914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Today was better than yesterday

I met Matt Romanowski in the morning. Thanks for stopping by Matt. beerchug.gif

Also signed some autographs for a few cub scouts - made me feel like a celebrity. cool_shades.gif

My race was mid-afternoon. The threat of rain didn't materialize until more than an hour after my race. I felt sorry for the fast Formula Atlantic and Sports 2000 drivers, who had to return to their paddock and switch to rain tires, then had their race shortened to less than 15 laps when time ran out.

Conditions were pretty much perfect for my race. The car felt the best it ever has and I ran several laps in the 1:01's (best was 1:01.4), chasing the leaders. Traffic was a bitch, and I finished third overall behind a E Prod TR3A and a Baby Grand SPU car. My average speed for 25 laps on the 1.5 mile track was 87mph.

I almost forgot. Tom Gilmore stopped by my paddock too. I met him at the ECR. He has the nicely painted Sheridan bodied teener. Good to see you Tom.

Great Work Chris!!!!

It was really fun to watch you duke it out from the left hander. We were hanging out no top of the motorhome. We could see you start reeling the baby grand in, then he must have used traffic to get away. Fantastic running though. You looked really good out there.

Congratulations Chris, That was a very clean and well driven race. You are going to be very tough to keep up with next year.

(Not only was Chris the 2001 & 2002 NARRC FP champion but he provided the critical parts for the 2003 & 2004 FP NARRC champion #08 914-4 driven by Scott Rosnick.)

We hope to have more Chris parts and get to try to keep up with him next year.

Congratulations & Thanks again.

Next year he'll have a new engine too... and a new engine builder as well!

Chris, great to see you still going stronger and stronger!

Thanks Matt.
Traffic was definitely the big factor in me losing touch with the leaders several times.
I had trouble timing my passes right and ended up being slowed at the apex where I needed the speed most. I even got cut off while lapping the inexperienced 240Z driver who allowed the 1st and 2nd place cars through before he turned in to the apex of the uphill turn, even though I was only one car length behind the 2nd car. mad.gif
The same driver nearly killed me Friday in qualifying when he decided to pit from the left edge of the front straight. He made sudden right turn at greatly reduced speed right in front of me and the 510 I was following. A real heart stopper for sure!

Thanks Ed,
(A minor correction - I was 2000 and 2001 regional champ, not 2002. I missed that by only a few points (long story). ) biggrin.gif

Chris, great to see you still going stronger and stronger!

Finishing this year on a high note is much better than last year. I can start planning now to go even faster. Hopefully I'll be sending a set of heads out very soon, and a crankcase only a few weeks after that.
It's almost time for us to start talking about the details. smile.gif
I'm even thinking about a race down south in early spring.
