I just finished up the rust repair on a car for a member. Thought ya'll might like to see. This car had a rusted out motor mount. I've seen rust behind the motor mounts on both six cylinder conversions where we removed the 4 cylinder mounts. I'm pretty sure that a good number of cars have rust behind the mounts. Not a big deal usually but this car the rust had come through the mount and left a gaping hole. So it had to go.
Here is the area once the engine shelf and the motor mount had been removed.
There were three areas that needed attention on this car. Nice clean cuts are the key to a nice repair. Rust converter was applied liberally and then weld through primer.
Zap Zap Zap. Everything is in place. Used a mount bar to make sure the mount went in the right place.
Now comes the battery tray. This baby is welded in TIGHT!
And finally comes paint!!! The car already had pretty nice paint, so we just did the affected area.
Another car DONE! Who's next!

Mark is currently doing the restoration work on my 73' 1.7. The car had sat for 12 years with blankets on it in the weather with the predictible results. Mark repaired the rust damage including a masterful hell hole repair. Several layers of paint were removed, different colors from po's taste, the car will be painted by Mark and Brandon its original Zambezi green. Mark is also a very experienced and skilled mechanic. he is doing a clutch job, rebuilding all calipers, upgrading cables, brakelines and will do the rebuild upgrade on my motor when the time comes. I highly reccomend any club member who is thinking about getting some work done to contact Mark he knows his stuff! I'll get some pics posted of the progress if anyone is interested, Mark has a website with some photos of the work on my car. Thes guys are fantastic!
I agree...I will be dropping my car off to them at the end of the month for an interior, engine bay, underside, and truck spray in Guards Red. I can't wait.

Here's a picture of one of the sheet metal pieces I had to fabricate from scratch. It's the piece that goes behind the motor mount. There is three layers of metal there. I had to stretch the metal to get the bulge, then cut the bulge in half and shrink half of it back flat and then bend the lower piece into place. Leaves that nice cutout for the motor mount.

Here it is in place. It's a little rough but it's completely hidden from view by the motor mount/engine shelf/battery tray so I wasn't going to make him pay for me to make it pretty.

I visited Mark, today in Napa to help continue the restoration project of my car. The dash was removed, to send to Dr. Evil for some recovering, other parts removed for touch up cleaning. This project is really coming along, should be painted its original Zambezi later this week, then all the new seals get installed, Mark will have rebuilt the brake system, installed new clutch and resealed the engine and tranny. I have attached some photos of how it looks today, I'll repost pics after paint and as the restoration goes along. Mark is a 914 wizard, Brandon is a Rembrandt with a spray gun! I am very excited about getting this car on the road. I also rode in Mark's car, 2056, he built, torque on demand! head snap in the headrest, I haven't had that in a 914 in quite a while.
