914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 9:14 Frühstück Sept 25 – IHOP Santa Clara

Posted by: Jeff Bowlsby Sep 17 2004, 01:15 PM

Join us for the traditional IHOP breakfast in Santa Clara. If you have been to these before you know it’s a casual time to hang with the 914 buddies. Bring your square car or come out to admire the others that show up…but be there.

9:14am @ the IHOP @ Stevens Creek at Highway 280 in Santa Clara, CA

!ACHTUNG! 9:14 BREAKFAST CHAIRMAN WANTED: Time to change the guard in 2005. The 914Club needs new blood to coordinate these monthly Bay Area 9:14 breakfasts if they are to continue next year. I have had the great privilege of coordinating them for the last few years and I imagine there are better ways they could be done to keep them exciting. There are new places to explore, better food to taste, and fresh ideas to try to keep it alive. Just identify the location, post the details and see who shows up, it is always a great time. Not that much effort really, I just need to be a participant for awhile and not the fearless leader…I hope that you have enjoyed our past 914 breakfasts enough to want them to continue enough to get involved. I will plan the October 2004 breakfast, then we traditionally take off November and December for the holidays, so the new leader can take the helm beginning January 2004, or sooner! I nominate everyone from the Bay Area with a dedicated 914 affliction. Let me know your interest right away for a smooth transition. bowlsby@sbcglobal.net

I'll bring my 914 that I just happened to ugly last friday. No comments on my f'd up front bumper, or I'll take my pancakes and eat them somewhere else. <_<

whoa, jenny!

you need to tell us more than just that. what happened?

Posted by: Jenny Sep 21 2004, 10:47 AM

I hate Palo Alto, and all the cars that park alongside El Camino Real just outside of the Olive Garden.

I somewhat T-boned a '95 Audi A6 while trying to pull out of the parking lot. View is completely obscured by all the cars parallel parked along the side. Brian says I should talk to the city about it. I know it's my bad, but I may still talk to the city.

Bad news is this could mean a lot out of pocket if I pay to get the A6 prettied up. And if I claim it, my premium will sky rocket. Good news is I didn't mess up my car too bad. Just the front bumper and driver side turn signal lens. Speaking of which, does anyone have a euro lens they're willing to part with?

Jen

I'll try to make it

Oh well. It's all repairable. Glad no one was hurt.

ohhh, i'm really sorry to hear about that jenny... here's hoping the outcome isn't too bad.

i can't even count how many near-hits i've had in Palo Alto because of the parked cars on the side of the road.

Posted by: carreraguy Sep 21 2004, 12:09 PM

I'm planning on attending.

What a bummer Jenny! I got rear ended in my Beemer on 880 last Wednesday - luckily just a few strains! The main thing is that we both are still in good health!

I seem to be taking a few hits here ... nothing like having friends AND a daughter take some swipes while I'm away from the machine. Sheesh.

Mer is free to go to the b'fast if she wants to. She's got a car and is fully capable of attending. Of course, her mother and I'd never approve of the crowd she'd be hanging around with ... <_<

I didn't take ANY swipes at you this time! I was going to, but I figured I've done it enough in the past few weeks and you deserve a little break. What a good daughter, right?

And I was just about to take another swipe, but I stopped myself again. Restraint is hard. biggrin.gif

Sounds like the Time Out chair is going to be warmed up REAL soon...LOL

Do parents "ground" kids these days ??

B

Posted by: davidcalvin Sep 21 2004, 11:26 PM

when I was a kid.. we didnt get grounded. We got _stomped_ into the ground.

Things shore have changed since then!

Posted by: Meredith Sep 21 2004, 11:27 PM

Why do I get the time out chair?! I was being good!

Now let's just say that I did something wrong (which I never would). My parents might not ground me, but they might take away car privileges. So IF I ever do something wrong (which I won't because I'm perfect, of course) that might be a way to ground me without actually grounding me. Not that I have experience with that, or anything.

I swear it made sense in my head.

I won't be at this one. Got some electric drag races in Woodburn Oregon this weekend.
I'll be taking the teener, chasing a new 192V record, if I can just finish the new trailer 5000 lb hitch on the stretch and bum a trailer from someone.....

