note that most of these wheels use special and expensive bolts.
note that most of these wheels range from $200 to $500 for a set with bolts.
note that some of these wheels are for racing only, ie: mini lites, panasport, keizer, etc etc

Nicely compiled Jim. Here are two other 4 lug wheels. I don't know what brand/model these are .....
Matt's 914:
Hisashi's 914:
I think the wheels on car #2 are Ronal Kleeblatt rims.
There's an old thread that had a lot of good pictures of 4-bolt 4x130 rims. Maybe you can add some of those pictures to your compiled one ...

#19 are American Racing. Libre (Libra?) wheels.
Another for the 'steel wheel' category. Brazilian chromies.
American Racing on my car in 1981.
Western Wheel and Shelby also made them.
#2 are definitely Ronal--I can post PN, etc. if there's any interest.
My car has American RAcing "LeMans" wheels on it--I'll try an find a picture later.
And these ATS German wheels
lotus65 has these - he offered them back to me but won't follow-thru

For sale if anyone is interested
sport steel
the upside to these - while heavy - are that they are 15" x 5.5" with correct 4.5" offset - and - they use easy to find and cheap - short bolts.

Very useful post for someone trying to glean information. It'd be great to add ball park $$ values and availability to this (ie still manufactured, links, etc)... I know things change over time... but this could be useful as a one-stop sort of post...

15x7 ATS w/205 tires
These were my favorite wheels on the front of my 914. I really wanted to run these, but never could find a rear wheel that would fit w/o flares because of the offsets. I have no idea who made them. Some kind of Jackman clone for VWs.
I know, not narrow body, but these are Diamond Racing Wheels.
They are made to order for about $125 each.
Very strong and fairly light.
For a narrow body car order a 15x7 with a 4.75 backspace.
FYI: the set-up for my car is 13x10 rears with a 4.75" backspace and 13x8 fronts with a 4" backspace.

I did not see American racing alloys on previous posts. I looked twice!
Here is write up on Ebay:
Never removed since being installed as a dealer option on this car, is a set of probably the most desirable aftermarket vintage wheel in the market, the american racing wheel. An original dealer installed option as installed by American Racing, the four spoke look is a classic. Everyone these days is returning their 914 to the original vintage look and these wheels are recognized as one of the best options of the time.

Authentic EMPIs
They are a two piece wheel "sealed" with a large diameter o-ring, NLA. Have been running with tubes. There is an EMPI logo in the web that the valve stem "points" to. The center cap attaches with the old school "mag" style tabs.
I bought these new from Auto Haus in Buena Park, CA, in 1971 for my, then new VW Superbeetle. Cost: $35.00/each.
Sold the SB and installed them on my first 914, an L20E '72, then on my current car, am L31M '76.
Here is another shot of the American Racing allow "le Mans" wheel. They came w or w/o polished spokes. Mine are painted gold on the inside face. They take mag seat lugs (hard to find).

These were on mine when I got it...Don't have any idea what they are.

I am currently running JW 3-piece wheels a bit wider than Rivaria or Pedrinis ( at least I think they are called "JW")
nice basket-weave, sweet wheels, I bought from K Trekor a few years ago. (smile wavey)

English made Revolution..
the steelies with plain nipple caps on the orange car in post #40 look so right!! the wheels (similar to rivs) pictured in post#50 look to be formula vees. if so they have the correct, prob no rub with wider tires, backspacing.
Sorry duplicate post of above...
lenny, go check out the cip1.com web site. look for wheels with 4.5ish inch backspacing on a 5.5 inch wheel that strikes your fancy.
I've been offered some of these wheels. Does anyone know more about them??

Were did you find this picture of my car? LOL. It realy is i checked the tags on it.
Seemed to remember them being called 'Epsilon' wheels.
Who knows?

That sounds right for the wheels pictured. My Grakus's looked just like them & with a name like Graku, they might have been an Eastern European Copy
What markings/stamps are on the factory 914 5.5 steelies that distinguish them from others??
Size Code
Manufacturer and Date Code
Instead of 10 and 70, what would the other wheels tend to have? I guess what I am saying is What do they mean??
Many thanks
51/2 J x 15 = wheel width, offset and diameter
10 = month (October)
70 = year (1970)
"Doh!"
Where is the offset marked??
I believe 'J' is the offset/backspacing designator. I'll measure the back-spacing when I get back to the shop. If anyone else knows the info off the top of their head, chime in.
4 5/8"?
...As a newbie, I hate to bust in on a classic wheel thread, but I've been doing a lot of wheel shopping lately, and I found these on Ebay. I think they might be the unidentified wheels in pic #19.
They are "Cal Master" and appear to be VW type wheels 4x130's. I wondered if anyone has heard of these. The only caveat is that two are 15x5 and two are 15x7...don't know how this would affect the handling. Based on the backspacing, it looks like these might actually work on a narrow body??? (yes, that is a statement/question). Maybe with a spacer? Dunno.
I get razzed about my steel wheels but I like them and they are the actual original wheels that came with my car. I like to say it's a "sleeper" 2.0.
Although if I had it to do over again I would have painted instead of powder coated.

Thanks for that link Bill. Didn't know about the bead style, nor the hump style
