914World.com _ 914World Garage _ The ultimate sacrifice for MUSR

Posted by: onrails Oct 18 2004, 02:22 PM

Whilst scoping out tour roads with vsg914, and 73bajared, I came into an off camber corner too hot. and lost it big time. I'm afraid the tub is bent beyond repair. Drivers front wheel, and passengers rear were on opposite sides of the ditch. The other two were in mid air. The engine was still running. You could walk under the car. Both front tires were blown. Passenger side tie rod is bent in a U shape. No pics of the car actually in the ditch, just after the fact. Wrecker driver said he fished a highway patrolman out of the same spot one week earlier. The large chunk of 8' thick concrete on the right. was moved 4" by the impact.

Do we have a crash smilie?

Several pics to come

That is traginc news, the good thing is you are ok, You can rebuild and make a better one and another one after that, If you would have been hurt, that would not be the case. Sorry to hear of your loss. I will bow my head in a moment of silence.

Brian is ok, but he took quite a ride.

We've alreay found a guy that says he can make it straight again for $300.00. I'll pay the cash, just to watch him

If he can pull it straight for that - do it. Glad he came out of it ok - after all, that is the best part.

did you lift on the throttle? someone learned that lesson on our fun run

Posted by: Jenny Oct 18 2004, 03:58 PM

<_< Everyone learns not to lift throttle on a fun run. See avatar on left. <_<

Posted by: Jeroen Oct 18 2004, 04:01 PM

Man... that sucks mad.gif
If you found someone who can straighten it for $300, I'd give it a try for sure

Posted by: onrails Oct 18 2004, 05:41 PM

of course i have to try,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
if it doesn't work,,,,,,,well,,,,,,,,,,,,,
we've got enough cars & parts at our shop to build me a new one.
thank you all for your kind words.

slowed down before the curve (not enough)
came in too hot,,but still powered into it,,,,
front end suddenly did not turn,,,,,(wheels turned,,,,,,,going straight)
let off the throttle,,,,,,,& quiclky back on to gain grip,
to no avail,,,,,so i pumped the brakes a-bit,,,,,& started turning ,,
(screetch ,,,,turn,,,,,screetch,,,,turn)
too late,, both feet in!
well,,,,i tried confused24.gif
hell of a ride though! i was sore for a day or two
but like all of you have said,,,"better the car than me"

we have the technology to build it again! safer,,faster & better looking
monster garage time! i won't be w/out a 914 for long!
BRIAN
