So I'm pumping gas into the 914 when an older (60ish) woman says, " I was just admiring your car". She proceeds to tell me that twenty years ago she and a girl friend hit a deer at 80 mph in Montana while delivering a "convertible" to Vancouver. I asked her if the car needed towed. She said no but there was a big dent in the hood. It amazed me that my car stirred up that woman's memories of her 914 adventure.
Just thought I would share.
80 mph she's fortunate to be alive. then again, these little cars are pretty tough.

Odd associatation. She didn't say her 'convertible' was a 914 did she?
What was that woman thinking?
"Sure wish I had a slanty nosed car back when I hit that deer at 80 MPH in Montana"
Or,
"My convertible looked squashed just like your car back when I hit a deer in Montana going 'bout 80 MPH..."

At first I thought the woman was confusing the 914 with another car. She then pointed at my car and said it was a Porsche 914 with the roof off. I knew then she knew her cars.
Last year I was getting gas at Naval Station, San Diego, when a woman came up to me and asked if that was a new 2004 model car. I said no, this car is 33 years old. I just finished restoring it. She couldn't believe it, but it sure made me feel good.
The 914 is timeless, the lines are classic, and they sure are fun to drive. I still look at mine and go, WOW, and it's mine.
