Well, the metal work is going to be done by me and a very generous friend. He said if I will get all the bad metal out, he will weld in the new stuff for me. I have the back firewall, engine shelf and inner fender well. Still need the piece going down to the hell hole. He said he might try to fabricate it. Afterwards, there is some discussion about going to Scotty for paint.
I took off today so I can unload the trailer full of boxes and tubs that hold the rest of the car. The motor has been refreshed and is attached to the tranny awaiting installation. Was more of a project than I wanted but the price was right and Christine is really no longer safe to drive.
Time will tell, hopefully it will end up a nice driver.

Here is a pic of the pieces I have and the one I need. I have A,B and C, I either need to buy or fabricate piece D.

It is still in the works at his convenience. I send him monthly payments and he can do whatever he likes. He knows I'm not in a hurry. I will probably be sending him payments til you sign my death certificate.

It is a complete car Bob, it is just stripped down and in tubs and boxes. Has a fresh motor ready to install. She is complete, just disassembled. Will take a lot of work but should be worth it in the long run.

Work starts Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. I will try to get pics of progress when I take breaks. Bought a spot weld remover kit today. Hope it makes the job a little easier. Pointers on how to proceed are welcome and greatly appreciated. This is a new adventure for me.

Posted by: hot_shoe914 Mar 22 2012, 09:36 PM
I appreciate the offer but I have a new one from RD laying in the back of my truck.
I might still be interested if you are in no hurry to sell as I'm pretty sure I will need it for my silver car that Scotty has. I'm just a little broke right now. Maybe you need something I have I can trade you for.

They are the stock factory 2.0 L Fuchs. Probably the most popular wheel amongst the 4 cyl crowd so I would say they are very desireable but not really that rare.

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Apr 8 2012, 09:09 AM
With all the welding, make sure you check for squareness before you start putting stuff back on the car. You may need to bend it a touch to get door gaps right again.
Before you put the firewall in, take measurements and see if the tub warped at all. if it did its a LOT easier to fix now then it will be to fix when everything is back on.
Learn from my mistakes... ;-)

I sure hope it hasn't warped but I will check it. Where should I do the measuring at?

You guys are really kicking ass Shoe!
I agree with Zach...you need to make sure that body stays true. I left my doors on so I could constantly check & adjust the door gaps. I am sure that someone has good measurements to use as well and will chime in.
Keep it going!

Came from Restoration Design. Very snug fit. Hardest thing we did was getting that sucker into place for welding. Took a little
but once it was there it fit nicely and was fairly easy to
. Still needs some minor touch up and sealing.

First flare is only mocked up, not welded on and finished. If you look at Mepsteins thread, I think I have pics of his on the underside. If not, basically there is not enough metal to complete the bent channel all the wayto the end.
I'm not sure how the factory GT cars were finished out on the underside, but I try to gradually blend that factory channel out into the flat section of the aftermarket flare. If I remember, I'll take a pic of Marks car tomorrow

Sorry Sean, not adding anymore 914s to the stable. I'm down to 4, really 3 once I get Christine all dismantled and parted out. Only other one I plan to have restored is my LE. Hopefully I can get Betsy sold and that will leave me with just 2, the LE and this one that Scotty is making beautiful. I think 2 teeners is enough, I am kicking the habit.

There is something magical about a 914 at this stage. Reduced to it's basics, yet bursting with potential. Kind of like the first buds of Spring....anticipation in the air.
Here's a tease of Marathon Blue just to whet the appetite. You're going to love the color, even though the lilac would have been really cool. Re: your calling it the Ice Queen, I wanted to get plates that said ICE 914 but the DMV wouldn't allow it. The color is a lot like glacier ice.

Man that scotty can shoot some paint can't he? I heard somewhere that the original paint used for Marathon Blue and silver had fading/quality issues, so I always thought Marathon Blue was pretty light based on the few cars I saw. Pretty much seemed silver to me. This looks so much brighter and bluer. Have to say I voted purple, but good call shoe. That's the right color.
Take care getting it home!

I saw the painted car at dr evils trans clinic. Almost made me change my mind about painting my car red. Beautiful.

Elsa is the Ice Queen on the hit movie Frozen. Might be a new name - Betsy got kinda old.
I vote for Elsa!
This will be a super cool car, Shoe.

Before seeing this pic, I was convinced I wouldn't be returning my car to it's original Marathon Blue Metallic. But holy smokes that looks great! How come they never look this good when I google Marathon Blue Metalic 914's.
LOOKS GREAT!!!

No. It's collecting dust. He's been too busy working on Miatas

I keep pulling up this thread hoping to see great pics of the ice queen put back together and on the road. This is my car's original color so I'm living vicariously through your posts for now, until I reach the paint and body phase.

I know life can take an unplanned turn.... or two, but I really would like to see that car assembled too.

I have to start working on it now, it is in the build off challenge. Probably take a while just to get the dust off of it.
