I have been talking with Mark (Mikey914) about making the NLA E-brake cable boot p/n 914 424 592 00. Would anyone else be interested in a new pair of boots?
Mark would be making the parts. He told me a rough turnaround would be 4-6 weeks for the mold and the first parts.
This would be an exclusive run at my request. I would be selling/shipping the boots to you.
Here is a picture of the boot. Most are either torn, broken, paint spattered, brittle or missing all together.
A separate GB thread will be created in 3 weeks. Keep signing up to reserve a pair for you!
One set here
So that makes you the "middleman'?
Yuuuup! 1 set please
Would want a set. Curious, why the middleman. Wouldn't Mark just add them to his line?
I'm in for 1 pair
2 sets please. Thanks mark
One set for me, too, Carrie. Thanks for doing this!
I am down for a couple sets.
I'm in for a set!
Two sets
1set if your markup isn't too high
One set for me.
I need a set of those too.
I would be in for at least one set, maybe two. Any idea on a esitmated price for a set?
I'm in for a set. While we are there, how about replacing the heater cable boots too...
What about us longsuffering owners of the REAL 14s....the ones without tits, rubber bumpers, etc etc....
Sure, leave us scrounging around for ebrake covers, and cater to the younger crowd
Just a friendly plug for the early, short rubbers (the ones with a kink in them) for those more challenged
I will need to go check my stash, but I am 99% certain that I bought a set of these from Eric/PMB Performance last year when I bought new cables. Are you sure that they are NLA?
Correction: they are included in the full cable assemblies that I bought from Eric, at a very reasonable price, I might add.
#34 on this page says they are nla and it looks like they are the same for all years. The repro there is $9.50

I'm in for 5 sets.........would be nice if you could go ahead and make the outer end #914 424 591 00 as well.......I would be in for the same amount of those. I am sure they would be better than the bicycle shop pieces i am using now....... Jerry
Please put me down for a pair of boots, too.
Chris
one please, thanks
Need outers as Jerry mentions.
Two sets please.
My previous post
Lots a mea culpas...
Should have read the thread thru, would've realized this item is NOT what I had been hunting for.
But I probably need it even more than the elusive cosmetic piece.
Might you put me down for 2 pair...
I'm in for a set.
1 set.

1 set please
Here's an update for everyone.
I have figured out how to get the boot off without damaging the NLA parts.
I need to pickup a Aircraft quality swagging tool & cable cutter. It looks like they'll have to be ordered from Aircraft Spruce.
Yes, for a Big Aviation Town you can't get this local.
Carrie,
You may wish to detail the disassembly and re-assembly to help those that will be changing these out later.
Resurrecting from the dead.
The problem I ran into X time back was how to get the NLA boot off the NLA cable without damaging it or the boot.
My choices are:
1) Pick a Swag end and cut it off
2) Get really, really creative and make the cable & boot slicker than cow slobber and get the boot off that way.
Issues:
1) Finding a replacement swag fitting. Expecting people to learn how to swag at aircraft levels and buy the appropriate tools. Cable will also be critically too short.
2)Bust the fingers and perhaps the boot ~stay tuned I going to try this afternoon
This is where I am. I will be playing with various lubricants to get the boot off than back on. So if you're still interested go ahead and post to this thread.
If I am successful, yes reproduction will go forward at more of a rapid pace.
Try glycerin from the local pharmacy. Rubber is happy with it.
I'd be in for 2 sets.
-John
i'm in for 2 sets.
I set Please
I'd like 2 sets.
Thanks,
Chris
I'm in for a couple of sets
I could use a set or two, how much money?
Add me for a set or two as well.
Boot is on its way to Mikey.
I will know about pricing in about 1 week or so.
It looks like the last week of August or 1st week of September is when I'll have the boots.
Keep signing up to reserve a pair!
An actual GB thread will be created in 3 weeks. I'll require money in about 4 weeks.
I was looking for these recently and could not find them anywhere, so I would be in for a pair also.
Tom
I will take two -please let me know when available.
I could use two sets if these will be ready soon.
I am in for 2 as well.
Hi Carrie,
Thanks for doing these.
I will need 2 sets.
Update-
We're looking at doing them with injection molding. Mikey's hoping to get a quote back by the end of the week.
Skinny on injection molding pros:
More parts produced per mold (100p vs 1000p)
Less rubber used (less cost on rubber/less time used/less cost)
Quicker turn around time
Skinny on injection molding cons:
Expensive to make the mold
More expensive for machine time.
I'm in for 2
Just wanted to update everyone on where we are in the process.
Mikey and I are going to look at all the quotes for injection molding the boots and come to a decision based on the information contained in the quotes.
The longest "waste" time period in this was getting the quotes from the various injection molding manufacturers, but I anticipate things moving a bit faster after a manufacturer has been chosen.
By going the injection molding route, this lowers the overall tooling cost per boot, substantially lowers the rubber cost per boot (less waste) and more boots can be made to tighter specs.
Don't worry, it still looks like these boots will be available for Christmas.
I'll take a set also if you can add them.
Added
Please add me for two sets (4 total)
Please put me down for one set.
Thanks,
Chris
I'd like a couple of sets.
Are you still going to do a group buy thread?
i'll take a set

