2080 LBS

920 LBS Front - 44%
1160 lbs Rear - 56%

Wowza! How in the world did you do that?

Thats alot of weight loss.... Good job!

Posted by: TimT Sep 13 2004, 05:37 PM

My tub is a '75..... maybe, like with the 911's the early tubs are lighter

The p/o of my car told me it weighed a touch over 2000, however, on the scales I use it weighs a touch over 2200.. Ive corner balanced it twice since Ive owned it, using the same scles... and it consistently weighs the same (plus minus a few lbs for fluids)

I wonder how 2 sets of Longacre, or Intercomp scales compare? Ive been at a club race where stock guys were screaming because the scruts scales didnt read the same as the scales their set-up guys used..

Must be pretty serious about weigh reduction to consider removing that to save a few ounces.

I know Colin Chapman of Lotus was a fanatic about weight reduction but I don't think he ever asked that much of his drivers!

The '75-'76 is the heaviest car, by a good margin. The '70-'71 cars are a lot lighter. No side-impact beams in the doors, no reinforcement for the 5mph bumpers. Maybe other things, too. Certainly a lot less sound insulation. Less than 2100lbs with a Six is pretty good.

Heh, my doors are getting a makeover soon.. I have the doorskins Paul made fro me ready to install...

Just a few more track days left

Yeah, that's really good. My '70 914-6 weighed 2200lbs according to the CAT scales back when it was still a 3.0 with the 40IDTs. That's with FG bumpers. FM Oil cooler, but everything else stock (weight wise at least). How much weight does getting the trunks done in FG save? 30lbs a piece? more?

Posted by: brant Sep 14 2004, 08:43 AM

Good job Eddie,

thats a good weight and encouraging to hear.

-how much do you think the FG fenders save?
-Are the FG fenders both front and rear?
(must be for those big tires)
-do you still have the front fresh air ventilation system,
wiring, and headlights?

thanks for your time!

As I recall, each trunk lid was about 30lbs, and the FG replacements I had five years ago were about 10lbs each. Figure 40lbs overall, maybe more if you use very lightweight bits.

The front fenders are attached with Dzus fasteners. I cut away all the OEM fenders with a plasma cutter.

The hood and deck are very light. Made from coremat with no internal frame. No hinges, only mounting clips and hood pins.

I use the original fog lights as headlights (a handful of fireflies in a pickle jar might be brighter). OEM headlights are gone but I have not removed the buckets yet.

I still have the fresh air system with fan. Very nice to have here is rainy Seattle

The rear fenders are FG bonded on to the original steel by the prior owner. Nicely done but a lot more steel could have been cut away.
