914World.com _ 914World Garage _ OIL TEMP GAUGE

Posted by: CTNL74914 Jun 16 2012, 11:04 PM

Finishing up on restore of interior of my '74 - 2.0 with stock D-jet.
Factory center console (w/3 gauges) is back in place and hooked up.
Question is; when the key is turned on, the needle on the oil temp gauge comes to life (flickers) but after that never travels past the low end white mark, even after a hard drive.
Is this normal?
What do you guys recomend for a numbered replacement gauge? Any from VDO?

Thanks in advance.

Many people don't like VDO gauges but I've had one in my car for 8 years and it works great. McMark had a post not long ago about a good gauge he recommended. A search might find it. I have found that the biggest problem I have had with VDO gauges are the wiring and connectors. Not always the best quality and should be checked out often.

Is your thermostat hooked up? Mine isnt and it takes me sometimes 30 minutes or more to see normal oil temps.
