Ah yes, The joys of a project coming to life..

As always, there are little things to do (like hook up the alternator.. lol)

We've got video... Not very exciting, except for the stalling, grinding, and wierd noises laugh.gif

Back from the test drive (round the block 2 times.. woop de do..) the temp was reading under 190 (like 175 or so.. cant tell with the guage we have)

Well while waiting for dad to come home from doing something I figured I didnt want my cool body pieces to look ugly, so I decided to sand em a little and paint them. Soooo

Heres the results..
Opinions?

The rear end settled after we drove it.. still to low..

Oh ya, added MO30 (944 turbo) threaded colar thingy's as spacers/ colars.. Werks fine with a little duck tape to take up the slack! See how long they last till I order some 180's..

Thanks trekkor
I'll take pics tomorrow if the weather was as nice tomorrow as it was today (good overcast)

Are you going to get rid of the side markers before you paint? And what color are you gonna go with?

Now that its on the road, can you give a total of what it cost?

It doesnt sound to hot though... Im running through the exhaust that Steve used to smog his v8.... Just cut off the tip (lol) for a little extra.

It sounds like a stock truck... with alot of engine noise laugh.gif

Well aaron, you also dont like my flares.

I think your just like my mom... You wont like it till its all painted and perfect.

Looks like my throttle cable is coming from PP... via online (thanks dad)

So... Since its via online I'll figure 3 weeks for it to get here... Oh well.

Posted by: Andyrew Sep 20 2004, 04:38 PM

Oh ya,

Factory Phoenix red...

ie the stock color.. (orange)

Not enough orange cars...

Posted by: shoguneagle Sep 21 2004, 04:08 AM

Car looks great. Glad to see the parts are being put to good use. You are right, the triangle was build with the idea of air crossing over the surface would draw the air through the cavity ala venturi type thus eliminating possible reverse high pressure cavity air.

Great job!!! Now, when do I get to drive it?? HA! HA! Just kidding.

Are you going to bring it to the next 914 Breakfast??

How about a summary rundown on the different problems you encountered? I am to lazy to read the threads again.

Great job.

Steve Hurt

Posted by: red914 Sep 21 2004, 08:26 AM

dude! it looks awesome! from the airflow hood scoop to the super kewl rear flares, it just plain RAWKS! wish i could see it in action. the combo front sc flares and rear flares is sweet. and orange (or phoenix red) will be a great color. not many cars can pull off orange, but ours can.

if you want to post more pictures, we'll look at them and drool!

Posted by: Andyrew Sep 21 2004, 10:11 AM

First thing. the front flares are NOT SC flares, there hand shaped.. (ie I beat the lip out, and it made a little crease you see. 2 hours each)

the rears are hand shaped as well (40 hours each.. lol)

Steve.. I'll do that one later.

Posted by: Mueller Sep 21 2004, 04:44 PM

congrats Andyrew smilie_pokal.gif

interesting aerodynamics on the hood...did you do some experiments to come up with that design???

are you going to cover the hole with some type of mesh or screen ???

have you thought of adding vents such as these on the Vector??

I did not make that hood.. But I will finish it...

Steve (shotguneagle) made it.

I will put a mesh grill on it later on, but picking one that does not detract from the flow will be hard.

The theory behind the hood is really good... And from the 30 mph drive that I tested it in, it looks like it works really good... But we've yet to get it really on the road.

I will report back when I make some 60mph, and up pulls.. (gota break in the rings when I get the throttle cable... That should be fun!)

I will be cutting holes in my fender wells and doing that later, but I just wanted to see how it worked with this currently.

Steve... Alright, let me think of some of the problems we ran into.

I got the engine rebuilt, then I couldnt get the mount on with those spacers.. so we ditched them.

I spent a ton of time on the radiator shroud.. I mean a ton... lol.

We ran strong lines down the middle of the car. Getting some of the 90 degree angles was hard, but we did it.

We had a pretty good oil leak, and figured it was a wrong front pan seal.

The Q jet was not working good.. Very hard to start, didnt run right.
The Holley (dad purchased for 20 bucks....) once we fixed the fuel leaks, and rebuilt it, starts up great and seems to run fine, just not jetted right.

The trani mounts was hard to tfigure out..

Shift linkage was a bear

I broke my throttle cable, new one should be here very soon (checks door.. nope)

Oh that exhaust just didnt fit.. had to heat it up and move it down at the muffler. And the exhaust manifolds are not for these heads.. lol.. so it sticks out and only has one bolt holding the back right exahust port on... Eh, We have headers... (i'll get some new corvette mufflers... should sound great!)

The throw out bearing was hard to figure out... Finally figured out that it used a stock one.. (ya.. after I order a new one... Oh well..)

Thats about all I can think of.... I know theres more....

Either smack down the cash and get some Corbeau IPB Image or buy some NEX seats like dad has in his car for 250 a pair... shipped. (ebay!!!!)

Tell me about your seats! Are they like old style? or new style? (like the new racing seats vs. the old ugly IMHO seats)

What happens to the front trunk when it rains? Is there a way to keep water from pooling up in bad places?

