Details and photos coming Saturday. This car will be going up for sale most likely. Stay tuned.
Shoe
Now!
Just one more Shoe!
Seriously, sounds like an awesome find.
Those southin' boys sure like to tease.
I just got goosebumps.
I'm going to be the voice of reason. IT's going to be rusted & about to break in half . That is more likely than the amazing Barn find. I've had plenty of chances at one owner cars. Or supposedly one owner cars for sale. I have yet to be happy when I saw them
Now that I have my voice of reason out of the way. Good luck
Today is the day! I go this afternoon to check out this car and see what is lurking under the dust. Hopefully it will be a true gem of a find but we shall see. Pictures and details coming today.
Are you helping the sellers set the pricing?
Best of luck to you. I've found that discovering a 914, even if totally crappy, is still a pretty fun field trip.
Good luck Shoe!
Today I am going to look at a car that had an engine fire and has been garaged since '83
Most of them were left in the garage for a reason.
It was real.....real purdy too! One owner, clean and if I can raise the money, soon to be mine. Anybody want to buy a 100% rust free shell that only needs paint? I need some cash fast!
You went to buy a car but you don't have any money?
Here are a few photos of the car. Not as many nor as detailed as I wanted but didn't have time to roll it out of the garage and do it right. Maybe later this week I can get more.

Looks great! What's going on on top of the passenger front wheelwell in the trunk?
It looks to be in pretty nice condition ...
Why and when was it repainted? I'm always suspicious of "low mileage" cars that have been repainted.
A few more.
That is all for now. I will get more later.
How Much ?? looks pretty nice ,,,
I Also have a Few Bumps and Bruises..for my age
looks like it has a TEXAS inspection sticker
No wonder it's so Purdy
I really like that car!
My first 914 was a '73 2.0 in Alaska Blue Metallic.
Great find, Shoe!
triple check ALL of those VIN numbers before biting. all that bondo on the wheel well stamp is frightening. They didn't even TRY to hide it was there. If it's all legit, it can be fixed. Looks like a damn nice car otherwise
Looks pretty darn good!Nice find.
Also note that the glob 'o bondo doesn't extend very far outsied of the numbers stamping. If it took a fender bender to the point it "needed" mud in the trunk it should be a lot further out than that.
I will also say that the position of the front strut support does indicates a collision that wasn't realigned
" PORSCHE " lens will bring some $$$$

Looks like a heck of a barn-find to me !
I'd buy it if I didn't already have my '73 2.0L 44-Webers
If there's no sacrificial rust-rot in the back-ends of the longs, this car won't be for sale long - watch...
While I love that color, I'd advise you not to pay for it as 38k car.
That carpet on the driver's side is worn more like 138k, or possibly 238k of semi-careful use.
Also - assuming it did sit 20 years in the garage - then why would someone in the late 1980's-early90's need to convert from the stock EFI when the parts were still readily available, and on a relatively low mile 38k car??
Likewise, why would a 38k mile car at something less than 20 years old need a full respray in the same original color prior to being put up in that garage?
... probably more time in the sun & miles on the clock than shown.
I think you should price/buy it as a nice project, if the damage Scotty & others have pointed out isn't too bad.
Good Luck!
Tom

