914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Australian Members. Who's here?

Posted by: sclarke7171 Jun 7 2012, 06:35 PM

As we in in the penal colony have such a remote location, I'm asking who is here?
Would be nice to get a list of members in Australia.
Would help to get resources and information.
I've met a few 914 owners here. Some damn nice toys out there

Me!
I'm in Perth currently building my Subaru powered 1970 yellow 914 that I shipped over from QLD last year.

I think there are 2 other 914's in WA.

Pleased to meet you.
I'm in Melb
I know the basic history of 1 of my 4 cars. It was a peryh car and came to Melb 4 years ago. I bought it at auction. Previous owner had a crack at painting it. So now it's yellow and grey and copper. Orig Colour was copper.

Other 2 cars are unknown. Bought them from Porschapart wreckers. A blue 75 and black 73. The black one I think is a old members car from here.

And the last one is a shell from Sydney. It's a 73 yellow. It's going to be the basis of my track /rally car.

I am still open to come out and do a transmission rebuild clinic in Oz if you guys can get one organized smile.gif

Posted by: sclarke7171 Jun 11 2012, 09:33 PM

Come over. I've got 3 carpets, 1 shed and a few bales of hay you can sleep on.
I'll even throw a shrimp on the barby.

I have been here for a while (that well known metric unit of time). Almost as old and crusty as JP. Located at Rodd Point, NSW. Just at the end of Iron Cove and the Bay Run.

Cheers,

Mine's more of a "don't you touch that car until you've finished the new bathroom!" kind of project...

I DID just get some steel flares, though...
And some 911 struts and hubs...
and some 16x7&8 fuchs...
and a 911 handbrake assembly...

Hmm... it's been a busy couple of months! happy11.gif

Posted by: nihil44 Jun 13 2012, 03:25 AM

I'm in Brisbane. I am also bound by covenant not to touch the 914 until the house has been 'done'.

I am now taking a lawyer's interpretation of the covenant and sneaking in some activity.

Rust free (except the hell hole) 74 1.8 converted to RHD. Needs 'refreshing"

I'm in geelong these days.
Driving the Yellow '72 you saw a while back.
Pulled out my green '72 on the weekend and am going to restart work on it.

Posted by: sclarke7171 Jun 14 2012, 03:48 PM

Sweet as. Time for a meet up so we can discuss female hand brakes. Lol
Edwin glad your driving yours around.
My project is full steam ahead. Only restriction is $$$. But 2056 is half done. Rust started. 5 lug upgrade parts I have, but it will wait for the 2nd car to happen. Can't have just 1 914, a man needs 2. One to have nice and one for playing with. wink.gif

I'll drag Andrew down from Melb. Timings the key as he is about to become a dad.

Awesome there are so many Aussie members. I spend a few weeks a year in Brisbane (My wife is from there) but my 914 is in the UK - If anyone knows of a RHD going for sale in Aus, please let me know - I'd love to have one available over there for when we emigrate in a few years!! wink.gif

Posted by: phillstek Jun 14 2012, 04:54 PM

I'm here most days having a look. Getting close to finishing mine, took it for a few laps around the block last week (not registered but could not resist) after hours and in an industrial estate smile.gif .

I'm taking it to Wakefield Park in a few weeks time for a shake down...can't wait it's been 13 years since I drove it properly biggrin.gif .

Wife has no idea how much I have in this project bootyshake.gif .

Hey guys, ive noticed a whole lot of RHD conversions down there. Is it part of a vehicle code that they must be like that? And is it a pain in the A$$ to do? confused24.gif

Posted by: phillstek Jun 15 2012, 12:08 AM

I imported my 914 from California in 1988 and converted it to RHD. It's a pretty straight forward conversion that involves modifiying the firewall, fueltank, pedals and dash. In those days the RTA didn't know what the car was and I didn't mention the conversion or the 2.7 motor and I got it through rego then without a problem. If you do an "official" conversion you will need an engineers report (expensive).

The road regulations have since been changed here in New South Wales allowing pre '89 vehicles to be registered LHD, all you need is a blue slip. If I were to import another one I'd leave it alone and drive it LHD.

Yeah my 4 cars are converted to RHD. All conversions done a different way.
Only keeping 2 of them, so one will be on the market in the next 12 months. Will prob be the 75 2.0 that was my 1st one. Will be in primer for those wanting to paint it any Colour.

Dale here in Melb ( nth east)
I have a 73 914/4 1.7.
A couple of rust spots but generally in pretty good nick.
Standard except paint colour ( later model Porsche 911 metallic purple ).
Other mods are limited to a set of Riviera's, a Blackman carpet kit and a stereo in an underdash pod.
It was imported in 2000 and i have had it for about 12 months.

Hi I'm North East of melb

I have a '71 which has a 2.7 conversion, gunmetal grey in colour.
I got the car from Adelaide about 3 yrs ago and have been fixing it up ever since, from the history I have, it was imported to NSW about 20yrs ago, where it was converted to RHD, then sold to someone in Adelaide where it was converted to a 6cyl, then sold and sat in a shed till I got it.

Hope to see you guys around

Cheers

Gavin

Hello there! Decided to finally get a "big toy" and guess what...it'll be a 914. Doing lots of research at the moment to narrow down what to get.
Wsh i had been around for the last Shannons auction in july. There was a nice looking 1972 2.0 rhd which went for 11500 Au$...guess i have to look around to see what comes up.
I'm living in leopold/geelong
Would love to catch up with 914 owners in the area for a chat...i'm 6.4 and the last time i sat in a 914/6 was in 1990 so hopefully i'll fit!
cheers marty

Have collected a few bits a DPD a/c unit from a 1974 914 and a right hand drive fibreglass dash.
Looking for mechanical parts side shift trans, 911 front suspension rack and column.
Not normally on here but off work ATM so have been doing some research.

Yoh, dragged the bbbb (big black bumpered beudy) 914 back from Kalifornica with half of the crap out of Pancake Porsche's shed so if someone needs some parts I might just have them.

I would also be up for a Dr Evil tranny clinic. So who's in.

If any Australian members would like the get in on the SS bumper deal, but know you would get killed on shipping, let me know by PM and I'll see what I can do.

Cheers

Do any of you blokes have a 1.7, W or EA series motor sitting around that you wouldn't mind parting with. I have 2.0 on webers that I need to move on, because I wont get away with that in group Sb historic.

Cheers,

Howie.
