't you think, for just a minute, how it must feel to be me. I borrowed a friend's car and crashed it, the first crash in my life. I payed out a bunch of money to get it fixed by a friend, then I continued with my life. My friend (ex friend?) who owns 1/2 of the shop won't return my calls since they hit me with a bullshit additional damage charge.
Mark's getting fucked and his car is just getting more fucked up by the day.
I'm getting fucked and we're in a strange country and out of money. I paypal'd Mark almost half of this month's income last night.
Mark's car is STILL not finished. It's been 6 fucking months!
I've got you guys suggesting you should fuck with our website, our only potential source of future income if we want to keep cruising. Or destroy our home. Nice.
Mark, you need to check the white ground wires on top of the engine before you buy a fuel pump, it won't run unless they're attached well. Those dumbasses were screwing around up there.
Thanks for the Paypal Steve, I forget that you don't have reception a lot of the time. I'm just so frustrated! Hopefully I'll get the car home next week, and start going thru everything to find out what's wrong. I just want the pump on hand for replacement if it's gone bad. It shouldn't be, but who knows what all has been done to it while they were in there.
This thread has a stench. I'm not sure it was necessary. Yeah, I get the original bummer. But it's a lotta shit flung at sww. I thought he was a stand-up guy??? But I'm just going by history here.
I don't know. I'm just bummed to see this crap.
It's home! It's home! It's home!
Unless we see pictures.......
Honest, he picked it up late this morning, and it left here under its own power. They did a pretty nice job on the nose .................
The Cap'n
I had to come to work ( ), so I didn't get pics yet to post. Tomorrow....
I hope the Whole Situation works out OK for everybody
Note whichever applies,
I got the car home yesterday, thanks to Cap'n Krusty working his magic to get it running again. It sounds like Hamfist (The Cap'ns term) took the relay board cover off, and forgot to put it back on, then washed the car. The Cap'n said he dried the board out and got the relays working again, set the timing, remounted the new coil, and she fires right up. Here's a few pics.
At the body shop when I had the tow truck pick it up.
After I got it home.
Looks like the body shop felt guilty & left me a gift. Too bad I don't drink takillya anymore.
The bumper, hood, eyebrows and headlights are all sitting too low, so I'll need to do some adjusting. Overall the paint & bodywork look pretty good. Unfortunately, it needs new tires, so I'll get it all adjusted, then put the car cover on it until I can afford some new shoes. It's nice to have it home.
Looks great Mark. Glad they were able to repair it.
Hoping the other aspect was repaired as well.
It looks great Mark. Love that color - very uncommon!
Thanks guys.
Mark: Steve is doing the best that he can. My only complaint is about communication, or lack thereof. Accidents happen, there's nothing we can do but accept them & move on. We remain friends & I wish him and his family the best.
Travis: I saw a pic years ago of a prototype that was this color (Metallic Red) and fell in love with it. It turns out this was the original color of Dad's Car, so in honor of him, I painted mine this color. Even tho it's a 72, I backdated the bumpers to 1970, because I like the look, and it's a 1970 only color, so it fits.
I left that tequila there for you as a thank you, I'm surprised that it's still there. I thought it would take a week, not 6 months.
AND, if anyone here wants to talk anymore SHIT about me, they can email me directly at sww914@gmail.com or call my Mexican cellphone at 011-52-1-646-128-96-95
Seriously. Call. If you want to do it face-to-face, I'll be in Ensenada until October when hurricane season is over and we can go back south.
I think it is time for a 914 World group hug. .. . .
Looks like I haven't checked this thread in a while.....
Thanks for the takillya, Steve. I may have to make margaritas in your honor.
I got the headlights/eyebrows/hood adjusted & it looks pretty good.
Sorry for all the drama.
Nice car and happy to see it back on the road.
BTW, can I borrow it for few hours?
