914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Timing marks on fan

Posted by: r_towle May 27 2012, 08:56 AM

Is there a template, or measurement I could use to put timing marks on my fan itself?

I know about the one from pelican for the housing, but I would like one degree marks on the fan itself.

I am not certain I can accurately measure the diameter of the fan...hoping someone knows that number...I can do the math from there.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/914_timing/914_timing.pdf is made to mark the fan itself.

Why would the diameter be hard to measure?

Either you need a very large set of calipers or something else as neat.
There is a large protrusion on the back that gets in the way for a simple ruler or tape measure.

The fan diameter I measured is 227mm. Circumference would be 713.234 mm. One degree would equal 1.9812 mm

Measure the circumference. A flexible tape or even a paper tape from IKEA works nice.

And you can also check in the shop manual. They have the exact measurement for the timing marks there. Page 3-3 2/3
