I found this while looking at some VW stuff. He appears to have a '72 1.7L 914 and is parting it out. He is even selling the chassis.

He also has some 916 style front and rear bumbers.

did you check out the other paiges on that site? There is a pic of Jake Raby building a T1 engine blindfolded.
And it ran...Damn, he's good...
