914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 911 Coil on Plug Set-up

Posted by: Britain Smith Oct 9 2004, 12:10 AM

I found this on the bird board, this guys has a 911 motor with custom valve covers to accept a coil on plug set-up. Brad and I thought about this for my motor, but figure that the Electromotive set-up would be good. What do you think guys...adapable to a type-4 engine with the Kit Carlson FI?

I *thought* the last air cooled engines had COP.

The wet engine was the first for COP in 98.

I was going to do coil-on-plug on my 911, I decided against it because machining the valve cover was just another obstacle preventing me from getting the car on the track, so I went with coil packs.

It can be done if your timeframe allow why not try it? makes for a really tidy wiring harness , and no plug wires.

I think I found that the ignitor is built into the coil, so if the kit carlson controls coil dwell then you could be good to go.

Kit's system is wasted spark so it's gonna fire the coil twice in each 4 stoke cycle. That might be a problem at high RPMs

Man that motor looks expensive.
