Why would the light flash if the voltmeter is at 13volts. every thing seems to be working and the battery is not losing juice. Where should I look?
r you sure its the alternator light, not the ebrake light?
No, I am not sure, but I will be by tonite.
Thanks for the help.
couldn't get much simplier.
I have had this 914 (1973 2.0l ) for 3 years and just got it on the road this weekend. I thought i had it on the road 2 weeks ago, but a back fire caused a small fire that scare the Obama out of me.
Thanks for the help.

The alternator lamp works like this.
12 volts from the fuse panel connects to the lamp. The field wire from the alternator/regulator provides a ground when the charging system fails or when the engine is off. This lights up the lamp. When the system is charging, the field wire becomes positive voltage. 2 positive connections to the lamp and the light goes out.
If it is flashing, either you have a loose connection or a bad charging system.
I would suspect the lamp is connected to the brake circuit or wired wrong.