I need for two cars.
These will be finalized this week. The project has been drawn out, but it's coming together finally. Thanks for your patience.
Here we go again....
Two, Please
I will take two sets if the price is reasonable.
need it
I would take 3 sets
I'd be up for 2 cars worth. pm me with price and I'll combine payments w/ headlight bushing order. You could combine shipping, too. Not in any rush for the parts.
I want a set, as well as the vc gaskets if still available.
PM me with info.
Pat
Just wanted to make sure I was still on the list. need one set.
Thanks for your patience on these. I'm finally getting these moving. Had some issues with a guy who was going to do these for me, but wound up just taking care of these myself. I have to finish the drawings for the tooling on these. The parts are still a ways out, but they shoul dbe ready to ship in about 6-8 weeks. For those of you that know me, it may take awhile to get some things but they are usually worth a little wait.
I'll get pictures posted as soon as I have the 1st prototype ready with production to follow.
I'll take a set
Everyone is still on the list. What Mark said.
I will announce the GB about when I see the part. I will require some prepay to get the first run of boots out the front door.
If I didn't speak up before, I'll need at least one (set?).
One (set?) also.
Olin
I take 2 sets if can can mail them to Sweden.
Niklas
Count me in for a set.
Thanks
Proto tooling is done, it'll be a few weeks until the production run is ready to go. This was a new process for me, so it took me a bit to get these right. I'll have parts to carrie 15 days or so.
These are going to Carrie tomorrow.

GB Here: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=198197
Please note the special instructions if you want to pay be cash, check or need to ship out of the USA.
I guess no one is interested.
Everything is done and the boots are made. What happened to everyone that was interested in the first place? I only went ahead because of the sheer amount of positive interest.
I paid, now just waiting to get them...
Payment made, Thanks
Tooling was expensive, and the number we had to make was large, so I helped Carrie out with these an held some of the inventory to make it viable.
This was a part she was committed to making and is not a hugely commercial part that most 914 guys will probaly live without.
Have these shipped out yet ? One of my customers purchased a set of these for his car that is leaving here soon. It would be nice to be able to get the boots prior to pickup, rather then ship them to him later
I shipped these to Carrie on the 7th, looks like she just got them yesterday, so I suspect they are just going out. Not quite sure why it took so long, but maybe it has something to do with the volume of shipping for the holidays?
Anyhow, these should be in her hand now.
-Mark
All orders for boots shipped out Tuesday. Scotty pm me the name and send you the tracking info.
got my order today. thank you for the certificate and the extra hardware.
Me too. And just in time. Put in the new ebrake cables yesterday, rotors and discs going on tomorrow.
Thanks, Carrie
Calipers.
Looking forward to receiving the boots; anything I should know when installing ?
I am so sorry this has happened. I just found out that PP never informed me that you ordered and paid for these parts. Something in their system didn't work right. As we all know, stuff like this happens. I could have gotten these parts to you a long time ago if you told me that you ordered & paid for these parts.
Your parts are going out tonight, tracking # sent to your PP email addy.
Again, I am so sorry. We're all dependent on technology that sometimes don't work right. That why multiple lines communication helps correct things.
