914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Gauging compliance sticker interest

Posted by: Socalandy Feb 15 2012, 11:05 PM

Just trying to get some numbers for my source that will do the cutting. I can only speculate price until I hear form Rory on the higher quality tamper style decals as I'm sure it will run a bit more than whats currently availible. ballpark $60- $70

Here's the original post that started this...

there are -4 and -6 stickers currently availible but the -4 is only in black I think. Rory is still working the tamper proof die cut sticker repro. and is aware of the variations.

Posted by: Bullethead Feb 16 2012, 09:36 PM

I'm in for two -6 versions.

Thanks for doing this.

i have a couple of these

Posted by: burton73 Feb 17 2012, 11:03 AM

One for my 6. I have 2 crapy blanks from AA for your test if you need them.

Bob

Posted by: rudedude Feb 17 2012, 03:06 PM

911S registry has nice repros for the 911 but the hard part is punching those tiny little holes and then the tamper proof circles.
Do you have a way to do this?
If so I would need a couple for 914/4 and 914/6, and if you didn't make the 911 sticker would you punch one of those for a price?
Thanks,
Jule

Any updates? Also, what is the site for the 911 ones? I have a friend that needs one for his tail dragger!

Posted by: Comanchepilot Mar 5 2012, 12:25 PM

I'm in for 1 for my /4.

Posted by: stuttgart46 Mar 5 2012, 12:46 PM

I said 2 because I figured I would screw the first one up applying it.

Posted by: Socalandy Mar 5 2012, 06:10 PM

UPDATE!!

Rory found Bob Moglia in the Early 911 group that reproduced the 911 sticker that is the same as the 914-6 . I just received some today and the quality is very good. Some pictures below of his lable and yes the corners will need to be rounded off. Notice that the silver background has the silver flake appearance shades.gif

Rory is working with the die cutter and I will cut a few on these labels. Bob is willing to reproduce the other -4 stickers but he wants numbers to see if we have enough demand. He charges $10 , so if you have not answered the poll I setup please do ASAP .

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=168376&hl=sticker+poll

some clear closup pics of -4 stickers would be great so I can send to him when the time comes. My -4 has one but its not picture worthy.

Thanks

Thank you for doing this!

One for my 76.

Posted by: toolguy Mar 7 2012, 07:49 AM

One for a 70 six, please

Posted by: Socalandy Mar 14 2012, 10:52 PM

So were getting very close, need to tighten up the numbers a bit. The seven on the build date was not a mistake but my friend matched the picture perfectly with the factory flaw. The power was a bit high for the vinyl so some tweaking there too.

second pic is decal applied to painted pannel. Die cutting is the last hurdle and then we can get this going and start taking orders. It's tidious work setting these up blink.gif but it will be worth it!!!

Wow! That is looking terrific already. This is a wonderful service to our community. Thank you for tackling this project.

Posted by: rick 918-S Mar 15 2012, 07:36 AM

Hey Andy, If you have a compliance sticker that has not been pulled yet but you would like to replace it, if you provide a photo can your guy match it like he did yours? My thought is there may be some differences in the numbers from year to year.

I may be incorrect but it is my understanding these are US only stickers possibly dealer installed. So were they punched and installed at the dealership or did they come over with the car?

If they were punched at the dealership there may be a difference in the numbers or location. confused24.gif

yes, we can create another project in the program for a possible difference in font, it just takes time to setup at test.

Posted by: robmog Mar 19 2012, 04:11 PM

I've seen both types of # 7 on the 911, although the one shown i've only seen on post my 74.

Posted by: gothspeed Mar 19 2012, 06:07 PM

They look awesome smile.gif !!! I may need 2 just because they look so cool!!!

Since my sticker is MIA, how does one determine the month/year of manufacture? .... (my model is 1973)

Posted by: beech4rd Mar 19 2012, 06:59 PM

Please put me down for two.

Chris

So we got the font size correct and looks dead on. the lower sticker is the final font tweak and you can see the improvment I hope??

Comments welcome!! I will be starting and order thread soon . Die cutting is a delicate process and after some tests with my jig getting a clean peel to apply a complete sticker afterwords was tough. For now it will be stickers without the die cutting due to the difficulty. I will check with Rory on how he is doing on this piece

Andy, to my eyes the second example looks ready to go. Any news on when you'll get the time to be ready for orders?

I know you're restoring your six these days and I'm just amazed at your productivity. Makes me feel like a lazy slug!

The holes look a little big on the punches.

Are they not going to have the anti peal embossing?

Posted by: GeorgeRud May 24 2012, 09:11 PM

Best looking ones I've seen. Even without the anti-tampering rings, it looks great.

These are great, but has anyone found a way to recreate the security circles which cover the wee beasties?

Posted by: Socalandy Jul 31 2012, 10:20 PM

still working on the security circles, It may come down to just punching the VIN data only and leave the the circles to those who purchase them. So many things to go wrong like separation before it can be applied and burn thru a lot of decals.

I hope to make on decision on this in a few weeks and open up the order thread. Thanks for your patience

Posted by: Socalandy Nov 10 2012, 08:35 PM

decked them and then time to sharpen a bit. Left myself some length so as it dulls I can deck it again and re-sharpen.

Now to find my stash of vinyl to test how much pressure is required idea.gif

Posted by: Socalandy Nov 10 2012, 09:06 PM

not a bad result but I need to sharpen it little bit more and add a bit more pressure but I think it will work great for those that want them

Hey Andy,

I saw in the thread's pix that the blank label has square corners, but my original sticker is rounded in the same way as the silver line border edge with round corners - but just a few mm's out. Maybe you could use the semi-circle punches for the anti-tamper cuts to do each corner to get it exactly as original with rounded corners?

It looks like the early silver ones were rounded corners too, from the pix of original VIN labels in this post.

Here is mine & a pic of the repro one which you posted above for comparison, so you can see what I mean.

My original VIN sticker in black over the original L80E (COA & physical evidence on car verifies Light Ivory), & under the 3 repaints (Sahara Beige or tinted primer pre-11/75 both by PO/OO or dealer, Gold met. pre-11/75, L99K Copper met. 8/76 by me, & dark grey/Anthracite met. 5/80 by me) - which were carefully lifted off the sticker with acetone & Q-tips/sof cloths last year....

Also, can you please post the link to the buy thread here? confused24.gif

I searched in Member Vendors, Parts FS & Garage, but can't find it - even though I recall seeing it before with your link to get to the PDF form online.

Thanks

Posted by: robmog Dec 1 2012, 09:58 AM

Re square corners:
The sticker is meant to be trimmed to a 1/16" border with rounded corners.
This is intentional as the printer would have charged alot more money for post printing trimming. I wanted to keep the price reasonable and inspire the crafty person in all of us.

Posted by: robmog Dec 17 2012, 11:40 AM

the new 914 stickers are done and available in black or silver.
sorry for the blurry picture they came out very nice.