Posted by: retrotech Jan 22 2005, 09:02 PM

Mine.
Most people seem content to dump air under the car. I think if you are going modifying for performance, through the hood is the best.
You get down force, lessoning lift on the hood, as the air is sucked to low pressure area.
Obviously not done, but close.

Sorry but I can't. My Kodak digi camera is out for repair, and I am leaving for the LA swap meet in a week.
I assume you are wondering if there is any ducting to vents. There is none. I have ducting to oil cooler from bumper. Since the hood seals the front area at the tank, there is no place to go but out louvers to low pressure. When I realized that JP had success with a couple of 2-3" holes to vent air at back of bulhead I was encouraged. My louver/vents are about 30% greater area than the oil intake area.
It my first test drive I had a small oil leak at the top plug on oil cooler. The louver on the left side had the oil spatters on it, showing it was sucked out through the louver. There was no excess lifting of the hood etc. It works.

Can you tell me which bumper/spoiler that is on your car?

Thanks,

Posted by: retrotech Jan 22 2005, 11:03 PM

The F & R bumper, hood & trunk are Getty. Excellent quality, pretty good fit, but still took enormous amount of fitting& modifying. Mostly because the front spoiler is from Performance, which is a wider cooler opening by about 3" on each side, than the bumper.
They were modified, and matted together. The rear "deep" valance is also Getty, and glassed to the rear bumper, so F & R bumpers are one piece.

Maybe put some sand in your front trunk. Just a bit it in a weighted pan or something. If it goes away, it's getting sucked out, i.e. your hood works.
Or, for more visible results, throw some chickens in there. If, while you're driving, you can't see for all the feathers.... IPB Image

Hey retrotech,

Where did you get the louvers on the blue 914? It looks like you added them onto the Getty hood.

Posted by: retrotech Apr 6 2005, 04:54 PM

Yea they were added to the Getty hood. I have considered making a mokd to reproduce them. The few times my 14 has been pictured, there was very little interest, in the funtion & look of the hood.
I have the most outrageous duck tail you have ever seen. One off from 25 year old race car.

Hey Andyrew... The latest pic - cool shot! I love the flares! Were the rears stretched in place or added on? GT flares are classic, but I gotta say, the natural bulge is my favorite.

Posted by: Andyrew May 10 2005, 02:33 PM

Flares where hammer and dollied from stock fenders on the car.

Now thats a tail! Whats that opening for? radiator? intercooler? You said that the oil cooler is up front....

Looks, Big! Need some flares for that puppy!!

Posted by: retrotech May 10 2005, 02:57 PM

I guess the guy that built it was trying to lesson drag? I don't know. No flares. I want to have a Retro-Techno low drag, narrow body. Too many flared 14's, I want to do something one of a kind. Still have a few tricks coming.
It is big, thats why it will work. Those little flips on the deck lids have little ability to create real down force. This one weighs 31#, too heavy, but I like the unusual look. I will probably try a wing also. It has to be functional, and the wing will be less drag, no wieght.

Posted by: Andyrew May 10 2005, 03:23 PM

If you just made it out of f/g you could eliminate all the weight...

The 16" fake 'fukes' are about 23mm offset, since my real fukes from my 86 944 are 23mm and they fit about the same. The 17" rims are probably in the 55mm range thus the need for much spacing.

Dan

Posted by: neo914-6 Jun 18 2005, 08:46 PM

I like grey, the problem with black is it's usually darker than the color of the tire unless you have a polished rim/ring.

Did you get the headers on? What tips and muffler are you running?

Posted by: Andyrew Jun 18 2005, 11:39 PM

I dont have the headers in yet, Next week those go in boldblue.gif (or at least I order the mufflers...)

Hehehe.. I think you'll like my muffler setup..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7980851654&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEFGWA%3AIT&rd=1

This is what brand Im thinking of going with but basically, a high quality "ricer" muffler with a silencer.
Silencer for the street, open for fun... Open will be freekin loud. lol

If silenced its still to loud/raspy I will put in a 12" resonator muffler on each...

http://www.seffects.com/parts/VIB1794.htm

Yup it will be a high dollar exhaust system... but should provide just what I want.. Different, powerful, and loud when open.

Andrew

Posted by: neo914-6 Jun 19 2005, 12:25 AM

I'm will use something like the Vibrant for my Neo914 "venturi" tunnel design...

I was interested in these and the seller was 30 min from Marks place in Napahttp://www.craigslist.org/nby/pts/79557761.html
I decided not to when he said he had to dig them out of the garage and the "may" be magnaflows... confused24.gif

Posted by: Andyrew Jun 19 2005, 12:38 AM

I currently have magnaflows on it, Im just going to keep these magnaflows, and throw the headers on instead of the shorty... I want more flow and more noise.

I'll buy a set of those "ricer muffler" silencers and throw on a pair of 4in tips to enclose them in.... Should be easy removal, and quiet sound for the street.
