914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Rhino lining

Posted by: bob91403 Oct 13 2004, 06:49 PM

I was considering having my rocker panels and valances sprayed with rhino lining. Kind of figured the texture would go well with the roof and the sail panel vinyl. And, at the same time, preserve the finish and prevent rust. Anybody done this?

i think it is a bad idea, it's heavy, and due to the texture, very hard to keep clean and consistant in color...it's great for the bed of a pickup truck (my truck has it)

I kind of figured black would hold up. They can do different thicknesses.

I want to use something like this in the foot wells of my car, as it will have no carpet, or mats....

agree.gif Sounds like a good use. Cut vibration and sound without much weight.

Have F/G bumpers on Suzi, but wanted more stock look with 'rubber' bumper pads. Used this, they came out fine, so did my rockers and valences.
The Good: Cyano base (super glue/POR15) so absolutely sticks and rustproofs if you do both sides. Covers fairly large imperfections.
The Bad: 10 feet away is OK, but when you get really close it doesn't look like original. UV fading, but armorall takes care of that. And REALLY, don't get it anywhere you don't want it, and don't ask me how I know.

cost????

and what did you do with that black spolier since you did the GT thing?????

Posted by: bob91403 Oct 13 2004, 08:29 PM

I like it Howard. A lot more durable than paint. Won't chip.

Posted by: Howard Oct 13 2004, 08:32 PM

Herculiner is the product I used. Like $90 for the one gallon kit. Plenty to do a 914. Comes with a coarse rollers (don't use anything else). http://www.herculiner.com/

Have both spoilers. Black one is still on car. PM me if you want one.

And I would buy the roll on kit again. Usually at Pep Boys or such. Cheaper than the spray on, I'm sure, and it's really easy to do.

Now that's funny. lol2.gif

I've seen the 75/76 bumpers done with this kind of lining. Unfortunately for the owner, it didn't come out as well as he'd like. icon8.gif

I'd really like to see Howard's car. From the pictures it looks like it came out very nice.

This stuff is pretty indestructible... so be sure. It's probably a one-way path.

i did my trunk with the stuff ( the pep boys stuff )but soon discovered it scraps up pretty easily, i was going to do my engine bay in it to but because of the scraping problem i did not. i wound up using a rubberized undercoating, because it deadins sound very well. but i want to remove it because it makes the engine bay even darker than black paint.

Yeah, I'm not sure the Herculiner is tough enough. That's why I thought the Rhino lining might fare better. They do use it for truckbeds.

Use "Line-X" instead of Rhino.

I have engine bays on all my cars shot with it, as well as my entire 1949 Willys Jeep, and even some farm implements.

It goes on under high temperature and high pressure and laughs at Rhino liner.... I have used both.

I did a friend of mine's car with 3M Rocker Schutz. We did the rear trunk and both fiberglass bumpers. Then painted Body color. Looks really good. If I can get him to actually post some pics and join the club I can show everyone what it looked like.

Lots of info about folks using bed liner for their tops on the Yahoo site. Most seem quite happy and feel they are getting a near original look. Take a look:

Thanks. 2003 VW 'mellow yellow'. It's as close as I could get to the faded yellow on my old 1600super.
