What a great looking car! Where is all the dirt, rodent nests and rust stains? A very luck find. Ray

Stupid question, but... it looks very original and has five-lug wheels, so either it was converted early in its life or that's a SIX!!??????????????

Looks like it has the ignition switch on the column. That, and the VW-Porsche emblem say it's a four. IMO.
Love the color, and the condition is spectacular!

Nice find!!!
Posted by: sixerdon Jan 4 2012, 08:44 AM
Great score!
The primary clues in the pictures is the jack strap location, black bumper and the VW Porsche 914 badge which would make it late '72, or '73? It would be interesting to see the VIN and the different euro details vs US cars.
Enjoy!

You need to go out and buy some lottery tickets while you are still lucky! Wow! Nice find!

That's not a "barn find" but a "time capsule find." Someone really loved that car and took great steps to take care of it for such a long winter's nap.

Is that a repaint, as it appears there is paint over the dealer installed undercoat in the fender well?
OR, if not, WOW AGAIN !

Must be a barn find dirty?
I don't know how long it sat in this barn but the cover at the first look was more than only dusty.
The teener under the cover was in this clean condtion as the pics are shown.
Here any answers to the questions above:
It is a late '72 and a 4
The 5lug conversion was made early with OE 6er rear parts and RS front axle.
The 14er was disassembled for an outer respray.
In the phase of assembling the new paint shows a lot of bubbles and came loose
in the sharp curves at the front fender areas. So the guy lost the interest or
has not the money to fix it. I don't ask him.
This was the reason to store it.
Now his wife put him under pressure to sell the crappy (her opinion)
car in the barn. His lost
my win
He was not really happy with the sale
I'm not sure what I will do with it.
I have any options:
I bring it back to the original 4 condition
I build a tall conversion
I build a GT-Clone
We will see what happend.

Did you get a history or documents on where it was purchased? Is the dealer still in business? They may be interested in having an original parked outside for Oktoberfest 2012. You could barter for old Volswagen banners, oil changes once a year, etc., etc...

Sehr Gut!
Gotta keep checking those barns..

I like the rear bumper that accomodates the wider license plates.
She is a beuty. Consider yourself one lucky guy. Good networking!
I would love to receive a call like that.

Congrats! They are out there. I found mine in a shed with 19K miles on it. But it is all about being in the right place at the right time. The car was dirty, but a little polish and cleaning and this is what I turned it into.
