914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Early fog light Refurb GB

Posted by: Mikey914 Feb 15 2012, 07:15 PM

So, I restored a few of the early fog lights for a project I'm working on, and it dawned on me that this would be a perfect situation for a GB.

I would include a new seal for the glass and new grommet for the wirring.

I would need you to dissassemble the unit and send in only the main body, ring and mounting bracket.

You would recieve a professionally powdercoated assembly in return with a gasket for the glass and a grommet for the wirring. Cost would be $15 per assembly and return shipping at cost USPS priority mail with tracking.

You would get back something that looks like this

The powder is BK-08 Black. And the grommets are a nice tight fit.

ha, I just ordered foglight seals.. I was gonna rattlecan mine.. but if you're going to do them all up nice.. I'm in.

I probably have some spares lying around I can dissect, then assemble the best-of-the-parts.

Posted by: Mikey914 Feb 16 2012, 03:19 AM

I figured that as I was doing some BK-08 I should have some of these done at the same time. If I can get 10 sets it would be worth doing. I figured it would be ince to be able to have these blasted down to the metal and the professionally finished.
the only downside is that if there is a lot of rust, you may want to check to make sure it's not all the way through. Ask me how I know.

Posted by: plas76targa Feb 16 2012, 09:12 AM

Mark, I'd go in for this. I can send a pair of fog light parts, just say when.

I'm in for a set.

I am in for 3 sets, meaning 6 fog lights. just let me know.

Posted by: dem Feb 17 2012, 07:59 AM

Well, that looks like 6 sets are in.. Mark says he needs 10. Anyone else?

Everyone go out and look at the leading edges of your fog lights - you will be mortified by how sand blasted and rusty they are. Then sign up. smile.gif

I'm in for 2 sets

Looks like we are pretty close and this will pan out. I'm thinking that to keep these straight it would be worth scribing initials on the inside on the plate where they will not be coated. Is this ok with everyone?

Also,
The amount of rust on the units will determine the success of the finish, ask me how I know. This was pretty bad to start with, but I'll use some silicone to patch it on mine.

I would ask on these that they be accompanied with a check or money order as to not have any paypal fees as you have to ship these anyhow.
Thx
Mark

I'll have to find them, but I do have a pair of fog lights that would benefit from this smile.gif

Put me down for 1 pair please.

Sorry for the stupid question but the only way to remove the fog light from the car is to cut the harness ?

Posted by: 914werke Feb 17 2012, 04:46 PM

No you have to remove the lenses and unscrew the wire posts

You are correct. The top picture is the finised parts. I need only those, any other small parts may be lost. You have to dissassemble to to replace the seals, now you can re-assemble with powdercoated parts.

Jeff yes it will be open to the end of the month, it's a go. Easiest to just drop a check in with the units $15 per light + whatever you paid to ship them to me, that way no paypal fees, you need to ship them anyhow and I can track payments.
-Mark
PS please send dissasembled.

Calkins - 2 housings and 2rings + 2 bases
Lui- 4 housings and 4 rings +4 bases
Jentz and Meridith 4 housings and 4 rings
Plasket-2 housings and 2rings
Mitsch2 housings and 2rings + 2 bases
Harmon 2 housings and 2rings

20 unist - going in tomorrow - should be ready in about a week.