Hope you all have a great time!

I'm on a plane bound for Singapore....the one week a month living in Asia sure comes around fast...

Let's see...don't see the wife...don't see the kids...can't go to the breakfast...no 914 running...

Someone take pics and post so that I have something to look at when I log into the site from Asia next week.

Brad, to answer your question....Parents dont ground kids (at least teen agers) anymore... Its more of..

Im going to take this away, You cant do this.. Im going to sell your car...

I've actually gotten the "your not going to drive your car, so I know you'll sell it..." from my mom talking to a friend of hers.... I swear she has no clue.... I've also gotten, the "IF you bla bla bla, Im going to take your car away from you and sell it!"

When in fact, I have bought it completely with my money... every cent in it is mine...

eh.. That woman talks to her the sound of her voice....

Andrew

Posted by: nine14cats Sep 22 2004, 01:04 AM

What did Birgit get?

Do you need the wing before I leave? Or the 915? I'm available through Friday night to make runs...

Trekkor stops by tomorrow to pick up his new PMS crossbar mount...

B

I appreciate that Brad.

Lately the rear end has been feeling a bit like a rubber band under hard acceleration. (which is basically every light the way I drive)
I suspect something has cracked but I haven't been able to find it. I even see some minor rubs from the inside of the tire on the frame. Something must be moving at least a half inch, sorry, 13mm! Anyway, the wheels seem to be staying on for now. laugh.gif

Hmmm,

If someone has some relatively narrow 4 bolt wheels with sticky tires I would love to borrow them for a week or two.

I can pull a 1.8 second 60' time if the track is well prepped, which is pretty good, but Woodburn is not a well prepped track. A bit backwoodsy.

I'd even be up to buying some AX tires and wheels for future use if someone has some that will fit under my stock fenders. After all, I figure I'm going to want them for WCC 2005. driving.gif

Posted by: Brad Roberts Sep 22 2004, 01:08 AM

I'll stop by and get the wing and tranny. I want to at least get started on the tranny.

Birgit picked up a 73 2.0 last Thursday. She AutoX'd it this past weekend for the first time. I'm pretty sure she will drive it to the breakfast. It is already "setup" for AutoX and TT (the setup actually sucks) but the parts are good. I have to make some serious changes to get the car planted firmly. It belonged to Litko Chan. He runs a 944Turbo now... she almost beat him at Marina (comparing times...LOL)

B

Posted by: Brad Roberts Sep 22 2004, 01:11 AM

Otmar,

you cracked the inside control arm ear. Your described the feeling to a TEE. Be VERY careful. I dont want you to put that thing into the guardrail when the control arm breaks free. You have to put some sort of lever on the end of the control arm and try to move it away from the chassis while somebody watches the inner ear. You could have also broken the rubber bushings in the control arm (inside)...

B

Posted by: nine14cats Sep 22 2004, 01:12 AM

Right on! Take a pic of here new ride if she drives it and say hello for Doris and me. Next year should be fun at the auto-x's and TT's, especially if we get the motorhome.... rolleyes.gif

I'll pull the wing off of the car tomorrow and have it ready for you, unless you don't need it until I get back on October 1st.

Lets get the tranny. I shot some pics of her driving it at Marina... but it was her camera. I'll install a 27mm Smart bar this weekend for her. They had a 19mm bar fully maxed out and the nose of the car so far down it had NO front suspension movement. I raised it and made some shock changes AFTER seeing how tail happy the car was at Marina on the Kuhmo's. It came with two sets of tires.. one set of Panosports with Hoosiers and one set of 2.0 Fuchs with Kuhmo's.

Jenny,
Sorry to hear that. A couple of months ago my stepson ran into a car with MY van. I paid (out of pocket) Yeaman Auto Body 650-328-8169 to fix the damaged car. At least it was good to meet Scott at the WCC a week prior to the accident!

Yup. When I asked her where she was getting an estimate, and she said "I don't know, maybe the dealership, since I don't know any other places..." I whipped out my handy palm pilot and gave her Scott's info. She still hasn't called me yet... I'm getting worried. unsure.gif
