Not to be totally insensitive here but is there going to be a parts sale somewhere? I'm sure there's going be a couple of motors, maybe some suspension parts, etc.

GAF was nice if you like that sort of thing. So many beautiful cars in one place was overwhelming. Too bad most of them never get driven, but it is neat how they get armorall in the tire grooves. Think there was a seminar on that and truly sorry I missed it.

At least they'll look beautiful in their coffins. Lesson? Use it or lose it.

Looks like Frankensteen just jumped up in value.....

If ya look closely, there is a 911 there in the mix.

That intersection is a mess....there are confusing signs, stops on TWO corners where there should be four.....morons that shouldn't be driving and a train station right in the same area.

Just goes to show....driving your P-car is safer than shipping. The wierd part was...it was an open low budget carrier.....ya woulda thunk they woulda used a more classy ENCLOSED shipper.

These cars will not be salvage titled, they will be sold only after full restorations.... trust me.

These things won't change hands on paper til they shine like diamonds again.

not so sure about that... sounds like they were all on consignment by the owners and if they had agreed value coverage like most collector cars do, I bet the most of the owners walk away.

In CA, if the insurance buys you out of the car, i.e., pays you the agreed value, even if you negotiate to keep the car, it becomes a salvage title car. For example, if your car is stolen and carefully stripped, and you file a claim which exceeds the value of the car (in the opinion of the ins co), they pay you and it becomes salvage, damaged or not. If they pay to fix it, then it MAY remain clear of the salvage title cloud, but they have the option of listing the car as wrecked and rebuilt. Even if the negotiated value on that black car is $75K, IMO the cost of repair is likely to be far higher, leaving the owner holding the bag. The Cap'n

You can fix anything... but why...? Any of the cars that end up repaired will most likely become even more valuable because of the story that will travel with the car.

It's pretty damn tragic if you ask me. 356 Speedster production numbers were never huge to begin with, and these were some pristine examples from what I briefly saw.

I agree that we will at least see these "VIN's" again, with salvage titles. I hope for the owners' sake that they were well-insured as even the "highly affluent" can't just swallow $50-100K over a weekend without flinching. If they were owned by some truly rich f'er, well then, I don't feel quite so sorry for them but still just as sorry for the loss of the cars

Keep in mind that a concours steering wheel or bumper on these cars is worth more than many of us paid for our 914's.

That said, I don't see how the carrier driver couldn't be at least half responsible, and I betcha the carrier firm (if a commercial contractor) eats a lot of the damages. It's hard to imagine a professional driver getting into this kind of predicament.

Not to mention those chrome-plated wheels with the Rudge-type center "knock offs" on the black speedster that are probably worth somewhere between 15 and 20 thousand dollars.

What a catatastrophe! The black speedster with Rudge wheels was a beauty. I drooled over it at the show. It wasn't a 4-cam car, thank goodness. With the price of Speedsters these days I do believe they will be restored. I've seen a picture of an early Gmund coupe, wrecked worse than this in a race, which had been restored to like new. Still, I'm sick over this.


Glad my 356 is safe and garaged.

Yeah nice cars....but I can't really turn on the tears for a bunch of garage queens that get 10 miles a year put on them.

$700 concours for a 356 steering wheel. Just put one on for a customer on his 59' cab. Nice car, spendy wheel, but very nice. He drives his too, not a garage queen and not trailered. He drove it from WA to CA for a 356 thing his summer. Loved and said the car did great.
