I had a member ask about making these. Aparently they break. I'm looking at doing up a batch of these if there is some level of interest. My guess is $25-$35. really depends on how many are needed. I don't see this being a high volume part, but if there is enough demand pricing can improve.
let me know if you want one.

I'm in for one.
Absolutely !
Let me also add that if you have the factory unit, like above, yours *will* break over time.
The reproduction units offered by others don't look anything like these, they have a square-bent handle and a straight stick.
Sigh... that looks nothing like the dipstick that came with my -6. Yet another PO improvement, I guess.
If I've got the cash, I'll buy one. Just been spending a lot on the car, and now have to plan for replacing the halfshafts... (Money for WAS top is set aside.)
Hi I will take one
I am in for sure.
Thanks!
I'm in for one. If I don't, my OEM one is sure to break

Where do I send the money? Need one yesterday.
I'm in. Like the console, take my money before something else comes along!!
+1 more....
I'm in for 2
Mark,
I'm going to want one sir.
brant
I will take one
I'll take 2
I could use a spare. never know when its going to be needed.
One for me
Well,
There is enough interest to do these. So, I'm proceeding. I'll have the costs and time line on these figured out in the next few days.
I'm interested. Are they improved in some way (stainless, don't break in half, etc.)?
Thanks Mark.
Add me to the list. Mine just broke.
I'm a little curious. At the risk of sounding like one, how the hell do you break a dipstick?
I'm in. Mine appears to have been brazed together at some point.
BTW, someone once told me a story of pulling an oil tank only to find three dipsticks inside. I guess the PO couldn't find the little hole to put it in.
I hate it when that happens........
Two please
Sould have pricing and time frame solidified on Friday.

Mine is broken. I'll take one please.
Hi Mark
May as well add me to the list
Please just throw it in the pile of other parts that I think are lurking about.
Thanks
Paul
I'm in for 1. Thnx.
I'll take one please.
Pieper
I'll take one, please.
One please
Thx
What's the status on those 914-6 dipstick manufacturing. I need one.
I'll take 2 por favor
Marty
These are still in the works. The method of manufacture is more complicated than just cutting strips and forming these. I've had to source material that was not off the shelf and do some additional fabrication to just get the blanks. These will also have to be heat treated. If I'm going to make these, I'm going to do them right. It is however taking more time to go through the process than planned.
I'm making these as close to OEM as possible, as they are for a 6 I think it will be more apealing to be as close to OEM as possible. I hopefully have located a material that the alloy will hold up a little better.
Two years ago ... I was never notified that the two I wanted were ready for shipment.
Funny,
I have them cut, just haven't formed them. Dooh. I located the proper alloy spring steel with the correct thickness. Even got as far as notching the ends.
I'll get back on these. I literally lost track of everything I was doing at one time. I now have a production journal to keep all the balls in the air.

Didn't have a 6 when this thread was started. +1
Will take one
I'm sure the count will change so I'm not expecting anyone that was on the original thread to still be committed, but I'm sure there will be a few.
Thanks all
I will take one Mark! The on I have been using is short as it was from a 911.
Thanks
Spent a little time playing around to get these laid out look like these will work out nicely.
I do need to know where the marks are for the Min and full. I picture of the mark would be nice.
Thanks,
Mark

Does this mean I can replace my wooden dip stick in the near future?
Picture in a -6 owners manual should help show min max too.
I'm in for 3..
I'm in for one.
take one maybe too, missed the Price?
Regard Michael
These look like they will be about $32. heat treating is a little more than I thought it would be.
I'm in for 2
I take 4.
I am building a GT clone so I need one and one in spare.
My freind also needs 2 pcs for his 2 original 914/6 GT race cars.
So total 4 pcs.

Looking good Mark. I'm still in for 1
I have these formed up, we ar putting the clips on them now. The mark is measuerd off the top (as the clip stops the dipstick) , so we needed to do it 1st. Should be in finishing in about a week. I'll post some pictures later in the week.
Still in for one, maybe two depending on timeframe and change in the couch.
Looks like about 10-14 days depending on how things work out on the schedule
Don't know how I missed this thread.
+1, please.
Any word on the dip sticks? No pressure just askin
Actually,
Just finished the clips to bind these and got them all done. Now the loops are fixed I can start marking off the level marks. Then hardening and plating.
I thought this wold be much easier.

And yes I know the clip needs to open up. We couldn't do that until it was bound.

+1 Mark
Tks
John
Added it all up and looks like I can do these at $29. a few bucks cheaper than I thought. PMs going out.
Thanks all
I got my dipstick a few days ago in the mail. It looks great. I got around to installing tonight and it seems to have problem. I cannot get it to insert into the tube correct so that the filler cap can be screwed on. the first pic shows the dipstick that I am currently using on the left (911 version not long enough) and the new one from Mark on the right. You can see that the new one doesn't have the same clearance on the "stop" as the other one so it is preventing it from engaging the tube that it goes down. The next two pics show the new dipstick and how it will not slip all the way into the tube and allow the filler cap to screw on..it appears to be too long overall. My current stick does slide all the way into the tube allowing for the filler cap to spin on. I hope this makes sense. I am using a Factory tank and filler neck. Let me know if you are finding the same issue with yours.

I'll add pictures when I get them off the camera later, but I just went and checked the dipstick I received the other week on the 914-6 and it fits fine. When inserted, I can put the oil filler neck cap on with no problem.
Now it's possible this factory -6 has been modified in this area - I have no idea where the current dipstick is from, and the car's certainly been "messed with" elsewhere - but for what it's worth...
I bought two and they both fit stock tanks just fine.
The 914/6 is about 1 1/2" longer than the 911.
Can I still get in on this for one dipstick ?? PM sent
Okay, photos. I didn't think to take a ruler with me, but these two are pretty close in size. Again, no idea what/where the old one came from.
Here's what the old one looks like inserted.
Here's what the new one looks like inserted.
And yes, the cap goes on just fine with the new dipstick in place.
I don't know whether it would make a difference or not, but ....
On the NOS oil tank, using a 911 filler neck, I had to modify the hole in the baffle screen to get the dipstick tube to go down into the tank (actually bent the dipstick tube to get it to pass thru the screen hole ...
and
I turn the finger loop down (vertical) on installation of the dipstick. Image looks like finger loop is horizontal.