Shots of the rear trunk.
This car is not perfect but it is a really nice solid car and documented 38K miles. Still belongs to the man who bought it new and has been well cared for. Owner is a 30 year PCA member who appears to be a straight up guy. Has everything for the car except the original injection. Has original steering wheel, lenses, tool kit and everything else. Has stainless steel heat exchangers and a 4 tip Monza type exhaust. I will know in a couple of days or so if I am going to be the new owner or not. If I do get it I will just get it running and drive it like I do all my others. She will not receive special treatment anytime soon.
Good Luck!
You may like it, and the price may be OK, but I'd run like hell!
Issues issues, issues
I like the car but like others have expressed, I have my doubts about 38K miles. I guess it depends upon the type of documentation you have which addresses the mileage. That had to be a pretty good hit to damage the inner fender well. Did you pop the rocker cover off to see if the damage extended into the longs?
Personally, I think it is a good car in spite of the damage and that would not scare me off. I know there is a NOS inner fender on eBay right now for around $400 and I would grab that and replace the damaged one. The 38K would not make the car any more attractive than it already is whether it is 38K or 138K or 238K.
Good luck to you and the seller.
We are waiting on that decision...some more than others
Decision time......answer in a couple of hours, but first I am taking Christine for a ride.
You know you've made your decision...you're just teasing us!
Check the roof alignment with the roll bar, and lift the rubber sealing strip between the front trunk and the gas tank next to the impact area to see if some "hammer work" was coivered up.
It is official, Betsy now belongs to me!
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew you would get it. Now we need pictures of her out of the garage!
how much $$$ ball park figure
Hi, Donald! Sitting at the Memphis airport.
Betsy looks like a great find!
Congratulations! Now make her a purdy teener!
Congrats on your "new" teener Shoe!
The steering wheel in the first photo on page one looks like a MOMO Andretti model with the removable foam center pad. I have one in my car and I think it is a great steering wheel.
Have fun with your new 914!
Congrats on the find..... maybe you'll "find" mine one day..... I guess Ken's friend is a no show too....
I guess the autox is in Memphis?? The one here is Sat. too...
Tomorrow is the big day. After the AX tomorrow, I go get Betsy and bring her to her new home. Hopefully I will be able to have her running and in 2 or 3 weeks.
Betsy is home, will post pics in a little while.
More pics of Betsy.
More pics
A couple more.
Looks great! You know my number if you change your mind.
Is that rust on the driver's door sill?
Wowie Zowie! Bring it to MUSR? It looks great!
Nicest one yet, Don. Way to go! I see she has a spot off the street and under the shelter
How's Christine taking it?
No MUSR?
Where is the clutch pedal?
Why does it look like the brake pedal is on top of the throttle pedal?
--DD
So...you get it running?
Nice Shoe! Wash the mud offa those tires!
You just had to get one that looks just like mine
Started the fixing process today. Took the gas cap off and she is about 3/4 full and smells like a tub of varnish. I took the carbs off and am ordering rebuild kits for them. What was strange though is the fact that the 2 outer studs on the intakes were replaced with bolts and the center still had the stud and nut. I will try and get the tank drained next and then remove it for cleaning. Looks like it is going to be a slow process but eventually I will get Betsy running again I hope.
I dropped the gas tank off yesterday to get it boiled out and cleaned. Now I am pondering getting it powder coated but most likely will just prime and paint it.
Carbs have also been removed and I have already aquired the rebuild kits for them. This will happen once I return from the Solo Nationals in Lincoln, Ne in 10 days. I still need to drain the brake system and get all frsh fluid. Car has stainless brake lines but I still need toreplace the ones going to the top of the master cylinder. Also need to buy new fuel lines. She won't be running as quickly as I'd like for her to be but Betsy is coming along nicely.
THIS CAR IS NOW FOR SALE!
Ad to follow in the classifieds as soon as I get it typed up.
A few shots from underneath.
She now is running. The carbs have been rebuilt, the brake fluid flushed and replaced with fresh. A new fuel pump has been installed. New plugs, fresh oil change with Brad Penn 20/50. Now to get the throttle cable fixed so I can take her for a road test.
Nice save !
If you want to sell the steering wheel separate let me know !
I have been working on Betsy a little at a time for a few weeks now. We have managed to get her running but still had throttle problems. Fixed the throttle problem by replacing the pedal cluster and also having a friend do a little welding. Thinking we were close to completion with this we tried to start her up only to find we were no longer getting gas.
Tonight we tackled that problem and after installing the 3rd, yes, I said 3rd, new fuel pump she was ready to run again. To our dismay we once again had no throttle. With a little work from my friend Ken(7275914911) we had throttle again. Reached in, turned the key and the magic began. Betsy came to life once again and seems to be running very smoothly. So after 20 years of hibernation in a garage, Betsy moved again for the first time under her own power. Only drove her around the block a couple of times but she really was smooth. Still need a clutch adjustment and a few other minor things done and then she will be ready to go once she gets new tires.
Excellent!
Great news!!
ing for deputydog
Yeah, Thanks Shoe!
